  3. And did they try to talk you out of it? My husband and I are both planning to be banded in Mexico- however he is doing it to help improve his health (diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol). At this point I dont have any other health issues other than being fat, my BMI is 39/40. So I am doing it to loose weight to prevent future health issues (about 100 lbs) and to help support him. My husband previous endocronologist suggested he should have WLS. His new and current doctor has not. My doctor has not mentioned it either (but like I said I have no other major health issues). We still think this is a good choice for us- but I have a drs. appointment next week and I need to tell her what I am planning to do and scared she will not approve of it (dont need it, too dangerous, that its in Mexico, etc). Anybody do this without the total approval of their regular doctors?
  4. Thanks for the replies. I guess I am a bit concerned about having something permanently inside me ... But it makes sense to keep it on to prevent gaining weight (which is why I am as heavy as I am now). It is going to be tough seeing him loose the weight quicker .... but he needs it more than I do.
  5. Hello, I am so glad to have found this site, as it has already proven to have some very useful information. My husband and I are both planning on having the surgery and we are hoping to do it at the same time so that we can support each other. I have a BMI 39/40 and he is 44/45. He also has diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. Due to the cost, and insurance non coverage, we are considering doing it in Mexico. How often do you do fills/unfills during the first year? How long do people usually keep the bands? Do most people remove the bands after reaching their desired weight? How difficult is it to remove the band?
