I have GERD and I was able to get sleeved 12/11/18. Now the GERD is gone! Yay!

What did your work out routine look like post op?
GradyCat replied to Kay2016's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was at the gym two weeks post-op doing cardio (stationary recumbent bike and treadmill) but couldn't do any weight lifting or resistance machines until 6 weeks post-op. My post-op gym routine is the same as my pre-op gym routine now 45 minutes/day 4-5 days/week -
Unexpected Post Op Observations
GradyCat replied to lala75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, we call these NSV's - Non-Scale Victories. Mine include necklaces fitting around my neck that didn't fit before, my watch isn't cutting off my circulation, and I can see my toes! -
Yes, that makes sense because your body senses that you're doing something different and it wants to wait and see what's going on before responding. Keep up the good work!
-
Wonderful! Way to go! I'll eventually get into the lifting but right now am mostly doing cardio, a little resistance training, and some swimming.

Exercise and having a new body feels great, doesn't it? Way to go!

6 month diet program - Anthem
GradyCat replied to soccermom2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess that's why it's six months, to allow for fluctuations like yours and to show overall progress over a period of time. Good luck! -
SHOULD I TELL MY TRAINER ABOUT MY SURGERY?
GradyCat replied to OriginalGaPeach's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You probably don't need their recommended nutrition plan, but you might want to tell them about your surgery because there are weight restrictions for about 6 weeks post-op and you don't want to do anything too strenuous. -
I never pureed anything and was fine through liquid and soft-foods stages. I stuck with things like soup, cottage cheese, sugar-free pudding, sugar-free popsicles, scrambled eggs, and protein shakes. I remember seeing "baby food" on the list of acceptable foods during the soft foods stage but it stipulated to watch the sugar content and make sure it was mushy.
-
I weigh things on a food scale in terms of ounces.
-
Any suggestions or advice to get me through this stage is greatly appreciated.
GradyCat replied to Ms. Johnson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids for 3 weeks before transitioning to soft foods. -
When did you stop using shakes?
GradyCat replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't plan to stop using protein shakes. I'm 9 weeks post-op and still drinking at least one shake a day and eating protein chips. I've been drinking a protein shake for breakfast for at least 5 years and it's just so convenient that I don't plan on stopping now. I'll TRY and get all of my other protein at lunch and dinner meals, but a few extra in the form of protein snacks can't hurt. -
How many calories should I be consuming?
GradyCat replied to MeaganMB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For the first three weeks I was from 500-800 calories, now at 9 weeks post-op I am 800-900 calories/day -
I think it's a combination of things like the others have already mentioned. One is that you're on liquids and they don't feel the same way as solid food so you're not necessarily feeling full. The other is the "head hunger" that we all get that is more relative to our expectations of eating food than it really is to being hungry. It's just been a short while since your surgery, give it some more time and you'll see that you're not as hungry and you'll want to eat very little.
-
It's been less than a month for you, I think you need to give it some more time. Mine are starting to lighten now at just under 9 weeks post-op and I'm using something called Bio-Oil.
-
That's wonderful! Congrats!
-
Does your surgeon's office offer monthly lectures and/or lifetime support? Mine does. That will hopefully keep me on track. Have you tried eating again like you did pre-op, restricted to liquids only or calorie-restricted for a while to jumpstart things again? Are you depressed? Good luck!

hope I don't chicken out
GradyCat replied to gabrielle1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had the sleeve done 8 weeks ago and I'm 54 years old. It's never too late. And it's definitely a change of eating patterns and habits as you can only eat such a very small amount, about 2 oz at a time, but you eat about every 3 hours. I eat around 800 calories/day. Good luck with your decision. -
I had really bad acid reflux for about 3 weeks post-op sleeve (12/11/18) but it has resolved. I also had a stall Weeks 3 and 4 but it has resolved.

Surgery date before Insurance approval
GradyCat replied to Jennylo201's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you prepared to pay for the surgery if it doesn't get approved? I waited until everything was in place and approved before scheduling surgery. -
It's not like pasta is forbidden, it's just that there are better food choices with lower calories, more protein, and fewer carbs that we're supposed to concentrate on and learn how to eat healthier as a new lifestyle.
-
You could get something from take-out from a restaurant and puree it at home.
-
I didn't realize it at the time because the weather was cold here, but I apparently had the cold feelings too a couple of weeks post-op. They only lasted two weeks.
-
It becomes a habit after a while instead of a chore, so it'll get easier for you.

So exciting! So jealous! I was hoping to be there by March 1st but now it's looking more like mid-March, but by golly I'm going to get there!
