  1. Yes, it took Keeley a long time to finally learn to trust us completely. I'm sure the new little one will be the same.
  2. Okay, I have a funny Lasix story. I was in the hospital 10 years ago with Legionnella. They had given me lots of IV fluids and I was swollen and huge, so then they gave me Lasix. About that time, the decision was made to take me to ICU. They pushed me into the elevator and then went to ICU, but my bed wasn't ready so they just kind of had to leave me out in the hall. I had to pee and told the nurses. They told me to hold on till my room was ready. I told them that I REALLY needed to pee. They brought me a bed pan and I started to pee. and pee. and pee. Overflowing the bed pan, soaking the sheets, pouring onto the floor. I started laughing. I couldn't help it. It was just so absurd. And then I said, well, I told you I had to pee.
  3. Bella, I wonder if you're yawning because you aren't taking enough deep breaths? Are you using your spirometer from the hospital? Are you able to get it to the required range? I was a little hungry after a few days. Be careful with chewing . . . you don't want your tummy to start thinking it needs to be digesting something!
  4. thanks. I can't wait till Monday so we can bring her home.
  5. We haven't picked out a name yet. We're bringing her home Monday morning. I think I'll need to be with her a bit more to know what her name will be. She's so cute and sweet. I'm so excited.
  6. Marcy, you amaze me that you are able to do things like raise your own food. Sometimes I think that I would probably not survive if I didn't have all the conveniences in life. Wouldn't have made much of a pioneer. Interesting about the sisters with the sleeve. I'd be curious to see how they do over the long haul.
  7. Hey Deb. Don't let these things scare you. They're just bumps in the road. Ask the newbies in two weeks and I'm sure they'll tell you they're doing great and thrilled with their decision. I LOVE Ashland. Love love love it. You'll have so much fun. How great that you have a best friend for that long. That's an amazing accomplishment and you should both be proud.
  8. Shelbi!!! It's nice to hear from you! Now you just keep that goal in mind and do the best you can. You've already lost soooo much weight. How are the new meds? I can't stand heat, and heat with humidity is the worst. You have my sympathies. I almost went to grad school at Chapel Hill, but I really didn't think I could deal with the humidity. Aren't I a big wimp?
  9. Okay, folks! The picture is pretty bad (took it with my cell phone) but here is our new furry addition! She and Keeley did just fine (sniffed each other then ignored each other, but were lying on the grass together). She is the cutest little pumpkin. She looks like a Scottish Deerhound who was shrunk in the dryer.

    Dr. Kirshenbaum's Happy Bandsters~

Deb, that's really strange. Are you on a slow connection or something? Maybe?? Let's see - gbear did fine, and is home safe and sound. Lotza had a rough trip home but is doing better now. Has a little bit of puss from her port scar, so her PCP gave her an antibiotic cream. Bella had a tough time, and ended up in the ER the night after surgery with chest pain, but they determined that it was gas. She is home now as well and is doing better, I think. The "oldsters" are all doing well, I think. Adorkable posted some fun pics of her 6th month bandiversary, and she looks great. Shelbi and Brandy have not been posting much lately, but I think they're fine. You're getting close now!! One more month!!!
  11. That's what I did. Figured it couldn't hurt.

    ribcage pain

I get the exact same pain and get it when I'm slouching as well. I have no idea what it is, but it sure is annoying.
  13. That's really uncalled for. It's none of her freakin' business why you went to Colorado. And the doctors here (and in many other places) are ripping people off with what they charge. I'm glad you said something back. And I'm glad that your incision is okay. Are you still on the antibiotics?
  14. Lotza - OH NO!! Did you get in to your PCP? Let us know. Bella - I tried some tomato soup early on but it really upset my tummy. And, yes, dee is referring to the email forms about food. dee - so glad you had fun. Wow, what a bitchy thing for the ticket agent to say. Incredible. The pic you posted is just lovely. Well, we're taking keeley to meet the potential new furry friend tomorrow. I can't wait!
  15. Hi gbear. Yes, Dr. K. told me after surgery and even gave me a snapshot. Lotza- glad to hear that you were able to get down a shake.
  16. Bella, I'm very happy to see that you made it home and didn't vomit on the way home. I'm so sorry about your ER adventure. Yes, dee is the best. I had a hernia repair as well and I did have a bit of a sharp pain in my chest when I took a deep breath. It only lasted a few days, though. Other than that, the gas was the worst part. Sometimes my ribs were really sore from gas.
  17. Hey Munchkin! Yes, if we adopt this little girl I will most certainly be on the lookout for the previous owners. We think Keeley Anna was abused as well. She was very fearful when we adopted her and still can't handle hearing anyone shouting or anything. It took us awhile to gain her trust. I think someone who can abuse animals has something seriously wrong with them in a very bad way. Our state legislature recently passed a law making animal abuse a felony. I was very happy to hear it. Good luck to sister!!! Tell her that she has both the ICU patients and the losers bench cheering for her!! And yay on being down 5 lbs since your fill. You're doing so well.

    I hate C-PAPs!

I have severe sleep apnea and have been on CPAP for 5 years. It has had a tremendous impact on my life. Yes, it was hard to get used to , but I never realized how tired I was until I finally started to get a good night's sleep. I am so grateful that I didn't have a stroke prior to starting CPAP therapy. I shudder to think of what might have happened to me had I not forced myself to wear it every night until I became used to it. Sure, I'm hoping that losing weight will eventually help me to get rid of it, but I have no problem with the idea that I may need to use it the rest of my life. Sleep apnea is not something to be taken lightly. Lap Band is uncomfortable at first too, but apparently you feel that it is worth it. Trust me, CPAP is worth it too.
  19. Hey Bella! If you're out there, will you please let us know if you made it home okay????
  20. Glad you made it home safely, gbear. Don't know how competent I am, but the gas thing is pretty darned common. I still have gas. Burping, tooting, gee it's ladylike!!
  21. Very cool! They have dance music too. I sort of like to dance around my house for exercise . . . dorky, I know, but I enjoy it.
  22. Hi Sid. I'm sure I'll still be there because my flight home isn't until 6 so I'm not going to leave there to go back to the airport until 4 or something. It will be fun to meet you!! Sorry about your grading . . . that is one thing I surely do not miss during the summer. Grading gets soooooo laborious after awhile. Finals just about send me over the edge.
  23. Amieru, congrats on all your fun NSV stuff. How great to be able to enjoy the rides, go to the cave, etc. I had Lasik done about 9 years ago and I totally agree with you. To be able to wake up in the morning and see the clock without groping for my glasses . . . to be able to go to a swimming pool and actually see who is next to me in the water . . . Congratulations! You'll love it. And how fun to have a free trip to look forward to for your bandiversary! YAY!!!
  24. I'm glad you're starting to feel better. Who knew that gas could be so miserable? Really, let me know if you' need anything.
