Like everybody else said, Miralax is your friend. I got lucky and didn't have any constipation.

I told people I had hiatal hernia repair, which of course they did during the VSG.

It's a good thing that your hunger sense is gone right now. This is your opportunity to lose the maximum amount of weight. It'll come back later, so take advantage of this time now.

After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
GradyCat replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No, you don't end up throwing up for life. Definitely for the first 36 hours post-surgery due to anesthesia. Possibly once or twice throwing up the "foamies" (mucus, bile, not food) if you eat something your stomach doesn't agree with. I eat meat all the time. No problem. But I still can't eat soft tortillas. That's okay with me. -
Theory: The Freezing Means It's Working
GradyCat replied to a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, come to think of it, I was getting cold recently and I NEVER get cold and I've been starting to lose again. You might have something there. -
Band to Sleeve 6 weeks Post OP
GradyCat replied to JJ's's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes I agree with @arabesque that you need to consult your surgeon's office as this shouldn't be this bad this far after surgery. -
Waiting for a surgery date
GradyCat replied to FarfelDiego's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It shouldn't take too long, but post-COVID they have to prioritize hospital beds for COVID and sick patients and not elective surgery, so that might be your only delay. -
How to tell if something doesn't agree with me?
GradyCat replied to spaceallthetime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still, 3 years post-op, have a signal when a food isn't right for me. I get "the foamies." That's when you throw up mucus but not food and you feel extremely full up in your esophagus right away. I still can't eat bread or soft tortillas. -
Stalls are plateaus but they don't make you gain weight. Over what period have time have you gained this weight? If it's over a month, that's concerning, if it's over a year it's just excess calories. I searched online about weight gain and birth control pills and read: Weight gain is a common birth control pill side effect. Certain oral contraceptives are more likely than others to increase the pounds. Fortunately, the weight gain is often due to temporary water retention and will go away in a few months. Water retention is a typical symptom of premenstrual syndrome that is caused by fluctuating hormone levels. You’ve probably noticed it before—about a week or two before your period starts you start to feel bloated and your clothes are a little too tight. Estrogen-containing birth control pills have the same effect. The most widely used type of birth control pill contains two types of synthetic female hormones—estrogen and progestin—that prevent your body from releasing an egg. It is the estrogen part of the pill that can cause you to retain water, which may make you feel like you’ve gained weight. Water retention usually passes after you’ve been taking the pill for a few months.

I've never heard of limb lengthening. I don't understand what it is. -
The drs office with Nutritionist and PA VS THERAPIST CONFLICTS
GradyCat replied to berryboo97's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The therapist has no business telling you what to eat, that's the domain of the nutritionist or PA. Listen to them. -
Good for you! Keep up the good work.

Over 2 mo po and stalled
GradyCat replied to DarkSoul's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unfortunately stalls are a reality. If your stall lasts more than 3 weeks, it's time to revisit your portion sizes, protein intake, and monitoring everything you put into your mouth. If you still are stalled after 5 weeks and you're doing everything to the letter, you should consult the nutritionist at your surgeon's office. -
Did you talk to a counselor before having the surgery to understand the severity, permanency, and restrictions for what you'd be doing? How long ago did you have the surgery? If it was just recent, maybe your hormones are still messing with you from the operation. If it is longer than that, why aren't you eating more than 4 oz? You can. No, you can't stretch your own stomach and no you can't have surgery to stretch it back out. I would highly suggest you talk to a therapist about your situation.

Work Accommodations
GradyCat replied to trouvaillex's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not likely to need any special accommodations. You'll recover so much more by next week. -
Anyone have panic attacks crying after sleeve?
GradyCat replied to JennyF's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgery releases hormones, which can do a number on you. It's not permanent. It's temporary. Hang in there. -
It depends on what your goals are. To improve your health overall or become a supermodel. 😀 I don't know what your current size is, but 60 pounds is a good way toward a healthier life, less weight on your joints, and so forth. Ultimately only you can decide what's worth it for you. It's not a magic bullet, it's just a tool, not a solution.

Initial weight vs current weight
GradyCat replied to simplysmile's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve Starting Weight: 260 Current Weight: 204 (gained 10, was down to 194) Date of Sleeve Surgery: 12/18/2018 Keep in mind that everybody's journey is different. -
Don't count calories at this point. Just focus on getting in the liquid and eating/drinking when you're hungry. Give your body time to adjust and heal and don't be stingy with calories. My doctor doesn't use calories as a factor at all, just says to eat protein first, veggies second, grains third until you're full.

abdominal cramping after surgery 1/31
GradyCat replied to Nikkiblue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It couldn't hurt to call your surgeon's office just to ask if this is normal or sounds like a problem. I get those feelings sometimes depending on what I eat especially if I eat too much protein at one time. -
I had comorbidities of Sleep Apnea, and GERD and got approved with a BMI of 37.
-
No that would be too much temptation for me to eat it all. I stay away from temptation. My husband is on a no-carb diet right now so he can't eat baked goods anyway.

You're barely 3 months post-op and while you may be recognize it, your body is still healing. Don't overdo it. It'll come with time. Do what you can.

I still can't eat wraps. They won't go down. Try more moist food in tiny smaller bites.
