I picked a number I used to be in my 30's and that was also in the healthy category, but my surgeon chose one much higher still in the overweight category that was more achievable.

I don't use any of those things, but this is good information to know. Thanks for the heads-up!

There are TONS of good indoor exercise videos for free on YouTube. Just type in "Indoor exercises for seniors" or something similar. I did a 10-minute one on there last night for using dumbbells and toning my arms. I also belong to AARP and they have tons of 2-10 minute exercise videos for seniors, and depending on if you're on Medicare and have Silver Sneakers, Silver Sneakers has online free at-home fitness videos as well. I especially like Denise Austin.

Don't you remember the one-month stall? You're in a stall. It happens. Be patient with yourself.

There are some great exercise videos that you can do inside your house, check out YouTube and put in like "indoor walking videos" or "light exercise videos" or even "yoga." There's plenty you can do inside your house during isolation to keep moving. Also, stay hydrated, make a game out of it to keep hitting a certain mark of water every 20 minutes or so.

Recipe ideas: Pinterest or Skinnytaste Workout Ideas: YouTube has great short 10 minute low impact workouts that you can do after VSG. You can do anything, like walking in place, short walks, etc. immediately and I highly recommend walking immediately after surgery, but no weight lifting for 4 weeks, nothing more than 10 lbs I think. Foods: Without nutritional labels to see if it's sugar-free or not, that's a tough one. Obviously meats are high protein which is good. Cheeses have protein. Can't go wrong with meat and cheese. You already know about fresh veggies and fruits. No, I'm lost without my food labels. Sorry.

As others have said, probably best to call your surgeon's office just to see what they say and if they want to run a test or xray or CT on it.

Thanks for sharing. Many members here struggle with the protein shakes, so this will be a good new option for them.

Doing it all wrong.
GradyCat replied to oldandtired's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I'm going to fuss at you about 😀is the coke. Carbonated beverages aren't a good idea at this stage of the game, especially if you drank it with a straw. Remember . . . no straws. Have you tried premade protein shakes? I stomach them a LOT better than the powdered ones. I use GNC Lean Shake 25 g protein Swiss Chocolate. I swear by it. Don't worry about calorie counting at this point, but do try to get something down. Bone broth? Sugar-free popsicles? Jello? Something! Take care. -
Frustrated - Canceled Surgery: Advice?
GradyCat replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You gotta trust your gut. You won't have to start from scratch, just a new surgeon consultation and surgery approval date. You've already done all the rest. -
I'm old (57 this Sunday) and retired. LOL! 😀

I've regained the weight I lost
GradyCat replied to ElseeGee181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No, not at all. People think their stomach stretches, but it's not that easy for your pouch to stretch out according to my surgeon. I asked her after my 30 lb weight gain and had an endoscopy and she said my pouch was still good to go! -
I've regained the weight I lost
GradyCat replied to ElseeGee181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be ashamed. We're human. And that's what we're here for to listen and support and encourage each other. I did the exact same thing. I gained 30 lbs during COVID. Just got them off over the last 3 months. It IS possible to still lose after WLS and after a weight-gain. The tool still works, you just have to use it. Go back to the basics of tracking every single thing you eat and drink. Get your 60g protein, 64 oz water daily. It'll come back off. It won't be fast, but it'll be reliable. You can do it! -
I really like the seated elliptical at the gym!

Oh I'm so sorry you're going through this, Clare. Glad you've got it all straightened out and are on the road to recovery. That must have been pretty scary for you.

That is ONEderful! Way to go! Hoping to join you in Onederland in a couple of weeks. You'll hear me shouting for joy when it happens.

I bought a cauliflower crust frozen pizza a couple of weeks ago. Haven't tried it yet. I think it's called "CauliPOWER" or something funny. I haven't gotten into the whole cauliflower mashed potatoes, etc. yet. I need to give it a try.

Clothes shopping weirdness...can you relate?
GradyCat replied to pintsizedmallrat's topic in Rants & Raves
Yeah, I hear ya. I still buy clothes that are too big for me. I still think I need loose-fitting clothing to look acceptable. Plus it doesn't help that women's clothing sizes aren't uniform like men's clothing sizes are. I can wear a 12, 14, or 16, a M, L, or XL or even 2XL depending on the material, where it's made, who makes it, etc. It's ludicrous! -
I don't know, Lizzie, perhaps you can approach this without WLS. I'm not trying to talk you out of it by any means, but if sounds like you've got a good handle on what you need to do and are committed to doing it, so WLS might not be the tool you need at this time.

Hives always mean an allergic reaction to something. I got funky marks on my arms from the surgical tape, but that was it. Can you take an antihistamine?

Hey Long Termers - What are your macros now?
GradyCat replied to Ylime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hover around 1,000 calories a day with around 70 g protein and at least 64 oz water daily. I just started going to the gym again six weeks ago, so I get 90 minutes of cardio daily. I'm losing . . . .SLOWLY . . . -

Not losing anything??
GradyCat replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, the infamous Week 3 Stall can last several weeks, sorry to have to tell you that but it's true. Get that water in, sip, sip, sip all day long and keep running to the bathroom if you have to (more steps!/exercise!) but stay focused and try not to get discouraged and it'll all start moving again when your body is ready. I promise. -
Living with a new stomach?
GradyCat replied to HaseenS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're supposed to feel full really fast. That's the whole point of the new stomach - to keep you from eating as much. You're still new to this, so it's going to take a while longer for you to adjust both physically and mentally to the new you. It's okay. We've all been there. You've GOT THIS! Good luck on your WLS journey.
