    OOTD

Lunch and afternoon drinks with the gals...such a beautiful day today (summer, don’t go!!) Was looking through some older OOTD pics and it seems my go-to pose is to stand with my feet unnaturally spread apart. I wonder if I do this when I’m just standing around normally???

    Pooping

Ugh. I suffered from constipation for like the first 4-5 months. I would go maybe every 3 days if I was lucky and it was always a “strained” experience (this is far cry from the 2-3 times of soft stools DAILY pre-op). I did take miralax every day and added Benefibre to my protein shakes (2x a day). Now (almost 2 yrs out). I go probably every other day and dont need to strain hardly ever. No more miralax nor benefibre needed. I also do eat alot more now than before so that probably helps (and alot of what i eat are vegetables...) Are you taking iron supplements or pain meds? These are notorious for backing one up.
  8. Here (in Ontario) we can get diagnostic tests performed and covered by provincial health insurance if your PCP orders one. Mine ordered one...his suggestion, not mine. But even if he didn’t, I probably would have asked him to anyway. So first step, I think would be to go see your PCP and discuss.

to implant or not to implant

Keep in mind that you actually need some fat to get a fat graft. And you won’t want to lose much more weight after it, lest you lose the fat that was grafted too. I was once considering a BBL but was told I was not a good candidate as I had too little body fat. Good thing I didn’t as I lost a further 12 lbs after that consult.
  10. @SeattleGirl72: Yeah, I was going to suggest getting a baseline scan now so you have something to compare for later. I had my baseline done 3 months after surgery, but haven't had another one done since (I'm almost 2 years post op). Not really sure when I'm supposed to get another one (guess I'm going to ask my PCP next time I see him...)
  11. I may have a food fetish then, lol (or an eating disorder, yikes.). I still love to cook, plate it, take pics of of it, look at it, smell it, go to all kinds of restaurants and pour over the menu, then order ridiculous amounts of it off the menu, watch people eat it, research recipes and try new making new stuff, try to perfect old stuff...jeez. BUT, i often get little pleasure in actually eating it. It's almost always a let down from the build up I create. Once in a while I truly enjoy eating something (usually salad or dessert, lol), but this is few and far between.

    Weight lost question

Hello fellow Canadian! Like the posters said above, there are alot of factors that determine weight loss. What is your weight? How tall are you? Are you counting your calories...do you know how many calories you are taking in daily?
  13. +1 on the comments above about getting loose skin. You won't really know how you will fare until after you lose the weight. Some are lucky in this regard, others are not (I got mine surgically removed last year) I started walking on Day 1 (started by doing laps around the kitchen island, lol..worked my way up to walking around the block once, and then multiple times, etc., etc.) Was cleared for ALL exercise at 4 weeks, but didn't really get into a regular routine until month 3. By month 3 I was walking 3km a day and doing some sort of other exercise 2-3 times a week (hot yoga, zumba, salsa, bouldering) Fast forward almost 2 years and my regular routine is running a minimum of 5km a day and 20 mins of some sort of strength training almost every day (I haven't gone to the gym or any classes since pandemic started, not sure when I'm going to be comfortable going back..but this works for me for now). My only tip would be to find something that you like (or at least don't hate, lol), you have a better chance of sticking with it Good Luck!
  14. Hi! I had trouble drinking the first few days. Felt like I was drinking/sipping all day long but would get no where near the 2L a day my team asked me to reach (probably only got in barely 1/2 a litre total by EOD, and that was including my protein shakes!) After about a week though, I was suddenly able to gulp water again again. Give it a couple more days, and I think may notice the same... Good Luck!

That’s arriving in style, all right!!! Now I need me some fancy friends to go jet-setting in a helicopter! Got room for one more in your friend group???? Lololololzzz P.S. I’m assuming that’s you, the second from the right, right? (The one all in black, natch) You are purty, lady! And you look much, much, much younger than you said you were!!!

Good news is, it didn’t rain. But more importantly, the BAD News is that we lost!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Btw, glad u are back, I missed you ❤️ That cabin in the woods is absolutely adorable...as is that pastel-y striped dress you were wearing. And I love that you and Mr. Sophie are colour coordinated in that pic 😍

Heading out to an outdoor viewing party for tonight’s Raptors game. Hopefully the threat of rain stays away...but got my raincoat on just in case. I think the jacket looks better closed, but it’s way more comfy open...

  19. I went to my first party 3 weeks post op. I didn’t eat anything (I brought a protein shake with me that I took a few sips of, though). Friends and fam kept offering me food, but I just said no thanks each time. After a while they gave up. I had to endure this for many parties/get-togethers afterwards, and after maybe 6 months most were pretty much used to me not eating much and the badgering almost completely stopped. It is annoying while it happens, but eventually others get used to your new “normal” and leave you alone *fingers crossed* Good Luck!

    Dumping

What does it feel like? Well, for me, my heart races, I get super tired/weak, I may barf, or have runs (or both)....basically felt like death (for me). It was always because of sugar and in the early days, the death feelings lasted a more than a couple hours. Now (almost 2 years out), I still get the dumpies, but not as often nor as strong as before (AND i eat way more sugar now than back then). Not everyone dumps, though. P.S. I was sleeved.
  21. It *may* be a bit relevant in the sense that had you NOT lost those 90 lbs pre-surgery, your post-surgery weight loss rate would likely be higher/faster. But dude, congrats on the massive loss!!! You are doing GREAT! ❤️
  22. Mandatory Disclaimer: Everyone loses at different rates! Keep in mind people's starting weight, how much they lost prior to surgery, height, age and gender. Starting weight: 235 (BMI 43.0) Surgery date weight (after 2wk pre-op diet): 223.2 After 7 months of weight loss phase: 127 (BMI 23.2) Sooo…including the 2wk pre-op diet, that would be 108 lbs lost over 7.5 months giving a monthly average weight loss of 14.4 lbs per month. Edited to add: I lost a few more pounds unintentionally during maintenance, gained a few back, and currently sit around 115-117 (BMI 21-21.4). I’ll be 2 years out next month. I'm 5'2".
  23. I didn’t tell anyone except Mr., my daughter, my mom and my BFF. All of whom I know are not ones to discuss my business with anyone else if I asked them not to. For everyone else, I just didn’t/don’t have the comfort level to discuss my WLS, and told them I my eating habits and exercise regimen changed. For the first 6 months or so, it really did get quite annoying how all conversations I had with others who knew me as obese seemed to always centre around my weight. I just said thanks, or gave my standard answer and tried to steer the conversation about them. Most times this worked to get the attention off me. Other times, not so much. At around the 1 year mark, me and my weight became old news and MOST interactions with others were happily non-weight related. At almost 2 years out today, I may still get the occasional question or comment about my weight by those I haven’t seen in a while, and I still give the standard answer. In short, the further out you are and the more people get used to seeing you smaller, the less curiosity from them you will encounter. Yeah, it’s annoying, but it’s only temporary ❤️

    Though times

It gets better. In the first 2 weeks after surgery, I barely took in any calories. I was lucky if I could finish 1/4 of a serving of protein shake in a DAY (with nothing else). I wasn’t hungry and the thought of eating/drinking anything other than warm water make me want to yak. By end of week 3 it got better, and slowly got even better from there. Try to hang in there, its really just a small blip of annoyance in the grand scheme of things...and you get to drop some serious poundage in the process (which hopefully you will be super grateful for later) ❤️ Good Luck!
