    The Maintenance Thread

I think I'm the same way as well. Once the decision is made, then it's done. I'm pretty sure I made a decision. It's day 2 of being smoke-free and I haven't had any out of control cravings. So far so good....

    The Maintenance Thread

(sigh) OK. Let's talk transfer addictions. I have a confession and I'm putting it up here for some accountability. It took some time to decide if I would actually post this... Soooooooo...I picked up a bad habit in Italy last month: Smoking. I was an-almost-a-pack-a-day smoker until July 24th 2010 (yup I know the exact day) when I quit cold turkey (it was relatively easy because we had relocated to another country for a year and the cigarettes were EXPENSIVE there). I hadn't had a smoke since then...until a tall dark Italian fellow offered me a cigarette on one of our late night patio-crawls last month and I was all "What's the harm in one cigarette?" Mr. said it was a bad idea. I made the conscious decision not to heed his protest. Mr. was right. It was a bad idea. I said I would stop as soon as we got back home. I didn't. I said I would stop the following Monday. I didn't. I said I would stop after (Canadian) Thanksgiving. I didn't. Then yesterday I got busted by The Kid. She found the empty Tim Horton's coffee cup I've been using as an ashtray on the back porch. Getting a watery-eyed scolding from a 14-year old kid is very humbling. I felt about 2 inches tall. We broke the last 4 cigarettes I had on me (I shamefully admit that I tried to negotiate with her that I could just finish those last 4 and start fresh the next day, it was/is Nov 1st after all - she was having none of that). I also need to acknowledge that Mr. did not hound me to quit. He knows that doesn't work on me from him. But I guess he knew it would work from the Kid, as I could see him in the corner of the room standing with approval as I was getting told off. So now I need to get through the next couple weeks while the nicotine gets out of my system. Mr. asked for the lighter I bought in Italy, under the pretense he wanted to light a candle...um, I know what you are doing, mister. The Kid sniffed me this morning. I see I am now officially on smoke-watch. Oh, and I noticed that the bowl of leftover fun-size-Snickers is missing from the front hall. If I wasn't mildly irritated, I would tell them I love them. Maybe tomorrow. Wish me luck.
  3. My surgeon said it was all preference: If I don't want to see it, choose back of the arm. If I don't want others to see it, choose the inside of arm. With that said, I chose inside-the-arm (coming soon end of December btw, super stoked) because: 1) I have been known to be "hyper-pigmentation-y" and I will likely have thick scars for a while (my WLS scars are still very dark and visible) and I don't want people (both strangers and ones known to me) to ask me: "What happened to your arm?!?" 2) I am also getting skin removal on my side boob, so there are going to be scars under there anyway.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Thu, Oct. 31 👻 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 112.9 lbs ...managed to stay away from the Halloween candy...for now. I'm coming after you soon fun-size Snickers...Bwha-ha-ha-ha-ha! 9:00am - chicken brotth 11:00am - salad greens + olive oil + almonds + pumpkin seeds + 3/4 cup of beef stew (minus the potatoes) 5:00pm - salad greens + olive oil + cucumber + cheddar cheese + 3/4 cup of beef stew (minus the potatoes) 7:30pm - 3-4 sips of BFF's vodka ceasar (I logged it in MFP as 1/4 cup) + 3 bites of BFF's poutine (logged in MFP at 1/4 a St. Louis Wings Poutine) 10:00pm - the Kid's leftover "Lunchables" snack pack (4 crackers, 4 turkey slices, 4 cheese slices...she ate the KitKat earlier...go figure) + 1 tbsp peanut butter + 2 squares dark chocolate + 1/3 cup raspberry lime sorbet. Totals: 1435 cals - 74g* Protein - 83g* NET carbs - 62g* fat * Note the macros are wholly inaccurate for this entry as the 7:30pm wings poutine & the 10pm leftover "Lunchables" only had calorie counts in MFP, and no macro breakdowns (and there is NO WAY these things had zero carbs!) *

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Arg..It was raining here in my neck of the woods so the trick or treaters were very few and and even further between. Which means our Halloween bowl of fun-size Snickers is still very much in tact. Surprisingly, I haven't eaten one....YET (I opted for some raspberry mint sorbet Mr. brought home instead). I do see some serious Snickers-snacking in my very near future though.... #yum

