Torn between counting carbs or counting calories
ms.sss replied to KathyLev's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’ll be 5 years post op in October, and I was (and still am) an avid tracker so I log everything I eat, and my app figures out the cals and macros. During weight loss phase I focused on being ultra-low carb (under 25g NET carbs a day). I also went low-calorie but this sorta happened on its own cuz I didn’t really want to eat much anyway…I.e., by the time I got to goal, I was consuming sub-800 cals a day. lost all the weight I wanted plus a bit more, and looked like death’s older sister lolzzzzz. i eventually got over my fear of carbs during maintenance and by around 2-3 years post-op, was eating whatever carbs I want (not just good carbs, but the not-so-great ones as well…I’m looking at dessert and chips!) BUT I still make sure to stay within my maintenance calorie range1800-ish cals a day normally, 2300+ cals when I’m in an exercising phase. Its worth noting that I actually weigh LESS today (119 lbs) than I did when I was death’s sibling after reaching goal (127 lbs) yet I look waaaaaaay healthier (not so gaunt) now. I think it’s the carbs. While I really liked how my body looked back then when I was low-carbing, my face really suffered. Now, though my body looks less fit and “softer”, my face is also looking “softer” and is quite pleasing to look at in the mirror lolololzzzzzz. long story short, weight loss is ultimately down to calories in and calories out, however way those calories are comprised (carb, fat, or proteins). Stay under your maintenance calories and you WILL lose weight. The trick is finding out what your maintenance calories are at ANY GIVEN POINT IN TIME because it isn’t static and changes with age, activity level, health status, sleep patterns, stress levels, etc….which is why I’m a big proponent of food/body weight/activity tracking cuz all that data helps to figure out patterns and stuff. i get it’s not for everybody though. But I totally credit tracking to me staying under goal weight this entire time (5 years post in October). Good Luck!❤️ -

i dunno!?! other than bolognese (which really is only second best to white cream sauces!) and the THIN layer of tomato sauce on pizzas, i find warm tomato preparations gag-ish lol. i too love me a nice bowl of soup, but i lean towards clear-ish broths/consommés/stocks. i also love cream soups but im lactose-intolerant so i dont eat as much as i would like to, ha! i can enjoy a nice bowl of gazpacho though! so we can still be friends!! 😂😂 p.s. further to my tomato quirk, i prefer my salsa on the side when eating nachos, cuz salsa on TOP of nachos get warm 🤢. same goes for tomato slices on burgers, diced tomatoes in tacos, etc.... -

Mr. made minestrone for lunch which i really do not enjoy eating (i am NOT a fan of tomato-based soups) so i ate this lovely bowl of popcorn and chips instead 😂 Don't judge me! 160 cals for a little more that 1 cup of popped microwave popcorn and 11 pringles chips. Ate it all. -

i made Funnel Cakes yesterday! these are my absolute fave carnival treats! pic on the left are my 3 first attempts to get the batter right. (1) too thick, (2) cap fell off the squeeze bottle, and (3) too watery, lol pic on the right turned out juuuust right (4th try). topped with powdered sugar, vanilla bean ice cream and my own homemade strawberry sauce. pretty, no? anyway, i had exactly one bite of this with just the strawberry sauce and powdered sugar, and it was delish. i didn't log it cuz i was too lazy, but im guessing probably 100-150 calories including the 3 taste tests of the earlier fails? -

Should I try a binder for my breasts?
ms.sss replied to mcipanda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
yep. my boobs went from droopy potato sacks to droopy EMPTY potato sacks, LOL. I did get a breast lift about a year after WLS and now i have perky 16-year old boobs that don't need bras to stay perky. -
How do I know when I'm full?? - 1 week post-op
ms.sss replied to melanieinamumu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
everyone seems to have different full signals, but mine was an increasing pressure in my chest. once i started to feel a teeny bit of that i would stop. i also ate verrrrrrrry slowly so i had time to notice the feeling before it was too late. too late == pain and barfing, so it was in my best interest to stop before i reached to point of no return. Good Luck! ❤️ -
my first thought would be bloating/water retention from your period. fluctuations are normal. so long as the general overall trend is downward, you're golden. Good Luck! ❤️

soft boiled egg on buttered toast topped with a green-onion-ginger-condiment i made. 317 calories, ate almost all of it. Leftover bread was tossed. -
i was given pain meds at the hospital, and i had my Rx for pain filled at the hospital as well. but i didn't take any when i got home, as while i did feel a bit of discomfort, i felt it wasn't enough to warrant pain meds. on the other hand, when i had plastics (which included tummy tuck) i was all over my pain meds, and even had them refilled after the inital Rx ran out after a week.

First appt Tomm, super nervous!

i think i only sipped water for maybe 2 weeks max. then one day just forgot to sip and guzzled down a whole bunch of water and was like: !! haven't had issues with drinking any amount of liquids since (i'm almost 5 years post) -
I got nano beads at a home based salon near me. i will say that they didn't last long, lol. after about 4 days i decided they were too long and had them shortened to about top-of-boob length and removed about 60% of them, mostly from the top and near my ears. i am a frequent run-my-hand-through-my-hair-to-get-out-of-my-face type of gal and the extensions on the top and sides prevented me from doing that so i had them removed. super long hair extensions were alot more high maintenance than i though they would be! anyway, they are at a much more manageable length now and i have enough still in there to make my hair look nice and thick and full so its all good.

Anyone starting out around 225lbs?
ms.sss replied to Tammy Monette's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
well, if we compare (and we KNOW we aren't supposed to), given our sorta similar starting stats, you are actually more or less at the same place i was at 4 months post op so its totally doable good luck! ❤️ -

quick lunch me and Mr. shared: Sesame milk bread with brie and a bit of homemade cherry compote (basically like a savory cherry jam...i had a ton of cherries from a recent cherry-picking excursion that needed using up) 412 cals for all of it. 206 calories for what i ate (i.e., half of it) -
i'm a psychopath! honestly, im not really surprised 😂😜
