Type II Diabetes Management after surgery
minidriver replied to molinomama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question for those of you who check your BGs regularly. I am new to this issue (diagnosed with pre-diabetes AFTER my lap band) and am planning to check regularly to make sure that things are moving in the right direction. My 2 hour BGs are rather high (160 after lunch today, 195 after dinner!). I am wondering if having the band delays the BG peak due to delayed digestion of our food. Has anyone else noticed anything like that? -

dee!!!! I need advice!!! I just took my 2hr pp BG and it was 195!! Do you think that having the band delays the peak BG? Do you think this would be the equivalent of what you would see one hour without the band? Hope that question made sense. I'm less than happy about these numbers I'm getting today. :bolt::frown::tt1: -

Well, I'm not a doctor (not THAT kind of doctor anyway!) but I can't imagine that it would be a problem. -

Well, it would have been exactly 2 hours but then I fumbled around for a good half hour trying to get blood from my fingers. I'll do better after dinner. I got the Freestyle Lite. It only uses a teeny bit and takes five seconds, so I think it will be good. And it's little enough to carry around in my purse. -

NO!! You're not being teachy or preachy at all! It's very helpful! Good tip about the fingertips. I couldn't believe it was that hard. I had chicken for lunch with the fruit. I was hoping it wouldn't have much impact. I'm going to test after every meal for awhile until I get a better idea of what I can and can't eat. -

Hi ladies. Well, we're going to wait until morning to head to the tree house as my talk ran late. Sorry you're having TOM stuff today, lotza. I would count yesterday's weight as well! Munchie-what is up with your check, etc? Why does everything pile up at once? As for your mom . . . .wow. That's all I can say. Unbelievable. I really hope your sister uninvites her to NC. dee-I just tested my BG for the first time. I got one of those meters that lets you test from your arm, etc. I tried to get blood from my fingers (3 different times!) and couldn't get any blood. I have little (no) circulation in my fingertips (terrible Raynaud's) and it just wouldn't come out, so I ended up using my forearm. Are those readings pretty accurate? Anyhoo, it was 160 after lunch. Not great, but not horrible. I'm just going to need to really watch everything I eat. I had a little bit of fruit with my lunch and that's probably not going to be okay. Damn. I love fruit. -

Well, back from the doctor. I guess he had planned to put me on metformin but he spoke with an endocrinologist yesterday who said that there was no need to put me on meds since I've had the band and am losing weight. I will be testing though so that I can adjust my food accordingly. I was actually kind of hoping that he'd give me Metformin as it would probably help my weight loss . . . oh well. I did lose .8 this week though . . . plus the 2 lbs I gained early in the week, so that's good. I have to go give a talk on adolescent brain development at a pediatric nursing conference, then we're heading to our treehouse for the weekend. So everybody send in your weights and I'll catch up again later. Dork -your photos rock! -

Okay, quick drive by between classes: (should I have spent this time actually prepping for my class? YES! Did I! NO, I got caught up on all the posts. Shame on me. Bad teacher. Bad bad bad). First, Munchi, OMG about the sitter situation. I can't beleive that. How incredibly unethical. Sounds like they're a match made in hell. Second, miss dee, quit taking the guys calls. That would drive me freakin' nuts. Third, B & J - I miss Cherry Garcia sooooo much. I want a pint of Cherry Garcia. I do I do I do. I ate several pints during my last supper sydrome. That may have been part of the reason that I gained SIX POUNDS in two weeks. Oopsie. -

Yep, time to get that chapter over with. You don't need that crap. And having a crappy ex-husband always gives you a benchmark with whom to compare future suitors. -

But I still want to see the $200 dress that made you feel like a princess. And if you let your mom make you have less fun on your trip then you are letting her more power over your life than you have and that's not okay. It took me 25 years as a grown up to figure that one out about my own mom, and I am much happier now that I did. -
