I also got my sleeve on 2-6-19. After WLS is NOTHING like before WLS. I suck at explaining the exact science behind it, but basically your body starts to mobilize fat stores for energy and calories to maintain all of your bodily functions. In short, our bodies actually start doing the thing that they should’ve been doing (and yet sadly didn’t) by burning fat for energy, which is why we lose the weight. Now this magical “honeymoon” phase doesn’t last forever (😭😭😭) but the metabolic reset is kind of magical. I have loads more energy today eating 600-700 calories daily than I ever had presurgery.

Artificial Sweetener Allergies?

Seriously. Drink plain fairlife milk. Loads of proteins and way less sugars than traditional milk. -
Artificial Sweetener Allergies?
Sheribear68 replied to jenmc1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m not allergic to artificial sweeteners, but they give me side effects such as nausea and headaches. That being said, the first 2 weeks of liquid diet almost killed me due to EVERYTHING being artificially flavored. I gagged down half a protein shake a day until I gave up and just started drinking fairlife milk. Right when I was cleared for soft foods, I kicked protein shakes to the curb and haven’t looked back once. So what you can probably expect is to not hit your protein goals until you can eat enough real food to get your protein. I know some people get all worked up about not hitting daily protein goals, but those are usually people who can turn to a shake of they need to. So far, I’ve lost 47 pounds since 2-6-19 and probably didn’t hit a single protein goal for my first month. I never had any issues with energy levels and I started working out pretty regularly at 4 weeks post-op. Make dairy protein your best friend (milk, cottage cheese, eggs, soft cheeses,etc..) and you’ll be much happier. -
I also had an abnormal ekg and I’ve never had heart issues in the past. Went to a cardiologist and after an echocardiogram, was cleared for surgery I also had odd thyroid numbers and they discovered nodules on my thyroid that had to be first ultrasounded, then biopsied. Turns out I will eventually have hashimoto’s, but at least I didn’t have thyroid cancer. All of these annoying things ended up delaying my surgery by about 4-5 weeks, but I did finally get my surgery 2-6-19. Since then, I’ve dropped close to 50 pounds and am almost halfway to my goal weight.

First thing you ate when you were cleared for normal food

Cottage cheese. I measured out 1/4 cup (which at the time looked so tiny in the bowl) and was only able to eat about 2/3 of it, which shocked me. It was the most delicious cottage cheese I’d ever had in my life... -

Wow guys. So sorry that y’all are feeling sick. I’m wondering if all of us February peeps are struggling because of the timing of our surgeries and the dread 3 month stall? If that’s the case, I’m determined to keep plugging away and fall back on non scale victories to get me through this rough spot -
February 2019 weight loss buds

Very nice! Well my losses are slowing down even more than usual. I just did my tracker for May and I’ve lost 3.6 pounds since May 1st. It’s gonna be tough to hit my goal of 10 pounds/month at this rate. Fingers crossed I can hit the 180’s by June, but today I weighed in at 194.4 so it’s not looking promising. One day—just one day— I’d love to have a loss of 2-3 pounds. Not sure why my body seems physically unable to have a fast “whoosh” anywhere along this whole process. -
Let's talk about body dysmorphia

Lol, I remember being very angry at one of my favorite plus-size clothing brands one time when I was needing to purchase a dress last minute for an event and the current size I thought I was was too small. I honestly blamed it on the clothes because there was “no way” I was that bigger size. As I’m in the halfway spot that I’m in right now, I’m finding myself shopping consignment fairly regularly. I don’t have a choice as I’ve already gone though the “skinny” clothes I had in my closet. It’s really weird putting on a pair of size 14 pants now and finding that I can actually pull them over my hips (even if they still do fit a bit snugly). Lol, it’s also disheartening to realize that size 14 is still considered “plus size” Seriously I do NOT feel plus size right now because I’m weighing less than I have in the last 20-plus years -

Sorry to hear this! I’m willing to bet your tummy couldn’t handle the sugars in the margarita. Honestly I’m almost as sad thinking about the awesome drinks I won’t be able to tolerate as much as the thought of missing some of the food. I guess in a way I’m lucky that I had to work all weekend because it eliminated the availability for my family to do anything special for Mother’s Day. Lol, kinda hard for your family to try to over feed you when you’re working 34 hours from Friday through Sunday -
Let's talk about body dysmorphia

Loving this thread so far and I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s answers. I can completely relate to body dysmorphia. I had always run from cameras and on the rare occasions where I had no option but to be in pictures, I was horrified at how large I looked. I too would look at people that I just knew were “bigger” than me only to discover I weighed more and wore a bigger clothes size. Lol, one day I was seeing plus size models in an ad and realized they were wearing clothes THREE SIZES smaller than my current size. Now that I’m approximately halfway to my goal weight, I’m seeing myself as the size I kinda thought I always was in my brain, so I don’t know what to think about that. I still feel as if current pictures of me are “larger” than how I feel inside, but I’m still 50-ish pounds away from goal weight so hopefully someday I actually look as small as I feel. My all-time high weight was 272 a few years ago. When I started pre-surgery stuff I was 259 and I’m currently 195 after being sleeved February 6th this year. I’m 5’7” and have a goal weight of between 140-145. Started off as a size 22 and now can fit into size 16s. -
Happy Monday everyone. It’s been a rough few days, and I’m so freaking glad it’s Monday so I can FINALLY have a couple days off work. I’m so glad I’ve lost 50 pounds over the last few months because 3 days in a row of 13 hour shifts isn’t killing me as much as it used to. I’ve got 3 Pilates classes scheduled for the day, plus a million errands that need to be run. Can’t wait to spring to it and get started!

