A couple of weeks ago I got sick, probably a stomach virus, but I had been having gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea) on a different diet, that I'm going to post about later, so I decided to give Weight Watchers a try. I didn't realize that they have just revamped their program and released a new iteration of it in November 2021, so my timing was pretty good to start the new program. It's taken a couple of weeks for my body to adjust after reintroducing carbs again, but I'm starting to lose weight now. I did WW way back in 2006 or so and was successful, so I thought I'd try it again. PROS: well-balanced meals without restricting certain foods, easy-to-follow, easy tracking system for daily points, allows flexibility On this new version, Personal Points, you take an assessment online and it asks you if you're diabetic, what types of foods you typically like to eat, what your rate of activity, is and it calculates both your daily allotment of food "points" as well as generates your own personal list of "zero point" foods. So my list of zero points may not be the same as yours. On my list, I can count eggs, grilled chicken, corn, and of course non-starchy green vegetables as zero points. I like the bar code scanner that scans grocery store packages and converts it into points for you and also they've got just about every restaurant imaginable in their database with associated point values. Is anybody else here doing Weight Watchers? I'll keep you posted on my progress.

    Nutritional shorthand needed

    I found this on the internet, does it help? General recommendations suggest to eat 40-65% of your calories from carbs. If you apply this to the bariatric population that consumes about 1000 calories a day then the carbs would be about 100 g carb/day at the low end. Many bariatric centers suggest sticking to 75-100 g carbs per day in the maintenance phase.
  4. I haven't tried the patches, but one of my doctors, not my bariatric surgeon, but maybe my primary care doctor said she wasn't fond of them/they didn't work. I don't know. I take soft chews and they work just fine and I've had no absorption problems.

I remember feeling "full" pretty fast, and actually I still do, thank God, 3 years later the sleeve is still working for me.
  6. I was on a CPAP and had sleep apnea before my surgery (sleeve). It was no big deal. They just made me bring my CPAP with me for the overnight hospital stay to use while I slept.

    Exercise and what to do

    The standard recommendation by medical professionals for all adult humans is 150 minutes/week. That's how they come up with 30 minutes a day 5x/week or 10,000 steps a day on average. It's just a benchmark. You can do lots of things with resistance bands and non-impact exercises like yoga or stretching that shouldn't aggravate your pre-existing injuries. What about water fitness exercises in the pool at a local gym or the YMCA?

    Okay, first of all there are hormones that were released during your surgery, so you're probably a little emotional right now. Second, did you think you were going to eat double cheeseburgers for the rest of your life? That part of your life is over. That's why you made the decision to get healthy and have the surgery in the first place. Third, the nausea should be over by now. If it isn't call your doctor and check to see why you're still nauseous. Maybe they can give you some anti-nausea medicine. Is it only when you eat? Is it all the time? Finally, talk to the therapist at your surgeon's office or through your health insurance. The mental part of obesity and hunger is the hardest part to tackle. Let somebody help you through it.
  9. I drank premade GNC Lean Shake 25 g protein shakes (Swiss Chocolate). You'll have to sip, sip, sip all day long, morning, noon, and night.

    Post surgery weight gain

    Try not to look at the scale for at least a month. You just had a major operation. You were filled with fluids, air, you likely haven't had a bowel movement yet. It's going to be all over the place for a couple of weeks. Hide your scale.

    Gastric Bypass complete!

    It is amazing what we've gone through, isn't it? You'll likely be all good in a couple of days without need for pain meds and no more spitting up. Remember, they had a tube down your throat and you're healing from a major surgery/trauma. You'll be tired for the first week, so you'll sleep really well. Enjoy it. You'll also still be passing excess gas from them inflating your stomach for surgery, so that'll be a couple more days and that might be causing some of the pain.

    That is frustrating when the two are telling you two different things. I'd go with that the surgeon says over what the nutritionist says, but you might need some clarification first.

    Sometimes they require a sleep study like to check for sleep apnea.

    Stall or just a slow loser?

    I wouldn't look at the scale for a while. Your body is still healing from a major surgery. It's going to fluctuate with your liquids and divert energy to healing. Wait at least a month before you weigh in order to keep your sanity.

    Question

    My trainer told me I was eating too little at 1100 calories/day with working out two hours a day so I started increasing my calories and the scale is starting to move again. Seems wrong, but it isn't.

  18. I hadn't heard that before. My surgeon said to avoid things like sour cream and sauces that make more food go down more easily to avoid eating too much and getting in added sugars and calories from the sauces. I haven't had any trouble eating meat.

    Injections? I was never told to get injections. I was told to take a B12 supplement.

    Hello everyone

    I wouldn't recommend noodles yet. Be sure to get your protein in. Have you tried the premade protein shakes? They're better (more expensive though) than the powder. I like GNC Lean Protein 25g protein. My surgeon told me to eat protein first, then if I'm full, to stop. If not full, eat veggies, then grains. Mostly I only ever get the protein. I get 80+ g of protein daily.

    As far as I can tell, nothing ever prevented my prescription meds from being fully absorbed.

    New Here *2 years out of VSG*

    You will probably get better advice here on post-op diet, calories, macros, etc. than in your surgeon's office it sounds like. Go through the threads here and you'll find lots of info. Feel free to ask any questions and we're here to help, support and encourage you. You sound like you've done fine weight-wise. Don't know why you're still having constipation issues. I was lucky and never had those problems.

    Bang Keto Coffee

    I was doing Carnivore/Keto diet October through December last year. Lost some good weight. Used MCT Oil or Butter in my coffee to make it bulletproof or keto coffee. It was just a way to get more fat in my diet, which is useful in keto. The MCT oil sometimes gave me diarrhea.
