Questioning the surgery...
GradyCat replied to TxStar09's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You have to decide for yourself and do this for yourself. Do you really want to be healthier? Do you want to be more active? Do you want to stave off diseases that come with obesity? Stick to your decision. -
I just had my surgery on Thursday now do you crush your vitamins?
GradyCat replied to iyanam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take my vitamins in soft chew form. I get them at GNC. -
That's pretty normal, don't sweat it. Your body has just been through a major trauma. Give it time.

Weight loss stall 2 months post op
GradyCat replied to Colleen’s's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are normal, albeit frustrating. It really does start moving again. I'm just 3 months post-op and thinking things were going so slowly, but in reality any downward movement is good movement and the stalls only lasted a couple of weeks and now things are moving really well again. It'll happen. Trust the process. -
There's the infamous one-month stall that they don't tell you about that happens at Weeks 3, 4 or 5 because of the transition from surgery to liquids to soft foods to foods and your body stalls for a couple of weeks. It's perfectly normal. Stop looking at the scale. Have you tried taking body measurements instead?

I still drink protein shakes and I eat protein chips and protein cake bites. Most everything I eat is protein. They taught me to look at a plate and fill it 1/2 with protein, 1/4 with fruits/veggies, and 1/4 with grains/carbs. Then they said eat protein FIRST and nothing else until you eat all the protein. I am full by the time I eat my protein.

Can I drink diet soda on my pre op liquid diet
GradyCat replied to Jezzabelle360's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Nope, you're going to have to get used to water, iced tea, and other non-calorie liquids -
It"s only 2 weeks or so post-op, so you can do anything for 2 weeks knowing the overall goal and outcome. Hang in there.

Palmer's Firming Butter with Shea butter, Collagen, Elastin and Vitamin E + Q10
GradyCat replied to CaribeRidge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I might try that as I don't want my skin to get too out of control while I'm losing weight. I'm closing in on 50 pounds lost next week and want to lose 100 pounds, so I have to be wary of the loose skin and do everything I can to keep it toned. -
I took some Dayquil this past week as I've had a terrible cold and I'm 3 months post-op, but I never take Nyquil anyway because it has the opposite effect and wires me awake.

Anyone hitting a slump with gastric sleeve?
GradyCat replied to mmartinez213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That was a helpful article. Thanks. -
No reason to feel guilty. You've made a healthy decision and you're going to benefit from it. I just made it through a two week cruise eating very little with friends and explaining that I'm "on a diet and trying to lose weight" which was all it took to satisfy their curiosity.

That's just the worry talking. My insurance only asked for my current weight. Take a deep breath and everything's going to be okay.

Just got my date...for next week!
GradyCat replied to Sigi42's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For this issue it should be all about YOU. This is YOUR time to improve your health and your life and school can wait. You'll be okay, hang in there and good luck. -
Yes, you'll be able to do that in that time frame post-op
-
I didn't end up using one for anything.
-
Those are natural thoughts and concerns going into a major surgery like this. You can do it! Good luck.
-
Sorry about the complications, but it sounds like you're okay now. Wow, what a huge weight loss so quickly! Congrats and good luck on the rest of your weight loss journey. I'm in it for the long haul.

Abilify and slow weight loss?
GradyCat replied to thatch's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Antidepressants are notorious for weight gain and impairing the ability to lose weight. I used to take Abilify and Pristiq. They messed up my blood pressure, so now I'm on Prozac and Rexulti, which is a better fit for me, but they're still not weight neutral. In the end I'll just have to lose more weight to counteract the weight impact of the medications. -
You can do cardio, treadmill and bicycle now. You can't lift more than 10 pounds until your f/u appt. with your surgeon and then be careful with resistance machines and increasing weight too fast.
-
I can't finish anything, even the things that taste so-so, much less the things that taste fantastic. Thankful also for being able to stop myself from just shoveling things into my face.

Anyone tried the "Vampire Breast Lift" post op? (Sounds scary I know) LOL
GradyCat replied to danieocean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it, so I googled it. I don't think I'd be a candidate as I'm anemic. I am 65% sure I want a breast lift when I reach my goal weight. We'll see. -
I don't know what other approvals would be necessary unless your doctor's office is needing surgical clearances from your PCP or cardiologist or something.

Water exercise ideas for weight loss, arthritis and chronic pain?
GradyCat replied to polly...'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
I think you're making the best choice now with the water exercise. Give your yourself time and some more weight loss before venturing into anything else. And congratulations on your exercising!
