So far when I've eaten something that I can't tolerate (steak, bread/tortilla), I throw up "the foamies." It's not food that I throw up, it's like a foamy mucus and my stomach rolls and feels like everything's rolling up toward my mouth.

Weight Loss Pills and surgery
GradyCat replied to johnsons13's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wondered that myself, but OTC weight-loss pills never worked for me because they're appetite suppressants and I don't eat out of hunger, I was a stress-eater who never ate food and only ate cookies. So I'm counting on surgery as a tool and then lifelong better eating habits to solve my problems. -
1100 calories in a day!!!
GradyCat replied to NorthCountryGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As long as it doesn't become a habit. I'm 8 weeks post-op and eating around 800 calories/day. I track everything I eat in MyFitnessPal.com -
Yep, no fun is it? But it too shall pass and the weight will start to drop again. Hang in there.

10 weeks out how many calories should I be consuming
GradyCat replied to jenngraham9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds okay to me. I'm getting in between 600 and 800 now at 8 weeks post-op. -
You're allowed these in the soft stage? The only two things I can tell you about my experience is that my doctor told me to get my protein in first and usually by then I don't have any room for anything else, so the carbs would never make it in as I'd fill up with 2 oz of protein first and that when I did try to eat a soft taco with a soft tortilla I threw up what we call here "the foamies" because the soft doughy bread doesn't work for me yet. My doctor told me to stay away from bread for at least 3 months.

That's good to know. I'm close to your weight now and am flying for the first time post-op two weeks from today. It'll totally be a Non-Scale Victory for me as well. Congrats!

Friends and family just can't understand and sometimes they're judgmental. That's why these forums are so helpful to interact with people who are going through the same things you're going through and can relate.

I take GNC soft chews.

I like MyFitnessPal.com. It tracks calories, protein, water, and exercise.

Isn't it amazing how little we can eat after WLS? That means the surgery worked! I think our hormones get whacked out after a major surgery like we've had so it's not really surprising that you might be depressed. I'm sure it'll pass with time. Take care.

Drank juice and now can't stop throwing up
GradyCat replied to duhniece's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Be sure to drink lots of water to flush out the acidity from the juice, but it probably wouldn't hurt to call your doctor's office just to check with them. A phone call should work without having to see them. Sorry this happened to you. -
I just went through it 7 1/2 weeks ago and everything's okay. No infections, no leaks, no constipation, no pain, no anything. You'll be fine. Take care and good luck tomorrow.

There was a list of medications that you had to stop taking before surgery, but none of my medications were on that list. Post-op, when I got home from the hospital on Day #3 I was able to swallow my pills and capsules just fine.

Oh wow, what a workaround. Thanks for the idea.

Eating after surgery (Reflux)
GradyCat replied to Bypass2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I get "the foamies" too if I eat meat, so I'm just avoiding it. I had really bad reflux right after the surgery, especially when I'd lay down, but now at just about 8 weeks post-op it has gone away. Yay! My guess is you need to slow down eating and make sure you're not drinking anything with your meals. -
When I was on soft foods/pureed foods I mostly had protein shakes, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, sugar-free pudding, sugar-free popsicles and such. I didn't try anything with texture. I haven't tried peanut butter yet, I thought it might be too hard on my stomach. Was it okay?

Thanks for sharing your story

It gets better. Try to stay calm. Are you still in the hospital? You'll feel like a new person by the time you're discharged.

Blood Pressure Medicine And CPAP Use After Surgery
GradyCat replied to Trellunit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve done 12/11/18 and will be having another sleep study done in 3-6 months as I will likely no longer need the CPAP at that point. My follow-up with pulmonologist is in March and then we'll schedule sleep study. My blood pressure is already improved so I probably won't need medicine for it much longer either. -
I like the GNC Lean Shake premade shakes and they come in all kinds of flavors including banana, vanilla, strawberry and more. They have 25 g protein each.

2 weeks post op and stalled at 12 pounds?
GradyCat replied to KMac2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, it's completely normal. I stalled during Weeks 4 and 5 as my body healed and adjusted from liquids to soft foods to regular foods. It's temporary and you'll start losing again shortly. No worries. -
What is the best time?- May be TMI
GradyCat replied to Jazzy1125's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
There's an old joke about not taking a laxative and a sleeping pill on the same night! 🙂That being said, I'd probably take it at night to let it do its thing and be ready to go in the morning. I guess I'm lucky that I've had no issues and am able to go on my own each day after 12/11/18 sleeve. -
Looking for Protein Shake for Sensitive Stomach
GradyCat replied to Wanda247's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use GNC Lean Shake which is no diary, no lactose, no gluten. I drink the chocolate ones. They're very good and have 25 g of protein per 14 oz shake. I use the premade shakes. -
Pushing the next stage from liquid to purée
GradyCat replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stayed on liquids the full 3 weeks and didn't want to push it because the surgery was a big deal and I didn't want to mess it up so quickly post-op. It's only another week, you can do it!
