Hello Sleevers, has anyone revised their sleeve to a bypass surgery? Can you explain how it went and how was the journey? I am seriously considering this due to a major increase in reflux after my sleeve. I went from taking a prilosec once in a while or when needed (before sleeve) to 2 doses everyday (post surgery) to stay reflux free. I feel I would had been a good bypass candidate due to my Gerd history something my surgeon did not inform me of nor did I know until further investigating. The bypass surgery disables gastric juices from flowing back up instantly relieving the need for PPI. I am overall satisfied with the sleeve however I am not too thrilled about the amount of PPI medication I now have to take due to its longterm side effects.

I personally do not recommend sleeve surgery. I too have several years of reflux and decided to get the sleeve thinking it would help after weight loss but it did not. It increased my reflux which now I have to take daily meds. For us with Gerd conditions the best option is RnY due to the fact that it's impossible for reflux to travel back up. Hi Orchid thanks for your feed back. I always thought bypass was stronger than the sleeve and it was more effective with longterm weight-loss. Its good to know it instantly resolved your reflux issues though. Do you take nsaids with the RnY? I have my 1 year follow up next month with my surgeon to talk about these things.

Hello August sleevers, my anniversary is on the 29th and I have lost 75lbs exactly in a year. I was 275 on surgery date and now I weigh 200. I feel very good for the most part except for my increase of acid reflux symptoms after surgery. Are any of us on any type of PPIs like Prilosec or Nexium due to reflux??? Since surgery I have been on 40 mgs a day to stay reflux free, I have started to take it to once a day. I suffered from gerd before this surgery but now with the sleeve acid reflux is more active even though I am thin now. I personally think I should had went with a bypass instead of the sleeve due to my Gerd history. I would like revise my surgery to a bypass to complete eliminate having to take any PPIs. Something these doctors are not telling us is the dangers of longterm use of PPIs.

tightness in rib cage area
Alex123 replied to Vegasurvivor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months post op from the sleeve and started to feel similar achy right side rib cage pains that come and go. Its hard to put a finger on it as to where its coming from. For me it feels like a soreness that comes about when I move or stretch my torso or upon certain deep breathes. Its not constant I can be fine and then all the sudden feel it. Originally thought it was a lung infection and got all types of test ran which all came back negative. Ruling that out leads me to believe it is musculoskeletal. Whatever it is I have my good days and bad days with it. Like Vegassurvivor states hopefully its just one of the body changes we must go thru. Are you guys still feeling this side effect? -
Hello friends I was wondering how the journey is for seasoned sleevers and what advice you could give for us beginners. I have read a lot in regards of weight reverting and stabilization, physiological changes etc... How has the post-op experience been for you guys??? What would you have done differently if anything? Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Sideeye for sharing! Your excellent insight and advice is noted. I couldn't agree more with the statement of honeymoon phase, time flies amazingly fast and its best to make sure you put the work in when it counts like Healthy_Life states. I think if we maximize that phase not only do we accomplish our goals but we build long term habits. As for myself this surgery has been beneficial for me in so many ways and Im sure at one point or the other we all shared similar results positive or negative.

Hi Scamp your skin removal looks excellent you must be extremely satisfied. Can you tell me how many lbs of skin was removed? -
I also have been taking my daily vitamins and biotin (started 2 weeks before surgery date). Not sure if the Biotin does anything but I take it anyways to keep my hair from receding. Was wondering if any of us August sleevers where fully healed from their incisions? I am except for my belly button which seems to have started leaking again. It did it recently right after surgery and cleared up and now it recently started back up. I read incisions take up to a year to fully heal.

I think the body goes thru various transformations thru out the weight loss process. I have seen my face thin out to the point where I am a skinny person only for my cheeks and neck fill in again about a week or 2 later to a normal level. I think during this phase the body redistributes water and fat where the glycogen stores have been depleted hence the reason for reduction/inflammation dance that goes on. I truly believe the body protects itself if it feels its in a famine state. I think our DNA is predetermined with the amount of fat cells we are predetermined to have. This predetermined state is signaled if and when our levels are reduced and our body eventually adjust and shuts down. As for me my stalls are only broken thru with an increase in calories which leads me to believe this is true.

