I CAN DRINK WATER AGAIN!

Niiiiiice! I've heard that taste buds keep changing and it looks like yours changed for the better. Also, great job on your weight loss. -
1 year post op and odd gut pains
Sweettoothless replied to redlirpa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Is it relieved with tums or pepto bismol? I had pain in the same spot that would come randomly and be severe and it turned out it was a hernia. (Pre wls) I wonder if it could be an ulcer? -
Mine was bruised dark purple across my whole spare tire. When the surgeon saw it at an after check up he said oh it is because of the blood thinners we gave you in your IV. Which made no sense. I think he did something because I have had 2 other unrelated surgeries since then and had no bruising. It went through all of the typical bruise colors and disappeared but it was so ugly looking!

Switching Surgeons
Sweettoothless replied to Basham53's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same way. Most surgeons give you a free consult so try someone else and let them know you are planning on switching (not thinking about but planning on) and see what happens from there. You might get good feels for the new surgeon too and all of your testing can be transferred over. -
Getting married 4 months post op....
Sweettoothless replied to amaynard's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
To explain better, I used to have to dress around my bubble butt even at lower weights than I am now. But the bubble butt oddly got less bubbly. And my boobs which are always the first to go, didn't shrink up as much as I predicted. You might find yourself wanting a mermaid design or total other type of dress that you previously never thought would look good on you. -

Also your proportions might shift around. I would lose in odd places and not in others so that certain clothes I owned would look bad/weird on me instead of just too big. -
Surgery needs and help
Sweettoothless replied to Bianca S.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some type of rubber bottomed slippers or other easy to get on but not easy to trip you type of footwear for walking the halls. I loved my short sleeved zip up robe to wear on top of my gown to not show off my butt. I just zipped it up for my walks and zipped it open when I was in bed. Bring a magazine or something to read so you can sit up in a chair and do something if you don't feel like being on your phone. Underwear and pads because a lot of women will start their cycle early after surgery. -
Pre surgery 6 mth required diet
Sweettoothless replied to jennifer47's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine had to be 6 consecutive monthly appts. I shaved time off by going on the last day of month 1 and the first day of month 6 and they okayed it. They also required some type of proof of my weight from the 2 years prior. I didn't have that but luckily I had been to a weightloss phentermine "clinic" and they took that as proof. -
Taste changes or food sensitivities after surgery
Sweettoothless replied to shellyk018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pizza was a great food-love and now it tastes different. It tastes really bland and doughy. And just not appealing. Ice-cream was my other great food-love. Now I can't even eat it. I have tried a bite and it is so gross I spit it out. I hate everything about it, the texture, the sweetness, the mouth-feel. It blows my mind. -
Anyone lose an internal staple?
Sweettoothless replied to Sweettoothless's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you thank you. I stayed up all night worried about it. My right ovary hurt before bypass and it hurt much worse afterwards but due, I think, to not being able to eat Advil like it was my job. (Advil works well for me and i am sad to lose it.) Then when my gyno called me yesterday and casually mentioned that she removed a staple that had landed on my right ovary...omg. i just imagined staples popping out of my stomach and embedding themselves everywhere and also my stomach falling apart! I have no other symptoms except my over active imagination. I meet with her for a an after hysterectomy appt and I plan to grill her further. She said it was no big deal and happens all the time. NOT TO ME LOL! Thank you for calming me down until I call my surgeon and pcp to make sure there aren't any in my kidneys (I grow stones). I've had a couple of MRIs leading up to my latest surgery but they clearly didn't see my rogue staple flipping the bird to the camera from its perch on my ovary. -
Anyone lose an internal staple?
Sweettoothless posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently had a hysterectomy and am 5 months out of rny. My surgeon told me she found a staple on my ovary. She wasn't concerned at all and said it happens. They sometimes can get pushed out during the healing process. I am totally weirded out by this. Does that mean my surgery is undoing itself? She took the loose staple out. My new insurance doesn't cover my rny surgeon so I can't go see him. Has anyone even heard of this? Rogue staples floating around inside the body? -
3 days out😞
Sweettoothless replied to Sleeved04042019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can try sipping other liquids like broth or fairlife milk or v8 juice or whatever makes the liquid more palatable for you. Sometimes just the tiniest taste of something in the water makes it easier to drink (like a cucumber slice or a frozen mango chunk). Find the temp you like the best as well, hot or room temp or icy. -
Glycerin suppositories are a miracle. You don't have to swallow any pills or feel quakey in your intestines. Just pop one in and it will melt your hard poo. (Pop it in and then do something for 30 mins like chores or bathing etc). Additionally you can use a squatty potty (around $20 on amazon)
-
Yes I did and it turned out to be kidney stones. The doc will do a scan and be able to tell where your stone is and what the size is. If they are small enough they can give you Flowmax which helps you to pee it out. Heating pads helped me.

