When you can't finish your meal
ms.sss replied to BigSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How does this approach contribute to regain, I wonder? I am 2+ years out and I still eat this way. Whatever I can't finish (and if someone in the fam doesn't want to polish it off for me), goes into the fridge for later. I may eat the rest of it in an hour, a few hours, maybe the next day, or the day after that...depending on when I get hungry for it again (and it hasn't gone bad, lol). -
Strange & unexpected changes
ms.sss replied to Arabesque's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Just thought of another one: My hands. I have a pair of super cute mittens that I received as a gift a couple years ago. They were too small, in the sense that the bottom part of my palm would go beyond where they were supposed to. Anyhoo, now they fit fine, which honestly makes no sense to me as I don't understand how the LENGTH of my hand would shrink??? But whatevs, now I am sporting super cute mittens! -
Strange & unexpected changes

LOLolololzzzz...I had to re-read this sentence as at first I was all "What the?? she can see through her eyelids? Or Are her eyelids drooping over her eyeballs??" Then I realized you were talking about looking at yourself in the mirror. Duh. (I'm tired, I really need to go to bed lol). Armpits. They are concave now, so they are so much harder to shave (although there is a lot less to shave as my armlift had removed much of the part that grew armpit hairs!) Head circumference. Hats that were snug or well fitted 2 years ago are now loose and floppy. Back of neck hump. I used to have a fatty piece of flesh at the base of my neck at the back. It made me look like I was jutting my head foward when looking at me from the side. That lump is gone now, and like you, my neck looks longer, and also curvier from the side (at the front too, lol) Stretch Marks/Cellulite. I thought these would be with me forever even after the weight loss, but to my surprise, they are gone (mind you, I did have plastics, so some of that skin may have been cut off, but areas that weren't touched by plastics have dramatically improved: back of legs, side of thighs, lower part of butt). Nose: Everyone I've asked says they see no difference, but *I* do. Its smaller/less wide now. -
Gotta love any opportunity to do some role-playing. Next time you are there, just nod and smile wanly and maybe you can get free coffees for you and Mr. If not, then just a great story to tell later...lolololozzzz

I dunno....I am 2+ years out and still burp an insane amount. Not as ridiculous as the first few months, but still ALOT. (Mind you I do eat/drink alot of gas-inducing items, so maybe if I limited those it would get better...?)

I was on ObesityHelp in the very beginning but stopped as this forum seems to be much more active. There are also Facebook groups that I have read others are members on....
-
Wow, they probably could have put in a bit more effort to make that more clear. Though at first read, I get the impression RnY for morbid obesity is NOT covered. The first bullet seems to eliminate all procedures that aren't bypass or sleeve. The second bullet seems to eliminate bybass specifically (but not sleeve?). Can you post the list of what IS covered? As in "all other provisions as described in your Benefits Provision", and you can do a process of elimination.... P.S. btw I find it weird that the call centre can't just tell you if bypass is covered or not!!!

Favorite Grocery Products
ms.sss replied to ChubRub's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not exactly a Grocery Food Item, but worth looking into, if you drink carbonated water...(wasn't sure where to post this!!) -
I did a quick google, and you can reset your sizing preferences in your profile. You can also delete cookies on your browser for good measure

It's MyFitnessPal. The screenshots I used above are from the desktop version...but I normally use the phone/mobile version 98% of the time.

Anyone have a thigh lift and happy?
ms.sss replied to loridee11's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I beleive @Darktowerdream had a thigh lift and is/was quite happy with it...maybe she can chime in here... In the meantime...I did dabble in thoughts of thigh lifts in the beginning...it was actually 2nd on my wish list when I started considering plastics (my #1 was an arm lift, I've hated my arms all my life, even when I was normal weighted) In the end I decided against it because 1) they didn't bug me as much as other body parts by the time I was ready for plastics 2) my own personal research led me to believe that thigh lifts are one of the more problematic healing areas (as well arm lifts, but I got that done anyway) and 3) my surgeon's opinion was that given the state of my thighs at the time, it would be the least bang for my buck, lol. One very happy side effect of my TT though, was that it smoothed the front of my things quite a bit, and my inner thighs a decent bit, that they don't look so very flappy as they once did. They aren't athelte-firm by any means, but good enough for me. Though if your thighs is #1 on your list, then I would think whatever you need to go through to address them is worth it. My arms were the absolute worst part of my healing process, they are also the thickest darkest scars I have. But I'd do it all again as i LOOOOOOOVE my skinny arms now 😎 -
Food Before and After Photos
ms.sss replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Salad time. Kinda full from the bread, so didn't get very far. It went back in the fridge for later. Romaine, vinaigrette, carrots, cucumber, cheddar, soft boiled egg, imitation crab and masago. 270 cals for the whole thing. -

