Can I afford the post-op diet?
New&Improved replied to sheslittletex's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I agree with everyone I've been keeping my eye on specials on multivitamins and protein powder I've also noticed TUNA is great and cheap to buy and alot of protein very good for you as little as 80c for a small 90gm serving which would probably be one meal and under 100calories per tin. Find things that are really high protein and cheap to buy in bulk once you find a certain product you will definitely start to notice the savings every week. If you can go to local markets find cheap fruit and vegetables also. Go to Costco or ALDI and buy in bulk to save $$$ -
So 15 months to goal weight. Where did you start at mate? And I agree it's best to stay away from too much carbs

No weight loss 11 days after bypass
New&Improved replied to Gundy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Is she following the diet to the letter? No sneaking food when nobody is around? Maybe join a gym or walking group to help activity. If it continues go see the doctor -

100 lbs in under a year?
New&Improved replied to mousecat88's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
All it takes is sticking to a strict diet and exercise as often as you can. Don't expect to go back to junk food and still lose weight... I've already been looking at different websites for the best food and best way to get high protein as the guy said earlier if you can live off protein shakes go for it there's no reason to eat junk or empty calories! -
Very good what surgery did you do glad to hear you're going well hear many stories of complications but think some people just very unwell
-
Was this from day 1.. multivitamin are easy to find but I haven't seen 3000 B12 yet only 1000-1500 in my local shops. But it's a small price to pay for the benefits of the bypass!!

Done really well. 70 in 7 months that's 10lb a month.

Please help I'm confused I want bypass because I've heard it's the best most efficient for max weight loss and fix co morbidities and diabetes. I have to lose at least 140lbs in under a year I hope.. currently 320lbs need to be 180-185lbs as I'm 183CM tall. I'm a man mid 30s struggle with hunger cravings all the time. I'm curious what benefits of sleeve over RNY BYPASS? I know one of them helps with hunger hormones is that correct???

Laura's RNY Journey; Age 31 Starting Weight 365
New&Improved replied to Laura7's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Okay I'm going to try not to sound rude but I was amazed you were eating solids so soon after surgery number 1; number 2 you were eating alot of processed food that usually have hidden fat and sugar regardless of how much protein and number 3 I think your calorie intake is high for someone with a proper RNY bypass because your stomach is 1/8 original size first of all I've spoken to numerous other people and they're lucky to need more than 500-600 calories plus you should be looking at foods with low carbs high protein! I'm unsure if you're unable to cook or not but I think you should invest in more fresh fruit and vegetables and no more tortilla or cheese at all. I'm sorry if I'm being blunt but I feel you need help. I did a major gym and diet regime myself back in 2012 and I was able to lose 100lbs on my own in 6 months that's going to the gym every single day. Cutting out all sugars bad fat low carbs and high protein very strict nothing processed everything fresh prepared myself everyday. Obviously life happened and I'm back up to 320 so I'm going for the RNY bypass this year just to help me long term I don't mean to sound rude but I feel you don't have much information in regards to healthy choices. If you're unhappy with your progress then I'm be serious you need to be more strict with your foods and intake. Did you get the full bypass is meant to cause malabsorption so your body doesn't absorb all calories but alot of your food I saw was processed so just be a little careful and read the labels very closely. I know when I finally get approved for RNY BYPASS I'll be very strict everything fresh again i plan to lose 140lbs within 12 months to get to 185 by my next birthday after the surgery. Be positive. -
Gastric Sleeve at Age 18
New&Improved replied to ewinky's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First of all you're a beautiful girl.. And congratulations on the 150lbs and to have the strength to do a surgery at 18; I'm going for RNY this year but I'll be 35; I wish I knew about this 10 years ago! I'm at my highest weight right now of 320 back 6 years I got down to 200lbs and felt amazing everyone treated me different. Life was great but life also eventually put my back up to 300lbs and had some serious family issues lately back to 320lbs the past 12 months but stabilised that weight and finally got PHI sorted and started saving up I'm done being unhealthy and obese I've made the mental goal to get this surgery this year once my 12 months is up because I'm Australia our insurance just stipulates we have to be a member for 12 months minimum before they will help pay for surgery. I'll still end up with out of pocket maybe 5k but it's much better than 25k they quoted without insurance.... -
Oh ok that's fine I was worried about malabsorption with my current medications but would be fine. I'm just getting anxious for RNY but still have to wait a while for my PHI to get to 12 months

Looking for a surgery buddy;
New&Improved replied to lilDanille's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm very honest and smug "thank you for your concern" -
Yes lap band is old technology if you can get the RNY go for it. I've heard many people being converted from VSG to RNY anyway
-
I've been looking at local vitamins you get in supermarkets multivitamins? Why chewable I take tablets 3x a day everyday as it is? I can't stop taking my medication just because of surgery???

BMI Goal: is your BMI goal to be healthy or overweight?
New&Improved replied to jultrim18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
BMI is not a good way to go. BMI does not take into account each person's DNA and body structure and build. I've done the BMI for my goal weight and yes it still says obese my goal weight is right on the edge of healthy but I know for a fact I'd be very unhealthy if I was in the lower range BMI healthy I'd have to lose a further 20lbs below my goal weight. I'm currently 320 but I'm big bone and 6ft or 183cm I know for a fact my perfect range is 180-190 but 180 is healthy but 190 is obese which is dumb because I know 180 is probably lowest I'd want to be.... BMI calculator shows my goal of 180 as right at the end of the healthy range....... -
Thank you for the explanation I understand completely we have to change our whole life around to eat better not to go back to the bad food.

After gastric bypass surgery, how long after that do u have to stay on a liquid diet
New&Improved replied to Dorothy stewart's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Longer the better I feel so that your new stomach can have plenty of time to heal and adjust. Last thing you want is to stretch it before it's ready... -
Going in for bypass coming out with a sleeve done
New&Improved replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That's why in Australia at least the Dr put you on a preop diet of no liquids using optifast protein shakes which will decrease the size of organs before surgery.. -

I completely understand when things get tough and stress takes over you want to indulge. I understand where you're coming from I have similar issues and have to understand once the operation happens you can never really have those old foods you crave. Have to change your whole life style but it's worth it in the end....
