Insurance not covering bariatric surgeries
New&Improved replied to Sonyawon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm also in Australia. I ONLY got insurance to pay for the WLS but even after everything I'll still be out of pocket around 4K not including vitamins etc But at least we don't seem to have any hoops just have to be the right BMI to get insurance cover. I've spoken to people who have only had 2 consultations with surgeon and had surgery all within 2 months! But there are some that require psychologists and Dietician but not all thank God. We have the choice! Your health insurance in the USA acts like car or home insurance and seems to do everything not to pay up! -

New Job Offer, planned surgery
New&Improved replied to Bootscraper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go for it, being medical it's not pertinent to your job. It's personal. I think there's no onus on you to disclose everything. And you may find that you only need 2 weeks maybe even less and as said above if you're moving within your department than your work records will follow you and you may be owed sick leave Also if you feel the new job is better for you and your future and your mental state than go for it because your job will definitely impact on your success in all aspects of life!! -

Changed mind about WLS?
New&Improved replied to Panda333's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you spend half your life obese and deal with the stares and society and go through not getting anyone to share life with then add on the health issues as we get older then WLS is a great tool. Most of us on here have been through many diets and disappointments. It's not usually losing the weight that is the issue it's keeping it off and keeping on track. I may have said this before but back in 2012 I did lose a good amount 90lbs in 6 months it was amazing first time in my adult life of being only 200lbs was so good meet a few girls had a good time for a YEAR... Then fwd a few years and put it all back on plus 20lbs okay so personally as I get closer to 40 (35 this year; where did the past 10yrs go?) I've made this BIG decision to put myself through WLS and start a new life a new lifestyle and a new future! It is a huge decision not to be taken lightly! -
How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?
New&Improved replied to NotActive1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
See you had your own personal"reasons" for going with the sleeve and that's your prerogative. I have no fear of surgery and I believe bypass will give me better results in the long run and I'd rather my inside be rerouted than having 80% of my stomach thrown in the bin thank you. I want the restriction,I need the malabsorption, I want the dumping so I'll never want to go near any junk food again! So yes it is an individual choice and I'll keep going until I find the dr who agrees with me with my bmi being over 40 RNY is my best choice I want to do it right and once only..not have multiple surgeries. I hope you don't suffer from reflux or GERD and good luck. -

How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?
New&Improved replied to NotActive1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is there any major reason why the bypass may not be done otherwise it seems like the surgeon is not confident I know what I want and I will be telling the Dr if he says otherwise I'll find another doctor. Good luck with it all -

Anyone else obsessed with My 600 lb Life?
New&Improved replied to 49Nash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well these people sign a contract to get their surgery paid for and to be on the show but yes I think most reality shows are somewhat exploitative and exaggerated drama for ratings! That's television! -

Changed mind about WLS after pre-op diet?
New&Improved replied to Panda333's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
As above WLS is a very serious commitment, a huge decision not to be taken lightly. It's totally up to the individual if you choose surgery or not. Also as above most of us have spent years dealing with diets and yoyo-ing with weight loss and hit a brick wall to where there's no other option but to invest in WLS and a whole new way of life!! Like most people I've been researching all the different surgeries and complications and the good vs the bad for months now! When you've been through 20 years dealing with weight issues and body image and social cruelty and going through school life being put down and never having a real girlfriend then WLS is definitely a serious option so that I can finally get my life back on track and live longer! It is definitely not an easy or simple process at all.. Tnx -

How is MGB different to RNY help
New&Improved replied to New&Improved's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I understand the procedural difference just wondering is there any difference in calorie absorption or vitamins needed? Any difference in the size of pouch? Any difference in weight loss? If they do the same overall what's the reason for one or the other? -
Okay please tell me DS is also known as loop or MGB or SIPS am I right? Why are people saying that surgery is better weight loss in very curious if people can give me the scientific reasoning or personal experience??? All I can find is information showing bad bile reflux with the DS/MGB They both sound similar RNY or DS??? I'M THINKING ABOUT RNY but maybe someone can convince me otherwise before I choose surgeon!!
-
One girl in particular the whole process only took 2 months from initial appointment to surgery so that's pretty good
-
That's fine just doing as much research as I can until I get close enough to see the surgeons here I've got two choices here and I will go speak with them both when I get closer to my cut off date and see what they offer, what their process is, but I've spoke to a few locals and they say all I would need is 2-3 meetings with surgeon and maybe a dietitian that's it then a 2-3 week optifast diet for the surgery! Can't wait just takes time!
