I know that smoking is a no-no post-WLS, but I don't know about vaping. Here's an article listing reasons why you're supposed to quit vaping after surgery. https://www.beautysmoothie.com/why-do-you-need-to-stop-vaping-after-surgery/

Your hunger will come back. I eat every 3 hours, but of course very little. I'm 7 weeks post-op and it started getting tedious to "eat" during the liquid stage, but once you get to soft foods stage it opens up a little and you'll want some texture and to try new things and it's all just the process of your stomach still healing. It gets back to normal, but without excessive hunger that causes you to overeat.

Sure, food just isn't the same after surgery as it was before surgery and some foods that we used to like we now can't tolerate. It's normal. I'm not liking food very much and even though I'm 7 weeks post-op and can have food I'm still sticking more to liquids because they're more tolerable for me and food just sounds gross.

CPAP & Aerophagia - Why was I never warned of this!
GradyCat replied to Wendums's topic in Rants & Raves
This is good information for me to have as I too use a CPAP and seem to have a lot of air in my belly at times. I am due to see the Pulmonologist in early March and I will ask them then about adjusting the machine. Thanks. -
So I cheated on my pre-op diet
GradyCat replied to thelostmermaid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your pre-op diet a liquid-only diet? Mine was just 1500 /day calorie-restricted diet so I could eat real food in the two weeks pre-op. After the surgery, your whole life changes in terms of eating because you can eat so very little at a time. I eat a small tiny bit about every 3 hours. -
Oh yes, the dreaded mind games. We lose a good amount but we're disappointed that it wasn't a different amount. I can relate to that. I just have to keep reminding myself that it's a marathon, not a sprint, and good things are coming to me in their due time.

Bariatric tracking app for windows
GradyCat replied to CaribeRidge's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I use MyFitnessPal.com to track my exercise, water, and food intake. I don't know if it has reminders though. -
I must admit that I haven't been drinking any plain water. I drink plenty of liquids each day, but not water. I have Gatorade Zero, diet peach tea, decaf regular tea unsweetened, and protein shakes. I bought some Crystal Light for water, but I haven't even drank that.

Congrats on your decision to have the surgery and good luck as you progress from liquids to soft foods to regular foods and exercise. It really does work!
-
It gets better each day, it really does, you just have to trust the process and keep the faith that you made the right decision. I'm six weeks post-op and I got lucky and had zero pain or problems and am liking the protein drinks, but every single person responds differently. It all works out within the first three weeks and then you feel sort of normal when you start on soft foods, then transition to regular foods. It's a marathon, not a spring. It's going to take time. You've got this, you can do it! 😃 I like the premade protein shakes better than the powder ones, so I buy GNC Lean Shakes in chocolate that have 25 g of protein per shake. There's also clear protein shakes by Premiere Protein that you can get at Sam's Club. I also drank a lot of different liquids to keep things interesting including Gatorade Zero, diet peach tea, regular diet brewed black tea, sugar-free popsicles, and sugar-free pudding during the Liquids stage.

I've sort of heard of that before, that you re-set your system by eating some "bad" food so that your body realizes that when you eat good food to lose weight and it's worked for me a time or two in the past, but now post-WLS I wouldn't consider it. I just had the Week 4 post-op stall and knew to just let it run its course and the scale would start moving again and it is. I'm going to stick as closely to the post-WLS diet program as humanly possible.

I haven't even tried plain water yet, six weeks post-op. I'm doing Gatorade Zero (no sugar), unsweet teas, and flavored mix-ins. I figured as long as it's liquid it's keeping me hydrated.

Still deciding which surgery uk
GradyCat replied to Sausageandbeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not in the UK, but I too struggled with choosing between bypass and sleeve. I thought I wanted bypass because I didn't feel it was as "permanent" as cutting out half your stomach with the sleeve. It's reversible in a sense. But when I met with my psychiatrist and primary doctor, they both suggested sleeve for me instead because they felt that bypass was too "radical" and complicated and a much bigger deal surgery-wise. That's how I ended up changing my mind and choosing sleeve. I'm six weeks post-op and very happy with my choice. -
Heartburn 2 months post op?
GradyCat replied to dreamingofasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I used to take Omeprazole for GERD but when I had to stop taking it for two weeks for the H Pylori test, I wasn't having any, so I quit taking it. So I quit taking it for two months before surgery and thought I was "cured." Then after the sleeve I started getting heartburn and acid reflux, especially when I lay down. But I don't want to start the medicine again so I'm just putting up with it hoping it's temporary and will go away on its own soon. -
I'm six weeks post-op sleeve and I started walking immediately around the house and around stores, but started back to the gym at 2 weeks. My doctor said no weight-lifting or resistance strength-training machines for 6 weeks, so I just did treadmill and stationery bike for a month, but then started using machines again at lower weights until I felt like my incisions and stomach were okay with it. Now I'm back to full weights and cardio and everything.

Yes, I keep repeating that in my, "The surgery was only a tool, the rest is up to me." So far so good for me at six weeks post-op. I'm keeping myself in line/in-check because I'm terrified of taking that first bite of a cookie or eating too much thinking it'll be the slippery slope into going back into bad habits. I guess fear works! 😃

It finally happened. Onederland!
GradyCat replied to Matt Z's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's AWESOME! Congrats! 🏆 I can't wait to get to Onederland! -
Advanced skin corrector creams! What are you using to help out your skin?
GradyCat replied to LaNueva_Janie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At just six weeks post-op I hadn't thought about it yet, but I guess I should. Thanks for the recommendation. -
Any Other Sleevers who did NOT have to do liquid diet before?
GradyCat replied to fun_freckles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My required pre-op diet was calorie restricted to 1500 calories/day but not restricted to just liquids. The purpose is to shrink the liver to allow for easier laparoscopic access. -
I just had some chicken nuggets yesterday, 6 weeks post-op, and then went down okay.
-
I started January out in the dreaded Week 4 and 5 stall period, so I'm hoping for maybe an 8 pound weight loss in January.

How did you choose a goal weight?
GradyCat replied to PopsFury's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I remembered how good I looked at 140 pounds, which is toward the top of my weight range on the charts, but it sounded reasonable to me. A lot more attainable than 120 pounds and I'd probably think I'd look too thin at 120 because I've never been that weight. -
6 days post-op and hungry??????
GradyCat replied to KMac2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some hunger is only natural. I get "hungry" about every 3 hours but I can only eat 2 oz at a time, so it's really not much. Don't worry, your stomach size is fine, it's just a transition period from having nothing to having liquids to thinking about food because you can't have it. Now that I'm six weeks post-op and having regular food, I'm still eating very, very small portions and losing weight, so it's all good even if I am eating frequently. -
I'm still newly post-op and have only lost 19 pounds, but as I anticipate losing more weight and family asking "Have you lost weight?" I'm just going to try to shrug it off as long as I can. Why do other people think it's okay to comment on someone else's weight anyway?

Follow up psych eval
GradyCat replied to lifeasfaith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe it was because I already regularly see a psychiatrist for Depression and she signed a clearance form for me.