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

I think your pizza sounds yum...pretty good for 345 cals. I tend to eat the same thing for days as well (read: salad). Something new will go into the fridge or pantry and I'll just keep eating it until it's gone...which often takes a while.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Now that I am actually running (instead of alternating kms of running and walking) I rarely go over the 1 hour mark. I'm thinking next spring (when it gets warmer again) I'm going to try to go for longer, and will likely need something in my stomach for fuel. We'll see. It's funny because I never thought in a gazillion years I would ever call myself a runner. I was the epitome of a couch potato before. I am planning on registering for a mini-triathalon for July next year, and am focusing on getting my swimming up to snuff over the winter. Me, in a triathalon??!? Ca-Ray-ZY.

OK. I've always wondered about "pre-workout" meals. I run in the mornings, but I do it on an empty stomach (I don't even have my coffee or broth until after the workout). How much time do you wait after eating before you actually start the run?
  12. Hugs for any challenging times you are going through right now. P.S. You look pretty damn good, though 👍🏼

    Those last 14 lbs....

I agree 110%. With that said, I got to 25 by plugging away at the same thing I was doing since Day 1: low cal, very low carb. This was coupled with slowly increasing exercise length and intensity as my health/strength/stamina improved over the months. I consciously stopped weight loss mode when I was at 23.5. I increased calories and let go of the carb reigns to a certain extent. Now, a year out and almost 5 months into maintenance, I am at around 20-21. I still keep an eye on my carb intake: I don't eat bread nor rice; pasta I've only had during one vacation this year. However, I have been known to go to town on dessert once in a while. I exercise almost daily. This is sustainable...for me. Edited to add: When all is said and done, BMI is just a number based on a very broad generalization of infinite body types. Your final weight should be the one you are most comfortable at and can maintain long term.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Mon, Oct. 28 Maintenance : 5'2" / F / 1yr PO / 113.0 lbs ...did a deep dive on my food intake logs for the past couple weeks and realized that on the days that I reach close to 2000 cals, its because I had some sort junk or another. Thinking I need to nip that in the bud and increase calories with "healthier food". Will attempt to see what I can do about that today. But here is yesterday's menu: 9:00am - coffee w/ stevia 11:00am - salad greens + olive oil + 1.5oz costco garlic chicken leg w/ tzatziki + 2oz montreal smoked meat + Parmesan cheese + peanuts + pumpkin seeds 2:30pm - 2 oz chicharron + turkey jerky + chicken broth 5:00pm - salad greens + olive oil + roasted beets + 2oz montreal smoked meat + Parmesan cheese + avocado + cottage cheese + blueberries 7:45pm - starbucks americano misto with soy Totals: 1910 cals - 142g Protein - 54g NET carbs - 124g fat

    October 2018 Sleevers

First, congratulations on all your success at this milestone! 134 lbs lost is CA-RAY-ZY. I think you are right, your body is likely acclimating to the new influx of calories, it's probably all "oooohh, calories, haven't had these in a while, lets hang on to them, cuz I don't know how long this is gonna last..." The last 10-15 lbs they say takes the longest to come off, staying on weight loss calories for your height will get you there eventually. Good luck with your appt with your doc/NUT

    Dumping

I had my first dumping episode at about 3 months post op. It was from a couple bites of some dessert. In about 5-10 mins after eating it, I got the shakes, my heart started racing and I stared to sweat. Then 5 or so mins after that I got the runs. Then I barfed. Then more runs. I felt like total crap for about an hour then fell asleep. So yeah, it sucks.
  23. ms.sss

    I messed up :-(

Unless you are experiencing pain or something out of the ordinary (barfing/pooping lots/not pooping at all, etc), you should be fine. Just learn your lesson, dust yourself off and start fresh. You will be successful if you stick to your plan. You may not if you don’t. Good luck! P.S. if you are really, really, worried, check in with your team ❤️

  25. @GreenTealael: your tummy must be miniscule. Do you find that your portions are smaller now since your revision, or did you always have the same amount of restriction?
