Anyone have luck with peer review reversal?
ms.sss replied to MandyLou's topic in Insurance & Financing
Not sure if you are using the mobile app or the desktop version, but if you are on the Desktop: Click your profile pic at top right, select MY SURGERY from drop down. Select PROGRESS on the left side bar. There will be a toggle button that you can switch from metric to imperial measurements -
Anyone have luck with peer review reversal?
ms.sss replied to MandyLou's topic in Insurance & Financing
sorry, I have no experience in this, but I would like to point out that your side profile shows that you are 217kg (478lbs). I'm assuming since you said your BMI is 37 that this was a typo? -
Weight Loss Stagnation 10 Months Post-Op
ms.sss replied to Paul.VDH's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The "10oz per meal"...do you know how many calories these meals consists of? At 10 months, weight loss is more affected by caloric value vs volume/mass. A 10oz salad is just a fraction of the calories of a 10oz burger. If you can, try tracking your food intake and see if this is where you can make some changes. Track it for say, a week straight and you can get an idea of your average intake. Reduce if necessary. Calorie intake is *usually* the issue if a stall lasts longer than a few weeks (months?). If not, I'd probably suggest to consult a medical professional to see if you have any circumstances that pre-dispose you to being heavier. Good Luck! ❤️ -
Is smoking marijuana safe after surgery?
ms.sss replied to NinaMariexo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried smoking a joint the first week after surgery. I didn't wan't to take pain meds cuz it backs me up, so i figured I would try some pot and see if it would help to keep my mind off my sore tummy. Anyhoo, I hadn't smoked in a while, so of course after the first drag i had a coughing fit. Ouch the pain in my stomach from the coughing was 10000000x times worse, *sigh*. So that was the end of that. If I remember correctly, I tried again the next summer (about 8 months postop), and no issues. Though i probably would have been fine having some earlier (like when my tummy soreness was gone). -
yep, its normal. i lost lots, and it all grew back (plus some, i think). I didn't do anything other than cut my hair super short.
-
I started losing my hair at 3 mnths post op. Cut It all off into a pixie-cut shortly thereafter. I noticed all the chicken hair regrowth around 6-7 months postop. I’m almost 3 yrs post now and i have a full head of past-shoulder-length hair. Would’ve been longer but I had lots of haircuts.

I'm with @PolkSDA on this one (Full disclosure: I used to be Team Ultra-Low Carb during weight loss phase and some months afterwards, but had changed my tune since.) OP, I eat "unhealthy" stuff on the regular. Mostly in the from of dessert-y stuff, and fried stuff. I still limit my carb-y bread/rice/pasta intake, but eat some once in a while ,esp if it's homemade. I also drink (alcohol) regularly. I'm sure many of the members on here would tsk-tsk or clutch their pearls at the range of foods I eat. But I get it...my eating habits, while they work for me and my lifestyle, would be an utter crash and burn for others. I know my limits and boundaries and they know theirs. We all succeed and fail under different circumstances. The secret is to figure out what special set of circumstances will work for YOU. I track everything I eat (garbage and all), and make decisions on what I am willing to eat based on what MFP says, as well as what my scale says in the morning. This protocol has been serving me well for 2 years. I am only almost 3 years post op, so am really still just "at the beginning of the rest of my life", so who knows if what I'm doing will sustain me. But its working so far. P.S. I am 5'2" female, 115 lbs and have been maintaining this weight (+/- 5 lbs) for 2 years. Good Luck! ❤️

@kristieshannon ! I've missed you! Sigh. The one single thing I miss from being married for decades is DATING! Lol, there is nothing funner than going on dates with someone new who want nothing but to impress you! (Don't get me wrong, I love me my Mr., but I do remember dating to be FUN TIMES) My initial reaction would be just to go full-disclosure with Mr. New, and if he is a d**k about it, then you can thank yourself for dodging a bullet. BUT...since that provides absolutely no help whatsoever in practice...may I suggest crotch-less pantyhose? Keeps everything in place and firm-looking yet still provides the necessary "access". I'm not talking about regular stockings with a garter...personally I find my own "looseness" in that area to just ooze over the top of them like a thigh-version of a muffin top. I'm thinking more along the lines of the item in the pic below. 😉 I hope you have a FABULOUS time!

I probably single-handedly supported the entire beef jerky industry during weight loss phase (and some months after that). Little to no sugar, lotsa protein and satisfied my never-ending salt cravings. I always had a little ziploc of it in my purse. I also ate alot of cottage cheese and yogurt. After weight loss phase, I went through a love-affair with chicharron (i.e., pork rinds/cracklins). But I wouldn't recommend this until you are past weight loss phase as they are VERY high in calories (but also very high in protein). In terms of substitutes and alternatives, here are some examples of items I ate (and still eat)...note that I was ultra-low carb during weight loss phase, and and try to be semi-low carb now (but don't always succeed, lol) Shiratake noodles instead of pasta (actually very low nutrtion-wise, but I had to eat my saucy foods with something!) Chicken pizza crusts instead of wheat based pizza crusts (I also did cauliflower crusts, but I personally prefer the chicken ones). Kale chips instead of chips-chips Berries instead of higher-sugar fruits cashew milk instead of regular milk almond flour instead of wheat flour (careful: almond flour is way higher in calories) Stevia or erythritol instead of sugar sparkling water with lemon instead of pop/soda