Surgery after RNY- no protein powder no vitamins???
Sweettoothless posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was just told that prior to my upcoming surgery (non rny related) that I need to be off all vitamins and no protein powder for a week. Will I have issues with this? She said the vitamins can interfere with anesthesia and the pp can mess it up as well. I'm about 3.5 months out of rny surgery. My bloodwork for vitamins done at 3 months were all good. She said if I felt bad I could take them again but stop 3 days before. BUT on the surgery paperwork it said to not stop taking vitamins (only stop fish oil) if you are a gbp person. I didnt read the packet until I got home or I would have asked for clarification. Anyone have any advice about this? -
I need to talk about constipation post op
Sweettoothless replied to Gottajustdoit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Also this is totally tmi but if you get really really backed up you can use a glycerin suppository and it will melt some of that big giant hard poo that is stuck. Then you can use another one and it will melt off some more. Eventually the cannonball sized hard poo will get melted down to golf ball size. I had the worst experience pooing the week after because I was poorly prepared and poorly researched and too embarassed to ask anyone. -

I don't think it has any long term side effects. Since it is only a poo melter it doesn't cause any cramping and it doesn't stimulate your bowels. I like that I don't have to use it every day so it isn't like my body forgot how to poo or anything like that. Also, a squatty potty is helpful too and pretty cheap at around $20 and you can Amazon it so you don't get embarrassed. -

I use a glycerin suppository to melt the hard poos. They are inexpensive like 3 or so bucks for 100ish at wm. BUT weird if you are not used to putting anything in your butt. They are small so it doesn't hurt. You just poke one in and then go do housework or something and 20-30 mins later everything is like soft serve. I probably have to use it 3 times a week. If I don't poo by night time then I'll use one or if I eat a heavy meat like steak or chicken breast I will use one in the morning. It's simple and doesn't cause any cramping and I like not having another pill to keep track of or remember to take. -
Can I drink diet soda on my pre op liquid diet
Sweettoothless replied to Jezzabelle360's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Mine allowed diet soda also, pre and post op. They said the idea that carbonation stretches the stomach has been disproven. That being said I don't touch the stuff because it tastes too sweet to me now. -
Can we talk about food aversion
Sweettoothless replied to newmebithebypass's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes! So many of my favorites I am just not interested in. I loved pizza and now it grosses me out. Just so heavy. And I am super focused on texture instead of taste. And totally not interested in sweets. I got my daughter donuts for her graduation and I took one bite and it was so gross. I would have gone nuts for a warm Krispy Kreme in the old days. I crave bitter and sour. I drink plain 100% cranberry juice very diluted of course for an infection right now and I like it. I add lemon juice to my water for kidney stone prevention and I don't add any sweetener. A lot of things just taste like mush now. I so loved crackers and dry toast and now I don't want them at all. In fact I don't really want anything so it is difficult to meal plan and shop for the rest of my family. I'm happy about it though and i hope this aversion stays because i totally would have had Death by Toast and Crackers on my headstone if not for surgery. -
Changed mind about WLS after pre-op diet?
Sweettoothless replied to Panda333's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My pcp saw me through 6 monthly appts to fulfill my insurance requirement. The surgery was her suggestion to begin with and she had a lot of experience with patients doing their 6 month pre-op appts. She did say she had a few people decide not to do the surgery after successfully losing weight during the 6 months. She did not say what their long term success was. I had to lose only a couple of pounds each month to keep my insurance criteria right so I didn't bust my butt and lose anything more than a few pounds monthly. My surgeon did not require any diet pre-surgery except the day before surgery fast soni didn't have any big losses to make me think I could do it on my own instead. -
Surgery after RNY- no protein powder no vitamins???
Sweettoothless replied to Sweettoothless's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
What is your calcium plan? Not being nosy I just have had so much conflicting info about taking calcium or not post kidney stones. From surgeons and doctors and specialists and dietitians, I dont even know which advice to follow. -
Orthostatic Hypotension
Sweettoothless replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Please try and drink a bit of lemon in your water each day because kidney stones might be next on your list and they suck! Lemon is supposed to prevent them. -
Bariatric advantage?
Sweettoothless replied to Astarisborn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe. I'm a slow loser and my new bariatric doctor said zero protein powder allowed. I dont know how else to get the right amount of protein in while I am going through some kidney and gyno troubles and surgeries. But I have stopped mixing it into my fair life milk (high protein low sugar) and now mix it in water or food to get a total of 20 g protein 3 times a day. So according to my old doctor protein powder is fine as long as you stick to the 3 tiny meals a day and according to my new doctor I need to eat meat 3 meals a day and according to my kidney doctor no more than 6oz meat a day (divided into 3 meals.) -
Is there anything you wish you'd been told pre-op?
Sweettoothless replied to Pippa1703's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I would have been prepared for just how much my taste for things would change. I stocked up on lots of things that make me gag now (any kind of diet sugar) so all the protein shakes and clear protein drinks and crystal light and tomato soup I bought are going to be donated. I bought cases just to be prepared and had them shipped from Amazon so no returns.
