    Dr David N Dyer

This is from the VSG manual; it isn't just Dr. Dyer, fyi. There are three surgeons in this practice, and they go by the same manual.
  2. Yes, we do have the same instructions, and I agree it's too little to sustain for a long period, imo. Now that I'm working out quite a bit, I'm definitely increasing my caloric intake.
  3. I did a search on past topics but did not find what I am looking for, so I decided to start this post looking for fellow patients who have hypothyroidism. I had surgery 2 months ago, primarily to alleviate my T2 diabetic symptoms. So far, I'm off all my diabetic meds and am cautiously optimistic my symptoms will continually improve in that regard. My concern is I have not lost as much weight as I would have liked by this point. I know we are all different, and I did start at a lower BMI due to my T2 comorbidity. In 2 months, I have lost almost 24 lbs, which, believe me, I'm thrilled about. I'm continuing to lose at a rate of 1.5-2 lbs per week. For anyone else with hypothyroidism, did you find yourself losing weight quickly or slower than others? Losing weight has always been a struggle for me since the onset of my thyroid issue, and I do plan to address this with my surgeon at my next appointment (this Thursday).

    Type 2 deibetic

Reversing my T2 symptoms was the primary reason I decided to have VSG. I'm 2 months out, and I have been off my meds since the day of surgery. My sugars are running normal now, though I do watch my carb intake and workout 5 times a week.
  5. It really has been eye-opening (and, at times, frustrating) to see the variations in plans. I had a two-week liquid pre-op diet. After surgery, my plan was two weeks of clear liquids, followed by two weeks of full liquids. Then two weeks of blended/soft foods followed by introducing "new" foods until goal is met. Technically I am to start stage 3, blended/soft foods tomorrow. However, I have been experimenting with various soft foods in the last few days. I go back to work (I'm a teacher) Friday, and I wanted to make sure I knew what to expect eating actual food (and hopefully not get sick at school).

That sounds interesting. Have you met up with the group before?

My parents live in Gallatin (I lived there for a few years myself).

I'm from Nashville, as well. Had my surgery Dec. 5 at Centennial with Dr. Dyer. I'm originally from Alabama, though. Born and raised in Florence, AL.

    Birth Control Options

Another Mirena IUD user here, and I love it. I've had mine for 2 years, no periods (just a little spotting here and there). I keep kicking myself for not going that route sooner.

    Diabetes Improvement

My primary reason for having VSG was to alleviate my diabetes symptoms. I stopped taking my Metformin and Glimepiride a few days before surgery; my sugars were in the low 100s the last days of the liquid diet, a huge difference. After surgery, while in the hospital, my sugars were high and my dr. ordered insulin for the three days I was admitted. I chalk this up to my body going into shock. When discharged, my dr. instructed me to not take my diabetic meds unless I see continual high numbers. It's been 11 days since my surgery and my numbers are in the normal range, for the most part. It has been like a rollercoaster. For example, one night I went to bed at 110 and woke up at 192. But for the last three days, I have not had numbers higher than 132. I'm cautiously optimistic.

    40yr olds...

I'm 41 (will be 42 in a week); I was sleeved Wednesday, December 5th, so I'm four days post-op. Other than some pain on my right side (largest incisions), I'm doing ok although I am struggling to get in all my fluids.

    Protien and Broth!

Thanks! I'll give GNC a try.

    Protien and Broth!

I want to try those, but they are so expensive. Is there anywhere I can buy just one bottle to try? I'd hate to buy a case and not like them.