Short answer: yes, it does get better. Long answer: From a sample of one (me)…i had a challenging time drinking those effing protein shakes the first couple weeks. No joke, I couldn’t even finish 1 serving in 3 days…i would end up tossing it and make a new one…which I also could not finish. What helped was switching to a less sweet brand (i ended up settling on Isopure Dutch Chocolate). I used water instead of milk, added a tsp of decaf instant coffee crystals, and blended it with ice…so much more palatable (for me). I also went through about 2-3 weeks of a serious case of total food aversion and just wanted to gag at even just the thought of eating. It slowly got better. Am almost 3 yrs out now and I can eat basically anything (if I wanted to, and yes, in much, much smaller amounts than pre-op) Hang in there, this is all temporary. This time next year, your rockin’ bod in a bikini will make all the current annoyances a distant memory. Good Luck! ❤️

I had my first carbonated drink at around the 1-2 month mark (sparkling water). Made me burp like a crazy person. But i love it (and had no adverse effects other then the embarrassing/annoying burping, so just kept drinking it, in small amounts at first) I’ll be 3 years out in October and I probably drink 5-6 litres of sparkling water a week (I have a water carbonator at home) P.S. I still burp. Not the ridiculous amount as before, but still a alot.

Amen sister. I honestly think this is the not-so-secret to weight loss and maintenance: keep doing what works until it doesn’t anymore.

Im afraid i picked the wrong doctor
ms.sss replied to alandk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, i’ll echo the others here in saying trust your doc. He has actually seen you and treated you, and I would assume he would be in a better position to advise YOU, than someone who’s never met you. On the other hand, your peace of mind is paramount, so if you believe you will be better served by another, then by all means go that route. You *may* be hindering your future success if you don’t trust your doc…so go with one you do. P.S. Nothing is stopping you from waiting a couple more weeks before YOU feel comfortable enough to go swimming. He didn’t say you HAD to go swimming, only that you CAN. Good Luck! ❤️ -
Am almost 3 years out…i can drink right up to the second before i put solid food in my mouth, with no issues. But I don’t drink while im eating nor for about 1/2 an hour after. If i did i would get overly full really fast and eventually barf. …and when i eat broth based soups with chunks in it, i slurp all the liquid first and then eat the chunks.
-
I did reeeaaally runny scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. I dont think I even started with vegetables (cooked or otherwise) until about month 3…but only because of the lack of stomach real estate. According to my food logs, i also dabbled in smoked oysters (from the can), yogurt and creamed soups.

Beer battered Halibut and some frozen fries. A little bit of homemade tartar sauce too. 350 calories for the plate. oh, plus an espresso martini: +141 cals Oh x2: an extra table spoon of mayo that I added to the sauce cuz it just didn’t taste right: 94 cals (which I didn’t end up eating so didn’t log.) -

Looks like we have the same kitchen countertop! 😂 Im intrigued by those burger buns…what ate they made of? Homemade??? -
From what I understand, yes...very normal. I'm almost 3 years out and can STILL rival the burpings of a teenage boy.

Its been days now since I had a salad, which is very unlike me. Mind you this salad is more like a smorgasbord of leftovers in the fridge. But whatevs, I'll take it. Romaine, cucumber, carrots, grapes, feta, roasted garlic, watermelon, pumpkin seeds, kimchi, roast pork, anchovies & vinaigrette: 327 calories for the whole thing. Am currently eating it and will likely eat it all throughout the day. -

Same. During weight loss phase and several months immediately after, I would just log the whole thing whether I ate it or not. I figured it was better to over-estimate than under. Now, I just try to guesstimate what i actually ate cuz I eat ALOT more these days, and if i logged the entire meals I serve myself I would be waaaaaay over. -
Sorry, I don’t really understand the question? Do u mean did i do the liquid pre-op diet AFTER surgery? Cuz no, I didn’t…i just tried to eat what I could given the circumstances.

I realize this is my 3rd food post on here in the span of about an hour, which speaks my unsatisfied munchies. Well, finally found something that hit the spot! 20g chunk of double smoked gouda wrapped with a slice of prosciutto: 150 calories. Ate it all. I should be good now! -

Ok, I can tell its going to be one of those days that I just want to eat something, but nothing is going get my motor running. Thought I reeeeeaaaaally wanted to eat this mini Sfogliatelle from my fave Italian bakery (crispy italian pastry with sweet ricotta filling...this one was also flavoured with pistachio), but then I took like 2 bites and was like, meh. The Kid gladly ate the rest though. The entire thing is probably 250 calories, but am logging 1/3 of that for what I figured I actually ate: 83 calories -

Too lazy to make a salad, so am eating a slice of homemade pesto-mushroom-tomato-roasted garlic-prosciutto pizza Mr. made for dinner last night. The deep fried thing on the side is an arancini ball, also leftovers from last night. Had I eaten everything on the plate, it would have been 397 calories. But since i didn't eat the arancini, and ate about 3/4 of the pizza, I just logged 200 calories in MFP (I tossed the leftovers cuz I had no intention of eating what was left). Oh, and I also had as espresso martini (not shown) beforehand: + an additional 141 calories