At 7 weeks post op I personally think you should not stick to your plan for those dates, I know we are different and react differently in our bodies. I think the plan is always executed year long so why should you pass up Holiday food related events, its part of the journey. Be social, merry and active. Walk the malls, help out around guest house (not that you don't), enjoy all facets of the Holidays that energy will keep you burning. Besides the surgery always keeps our body in some sort of famine and some indulging of calories help will help the metabolism. I treated Thanksgiving weekend as if it were cheat days, had family visiting from out of town. After all was said and done on that Monday I had lost a pound and lost 2 more the following days. The key is obviously is to revert back to your plan at hand once those days are over with. Also I am referring exact Holiday Dates like Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Day not the whole calendar month.

Congratulations Paul thats awesome. Its been a long road in your journey. I have been asked many times the same question, Is it worth it??? I think we all at one point or another felt it was worth it. Me being a newbie 3 months out in post op I am still learning more and more about my body. My biggest concern is the maintenance stage and how to keep it going for the long haul but Ill cross that bridge when I get there and learn what I can meanwhile. For now I am enjoying my journey. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent Kay! You have lost a lot of weight in about 7 months wow -
Hi Katie I also stalled for a month, my scale did not want to budge yet I had been religiously eating right and getting my steps in. The only think that broke me from the stall was doing the opposite and eating more for about almost a week. Sometimes glycogen restoration is needed for the body to let go of things again.

Just checking in to see how all the August sleevers are doing and share mines with you guys as well. As for me my vertigo (BPPV) has reduced significantly. I think it has something to do with calorie intake because I was able to eat more solid foods and more salt intake it leveled out. The fatigue during my 1st month has also gone away. The Thanksgiving experience was interesting as well, I ate more from the wing since the meat is softer and stuck more to the soft foods like stuffing and potato salad. My weight loss is still ongoing thankfully but at a slow steady pace. Tomorrow is my 3 month anniversary and I am at 51lbs lost. So far everything feels like it is leveling out and my body is finally adjusting.

Seems like us Aug sleevers are pretty much for the most part with a similar journey. There are 2 issues I am dealing with as of now being 2 months post op. One is coffee, for some reason coffee is giving me headaches, not throbbing headaches but mild head pains that come and go. I was headache free until recently bringing it back into my diet. Wondering if its dehydration since we are able to drink very little water. The second is vertigo mainly when I lay down in my bed to fast, seems like when I move my head up or too fast in kicks in. Any you guys experiencing any of this.

I was sleeved Aug 29 at 275 lbs. As of today I have lost 42 lbs and lost 10 lbs pre-surgery. For the last 3 weeks been pretty steady though and weight-loss has stopped, however I notice my clothes keeps getting bigger and my belt sizes have become smaller. I think during these stalls your body redistributes adipose fat and water and you continue to lose inflammation without losing lbs. I believe the 1st 3 months you are supposed to lose 33% of your excess weight. I have not started to work out rigorously besides getting my steps in at the gym at a normal pace. While my numbers are not bad I do sometimes get ahead of myself with the weight on my scale then I have to remind myself its a process so hang in there all you August sleevers!

Blood Pressure and Cardiology Oh My
Alex123 replied to Sunnyday25's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got a bit of vertigo when I was recently sleeved, mainly when I would lay down or get up or change positions. It went away and now that I am 2 months out it has come back but stronger. Any quick natural movements in day to day activities will spike the dizzyness its almost faint like. I originally was a prediabetic with hypertension before surgery. After I got sleeved my dr told me to take my BP meds in half and to no longer take Metformin. I might be at the point to completely eliminate all meds altogether. Anyways I have schedule a follow up appt with my doc about this. -
I am exactly 2 months post op as well and also in a stall, however I have lost 42 lbs since my surgery date. Everybodys body is different and loses differently. What has worked for me is eating more to break out of a stall. During stalls my body refuses to lose weight when Im eating clean and doing my routine for long stretches. Its only when I open the floodgates of my pallet that the scale goes down. During stalls our glycogen levels are depleted so the body protects itself from wasting away ( why we stall ) meanwhile the body replenishes the glycogen cells again, hence the reason why you start losing. Try consuming more calories for several days straight you will notice you wont put the weight back on yet you will continue to lose. Thats what works for me.
