Are There No Bandsters in Idaho?

I'm going to dr cahn. Any comments about him? He seems very competent and caring. Wants the best results for each patient. Seems very careful, too. Wanted to talk to my shrink before he would really discuss it with me. Hopefully all goes well.

    Help...

Oh, honey. I feel for you. I, too, have been in the crater. I finally decided enough was enough. I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I want to be here for my children and their children. :thumbup:Congratualtions, you have made the first steps of many and we will all be here for you, loving you just as you are. Encouraging you as you get healthy. Praying for you and sending {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} your way.
  4. I would definately go to her supervisor and advise them of what she is doing. There are privacy laws in place that she has broken. She should be at least reprimanded and be required to apologize. However, if you make a huge public stink it could make things worse. I would do all of this privately. And if someone asks about your surgery I would be open about it. I mean you have done alot to be proud of.

    which exercise program?

Has anyone done tai chi or forza after lap band? Pilates? yoga? What are some good exercise programs to start with? What about later? When can you start aerobic types? How soon after surgery can you start anything other than walking, which I plan to do tons of. Water aerobics? Spinning? Just wondering where to start after leading a sedentary life with fibro.

    personal question

I was wondering how long after the surgery you can have intercourse? Do you even feel like it? Usually it's 6 wks. Is it longer for the lap band?

    Let's Potty Talk!!

I haven't been banded yet but I had a question about the urinary incontinence thing, too. Does it go away or get better at all? I have had 3 (yes I said 3) bladder slings and they have not gotten rid of the problem completely. I often wonder if it is because of the weight.

    lap vs open

It sounds like this is pretty much an outpatient surgery. What happens if they have to do an open surgery? Do you have to stay in the hospital? I have a lot of scar tissue from previous surgeries and they may have to do an open so I was wondering. Anybody out there have to have an open surgery rather than having it done laprascopically? How was it? How big was the incision? Where was the incision? How was recovery? Sorry I'm asking so many questions, but I like to be prepared. I plan on discussing everything with my surgeon, but hearing from some one who has gone through it helps.

    meds?

I am on maintenance meds for bipolar, insomnia and migraines. Can you take pills or capsules after surgery? Do you have to break them or open them? What should I do about my meds? I don't want to start over after having just found some that work. Most of mine are capsules but my ambien and trazadone and pain meds for migraines are pills. The pain meds are pretty big. Will they get stuck? How do you know if something get stuck anyway?

    Hospital stay

I'm hoping for a stay, at least overnight. I live about 2 1/2 hours away from my surgeon and the thought of traveling that far right after surgery does not thrill me.
  12. Hello. My name is Christine. I am 31 and a mother of three and wife to a wonderful husband. I see the surgeon on the 6th to discuss the Lap Band.:sad:I hope he will take me as a patient. My surgeon is Dr. Cahn in Boise, Idaho. I am 5 ft 5 in and weigh 280.4. My BMI is 46.7. UGH!!! I have everything my insurance wants so hopefully it will go through. I am hoping and praying for the best. I eat healthy most of the time and don't generally eat too much but I still seem to gain. It is very frustrating, so I finally had enough and decided to do the surgery. Well, I'll see y'all later. Gotta go wrangle kids. Thank you for letting me join, I don't think I could do this on my own and finding support groups in my area is nigh on impossible. There is one that meets once a month and that is it. So if I can't make it one month there is no where else for me to go. I'm glad I found this site. With encouragement and support I know I can do this.:cool2:
  13. Has anyone out there had the band done while they had gastroparesus? I have it and am wondering. It's a mild case but there nonetheless. Does the band help, hurt, no effect?

    Esophageal Manometry

My surgeon said I might have to have this test done. I have gastroperisus. Is it just for the swallowing? I've never had any trouble with swallowing. Is it really terrible? It sounds like it.

    chronic constipation

I have always used Acidophilus (sp?). It is the bacteria in your gut that helps this and the acidophilus tends to keep these bacteria at the right levels. Flaxseed also helps. I try to keep to the naturopathic way and not take too many laxatives because your stomach can become dependent on them. There is a new one out that doesn't have that problem. My son is on it, it is called Miralax. Works great for him and the gastroenterologist doctor says that it is not habit forming so you can take it everyday if necessary.

    Catheter?

I usually have one during surgery but they put it in and take it out while you are sleeping. When they put you to sleep pretty much everything relaxes and it's better than wetting the floor all up. So you shouldn't notice it at all if they give you one.

    Newby with Fibromyalgia

Just starting my journey. See my surgeon for the first time on the 6th of May. I have fibro and I'm hoping that losing the weight will help. The weight only hurts, anyway. Maybe losing it will help ease it some. Here's hoping.

    Embarrassing Question

I have had 11 surgeries in my life, 10 on my abdomen. You are covered with a blue drape cloth except for the part they are working on. So nothing really shows.
  19. A good place for that info is the insurance biller at your doctor's office. I talked to mine and she said that alot of the time if you go to your doctor 1/m for 6m and just talk about diet and exercise that will do the trick.

    newbie and nervous

My mom was with me all through the research process and the decision process. I have to agree with the other posts, if you present her with all the facts and figures and be confident in you decision, not allowing any negativity, I think she will come around. If she doesn't then seeing is believing. Hope everything goes well for you.

    Newbie, Newbie, Newbie

Hi. I have BCBS of TX, too. My husband gets it through his work. I do not know what they are like. I don't see my surgeon until the 6th of May. Let me know what they say, and if I hear first then I'll let you know. Hoping everything goes good for both of us.

    new and saying hi

 Thanks. The support is really great. To shinyhappy you are doing awesome. Congrats so far. That is what I'm hoping for. My mom is going with me so she can talk to the surgeon, too. She just wants to make sure for me. She's great. Getting closer and the closer it gets the more nervous I get. Don't know why maybe because this is life altering. :confused2: My husband is glad I've gone lapband and not bypass. He was really worried about that. We talked quite a bit and he thought I would have to have a really special diet but I told him it was mostly smaller portions and super smart eating. I can't wait to start my journey. I have decided that I will succeed and anything contrary to that is simply not allowed. I get to be the guinea pig for my family. When it works great for me my older sister is going to get it and we are trying to talk my father into it, too. He could really use the help. He keeps saying that it is too late for him cause he's 54 but I say better late than never. He is not going to be around for long if something doesn't change. He is 6'2" and weighs over 350. I pray that he will do this everyday. Well, thanks for letting me ramble. I'll talk to y'all later.