Same. I have such a phobia of vomiting that I’ve been known to spend hours upon hours miserable during my lifetime when throwing up would’ve made me feel so much better. I literally just cannot physically bear the thought of it. 🤷♀️ When I tell people I haven’t vomited once during chemo, or pregnancies, drinking too much, or stomach viruses or bariatric surgery they look at me with skepticism, but it’s the absolute truth. I think what’s helped me more than anything with this experience is that I too am an extremely cautious eater. The instant I feel anything going on with my new sleeve, I immediately set down my fork and I’ve even stopped with a bite of food mid-way to my mouth. After I get over the feeling of sadness, I’m happy because of the smaller, fitter me -

Lol, now it sounds like you’re eating like me. I like putting 3-4 bites of multiple foods on my plate rather than 1/2 cup one single food. -

This!!! I swear my tummy has regressed in the last 3 weeks and can’t hold as much. Today I didn’t even eat half of what I brought to work (which would’ve only totaled 350 calories) and then we did early Mother’s Day dinner with my daughter, mother, and hubs since I’ve got to work 7-7 both days this weekend. I ordered my fave tuna sashimi and miso soup and got through—maybe— 6 spoonfuls of soup and 3 bites of tuna and 1 piece gyoza before I had to call it quits. It’s weird because I really thought I’d be starving after not much food today, but I just can’t seem to hold as much as before. I guess as long as my current energy levels stay the same and I don’t start having massive tufts of hair fall out, I’ll be okay with this. Heck, I’m a 50yo woman who works like a maniac 40hrs/week and exercises all of the time so I guess I won’t worry too much yet. -

Well after complaining about not losing any weight since the 5th, I got on the scale this morning and dropped 1.4 pounds. 🤷♀️ I mean, it’s still only 1.4 pounds in 5 days, but at least—so far— it’s not a dreaded stall -

Okay so since today was my 90 day surgiversary I got on the scale mid-week. BIG MISTAKE!!! I’ve lost exactly zero ounces since Sunday. 😩😩😩 Anyway, I still plastered a fake smile on because it is time for progress pics. Forgive the look, but it’s my day off and I’m about to head out for Pilates. Slept like crap last night because we had t-storms all night and the cats were freaking out. Think I got about 3 hrs sleep all added together.... -
Honestly my relationship with my mother. It’s too complicated to get into here, but my sister and I have always had to hold onto each other in the absolute chaos that our nuclear family was. When I had cancer 10 years ago she came to me in tears begging me not to die and “leave her alone to deal with our crazy family”. No matter how much I change myself, I will never be able to change my mother and that’s a tough pill to swallow.

Been mia for a couple of days because life has been busy busy busy. Worked up a sweat today at work because my company can’t figure out oklahoma humidity and it was sweltering all day. Didn’t do my push ups today, but more than made up for that yesterday with a jillion planks at Pilates. I’m so excited to have the next couple of days off and have some free time

February 2019 weight loss buds

This is quite profound. So many of us want a quick fix and then go back to the same behaviors that got us needing bariatric surgery to start with. As frustrating as my loss is at times, I’m glad it’s going a bit slower because my brain gets the opportunity to catch up with my body. It’s also a great opportunity (lol, I know this sounds a bit like corporate-speak) to develop and hone new behaviors and habits. Anna.... I’ve seen you identify some trouble spots, address them, then go on to success. Kudos for that because it’s a great step in the right direction. I’m so very sorry that some of us are still battling extreme nausea and I’m hoping and praying that everyone here gets answers to all of their health issues soon. To you guys who are smashing your goals: CONGRATS!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I’m excited because tomorrow marks my 90 day surgiversary. Gonna celebrate by weighing in and having hubs take progress pics. -

Well yes, but isn’t it wonderful that you had surgery when you did and you’ve come so far already? I bet you feel so much better in your much smaller body. I’m still just barely under 200 (196.6 as of this morning) and realize that there are many women out there who would hate themselves at this weight I’m currently at. I however, feel AMAZING at this weight because it’s so much lower than I’ve weighed in over 22 years. -

So sorry that you’re feeling bad but glad that you broke through a mini stall. Guys, I’ve heard that another stall comes at 3 months, which is making me a bit nervous seeing as I hit my 3 month anniversary in 2 days...... 😱
