Weight Watchers Personal Points Program
GradyCat replied to GradyCat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Here's an update. I started on Weight Watchers Personal Points (WW) on December 20th. I lost 5 pounds in the first 3 weeks, which was slow but acceptable and I understood that I wouldn't bet a huge initial loss because I had already just lost 25 pounds on another eating plan. Then for the last 2-3 weeks I've been in a stall. I had forgotten all about stalls. Turns out that between adding 90 minutes of cardio every day since Jan 1st and only eating my Daily WW Points (25 points, about 1000 calories) I wasn't eating enough. Once I started adding in the extra allowed Weekly points the scale started moving again. So at this point I'm still happy with the WW program and think it's do-able and going to work for me. Slow and steady wins the race. I'd like to lose 20 pounds but I'm not setting a goal date for that. I'll get there when I get there and reward myself along the way for my consistency in food tracking, water intake, and exercise. -
Weight Watchers Personal Points Program
GradyCat replied to GradyCat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Okay, so it's been two full weeks on the WW program and I've lost 3 pounds. I'm happy with that rate of loss and feel like it'll increase now that I'm transitioned fully from a no-carb diet to a more well-rounded diet as there would have been a period where I would have gained weight when reintroducing carbs. Overall it's easy to do, kinda fun to track and measure and explore. Plus you can't beat the variety of foods you're allowed to have. Anybody else doing WW? -
I had a NSV yesterday. I had set aside 5 pair of pants for "when I get down to that size again" and I've been working hard and have lost 25 pounds since October, so I thought I'd try them on. They fit! Now they go back on hangers into the closet rotation! Yay!

Looooong stall - Almost two months out
GradyCat replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, absolutely stalls can last anywhere from 1 week to a month or even longer. They're frustrating, but just keep doing the right things and this too shall pass. -
My surgeon and dietician didn't believe in counting calories, so they never gave me a limit. They said just eat small portions, focus on protein first and when you're full, stop eating. That being said, I normally see at your stage people here talking about 900.

I heard somebody say this the other day and it really resonated with me. She said, "Reward yourself for consistency." Too often we set unrealistic goals over which we have no control, like "I've got to lose 5 lbs by the end of the month and if I do, I'll buy myself a new sweater." But what if instead we rewarded our BEHAVIOR instead of relying on the results, which may or may not come by the scale. Say, for instance, we rewarded ourself for tracking our food every day for a month. Or we rewarded ourself for every 10 times we exercised. It can be small things like a mani/pedi or a new outfit or a foot massager or movie tickets or anything, but reward yourself for making the effort.

What I wish i knew before I had surgery
GradyCat replied to Shineaiggy29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess the only thing I wish I'd known is how careful I have to be not to slip back into old habits and gain weight. -
Give your body time to heal. It gets better every day. You just went through a major operation, so your body needs healing energy. Hang in there.

Sorry, I can't help you with this one, I don't drink alcohol. What about a nonalcoholic beer?

I am so sorry to hear about your grandma. I will be praying for her and your family. Don't worry about the weight right now. It's stress weight. You've got more important things to deal with at the moment. Take care.

Surpassed Original Goal….

Way to go! Your hard work paid off! Woot-Woot! -
That's interesting and good to know, especially since it's free.

In addition to everything that @anotherguy said, which was an EXCELLENT post by the way, I've learned that often I have to start eating MORE to break a stall. Like for example currently I am only taking in 1,000 calories/day and probably exercising off 500 of those and my body is like "What the hell?" so the scale doesn't budge until I add calories. Shake the body up. Make the body feel secure.

I couldn't stomach the powdered ones, so I do premade GNC Lean Shakes, 35 g protein, 170 calories, Swiss Chocolate flavor. There are also protein bars, protein chips, protein cookies, protein snacks . . . you name it, it's out there.

Have You Ever Noticed How Sometimes You Have to Eat MORE to Lose More?
GradyCat posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Am I crazy or has this happened to you to? Well, not that those things are mutually exclusive. LOL! 😀 I remember the first time I did Weight Watchers (WW) 20 years ago and I wasn't losing and it was because I wasn't using all my daily allowance of points. So the counselor told me to eat MORE, which I thought was crazy, but she was right and when I ate ALL of my daily points, I actually lost more weight. Here I am now post-WLS sleeve VSG and starting over again after gaining weight during COVID and giving WW another try and I'll be darned if it's not still true. I wasn't using my Weekly Points and I was stalled, but as soon as I started eating MORE, I started losing again. Why is that? I still don't understand it. I certainly wasn't starving myself at around 1,000 calories per day. Does anybody know why it works this way? Has this happened to you too? -
Happy Surgiversary!

Whatever's working for you at home for dinner, make it up as a lunch to take to work. -
Are you listening to yourself? "I've only lost between 39-41 pounds in 10 weeks." That's FANTASTIC!!!! Have you ever lost that much before in that short amount of time? Doubt it. The process is working. Stalls happen. Exercises affect muscle mass. You've got this. Don't worry . . it's all good. Keep up the good work!!!