Food Before and After Photos
ms.sss replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Another year, another batch of yummy food photos! ❤️ Everything looks delicious as usual, but I have to give a special shoutout to @Arabesque...those greens actually MOVED me...lol. Anyhoo...I can't stop making homemade bread because 1) it makes the house smell awesome 2) it gives me an excuse to see fam and friends to make deliveries to and 3) its effing DELICIOUS. Yep, I'm totally eating bread now. Today's first food: a bit of said bread and some HOMEMADE BUTTER. I got curious about how to make butter so googled it and then made Mr. do the muscle work. It's ridiculously delicious. If you are bored and have some arm muscles (or know someone who does)...i totally recommend giving it a try: put heavy cream in a jar and shake "violently" until it separates to butter and buttermilk. estimated at 123 calories for the bread and butter I'm holding shown below. P.S. that is yet ANOTHER bread batch resting for baking later in the background, lol....I have made 12 loaves in the past week. -
Ugh. It certainly does get annoying when people constantly comment on your weight/looks, but even more so when they actually tell you to your face that you are somehow under-performing based on their uninformed opinion. I mean, really. 🙄 Try changing the subject. ...and then come on here, and we can give you a well deserved high five. ✋🏼

Ok,I have mixed feelings about posting my food entries just now...torn between being honest/transparent and fear of influencing someone negatively. I've decided that we are all adults and can make decisions for ourselves. So pls use whatever info you see on here wisely and safely for YOU. With that said, I thought I would post a food entry for exactly one year after the series above, just to show what eating looked like for me a year later (back in May of this year). I pretty much eat on average 1800 cals a day now (more if I exercise more).

Apologize in advance...this is long! LOL, after typing it all out, I see its alot. Sorry! Gonna ask: why do you think you are doing anything wrong? 26 lbs lost in 6 weeks is about average...you are actually doing just fine! Further, losing inches is probably more preferable than losing weight, honestly, lol. I think I may value mobility and looking great in a pair of jeans vs the number on the scale these days. While these forums are a great source of info (good and bad) and camaraderie, one of the downsides of it is that leads people to compare themselves with others. For purposes of getting info/opinions/options, its all good, but when reading about others journey's makes one feel bad about themselves or towards others, then this is not helpful to you at all, right? I don't really have an easy solution to this issue, as it is ALWAYS around, but I am in a mood this morning and feel like I need to put it out there. I read too many posts about people feeling bad these days. Try to be kind to yourself no matter what anyone else is doing. I know, I know, its easy to say.... With that said, to your main question: So....for info purposes, I am posting some screenshots of what a 500-600 cal per day looked like for me. Here are 7 consecutive days of food logs when I was about 6.5 months post-op. I also want to say that throughout weight loss phase, I probably ate on the lower end of the range of average calories eaten based on what I have read on forums. I also want to say that I did not feel like I was starving at any point. The amount of food that I was taking in was enough for ME. I had tones of energy, all my labs came back with no issue, and I was never struggling mentally with wanting to eat more. I say this because not everyone would be as comfortable as I was at this calorie level (though there are those that are), and if you are not comfy, then by all means, don't do it. Eat at a deficit level that you can handle.

Ok, so I've technically been in maintenance for 1.5 years now. Not counting the first 2 months immediately after stopping weight loss phase (when I lost 12 lbs trying to find my sweet spot), I have basically maintained my current weight +/- 5 lbs the entire time. I have loosened the reins quite a bit since weight loss days. Fruit: I am not a big fruit eater, but if presented with something that looks good, I'll eat it. I don't have any off limit fruits, but I don't eat much in the first place anyway...mostly just as a topping on a salad. I hate fruit juice. Oh, but I LOOOOVE avocados, which I probably have 1-2 times a week (again, mostly as a topping on a salad) Vegetables: I eat all sorts of veggies all the time/every day...with the exception of potatoes. Refined Sugar: I long ago opened the floodgates to sugar consumption. Dessert is a legitimate food group for me. Other processed carbs: I still stay away from rice, pasta, and bread. HOWEVER, I recently discovered the joy of homemade bread making, and have actually had maybe the equivalent of 2 slices of bread this past week or so. Since it was so delicious, I'm going to keep eating it. I still log my food, but I no longer put as much concern on the type of calorie I consume (to a certain extent), I mostly really only pay attention to my total calories now. So if I eat a cookie or a carrot or some of the ridiculously yummy homemade bread, so long as I stay under 1800 cals (more if I'm exercising more), then it's all good. I will say though, that I gained and lost 6 lbs TWICE this year...and when I was trying to lose, I did pay attention to the type of calorie. Once I reached my happy place again, I am back to just monitoring total calories.

Do you ever get to the point of eating like a normal person?
ms.sss replied to Jaye W's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same here. Albeit, I eat much slower than them (and I don't drink while I eat).
