    Sleeve or RNY

Getting closer everyday my mind is kind of set on RNY but been seeing some good numbers I vsg lately... Thought I'd ask first hand how people recovered after surgery? Did your hunger go away? Was there much restriction? What are people losing say 6 month post op? I think VSG is less invasioe and easier recovery?? Tnx
  2. I've been going through the motions and I'm 3 months away from my 12 months cut off so getting excited yet anxious. Will be seeing surgeon finally In 3 weeks to discuss in depth the whole procedure and I guess finalize a surgery date either 30 sep or 14th October. They only do surgery one day a week here at Ashford Adelaide Australia. I've been told I may have bloods done but after that I need to see a dietitian to discuss the preop diet and then next time I see surgeon will be on the surgery day and I'll have 2 nights maybe 3 in the private hospital which will be NICE.. If all goes well I'm so excited been researching the procedure for like a year now and choose RNY BYPASS over the others mostly because of my diabetes and high sugar levels but because I need to lose 125+lbs to be healthy bmi but also be fit and healthy for the first time in many years. I'm single and no kids so I can concentrate on myself 100% and hope that I'll be ready to take control of my life with the help of the bypass tool. I'm be 35 next month and I want to be a brand new man Well before I'm 40!!! Then look towards the future to meet someone start a family and pass on all my new found knowledge to my children so they can live healthy lives... Just felt like giving a little update/vent/rant... Thanks guys Mike

    Sleeve or RNY

Sorry to hear you when through so much trouble in my mind I think RNY bypass is more restrictive and has better long term numbers

    Protein during clear liquids

Invest in protein powder that way you can make your own shakes. Add it to things like yoghurt. Add it to water.

Eating out or at others homes...

Try to find the best alternatives when eating out. Ask the waiter what's in the meal they may be able to change it to suit you. Going to friends pack your own food or take a shake with you to fill you up so you don't need to eat much

    Pre-op and obsessed?

Been watching 600lb life for years but it makes sense I'm the same I've spent 100s of hours on this site and others reading and learning as I'm waiting.. IT makes sense once people have the surgery they may drop off the site a little too be fully involved in their own mission, they may feel good doing it on their own but I'm sure they know if the need arises they can get good advice from the veterans! Personally I read to gauge how others are doing and to get inspiration from others that are going well.!!
  12. Thanks for kind words.. I'm super excited.. I always get anxious no matter what but I'm more than ready for a new life.. Healthy life. Skinny life
  13. I'm curious to like how long will it take to fill up our bladder if we can only sip water??

    REGRET

I don't understand? What's there to feel bad about? You made a decision to better yourself. Tp change your life and to get healthy. You've made the right choice just take it day by day. It's not the end of the world.

    DS statistics

There's tons of information out there. DS is the most restrictive. Malabsorption surgery available. High weight loss. High success rates but there's greater chance of vitamin deficiency and anemia issues. Google is your friend!

    What was your moment?

After a good 10 years dealing with life and alcoholism I finally gave it up and once my mind was clear of alcohol I noticed geez I'm in my 30s and over 300lbs.. I don't want to still be fat and unhealthy at 40.. I need to make a change and I found surgery will help me greatly in getting my life back on track...

A tale of two gastric sleeve patients

Yes I agree I lost about 90lbs in 2012 99% of that on exercise bike. Yes I got to a good weight but I was just skin and bones no muscle definition or tone at all. I now know this time with surgery and weight loss to include some form of weights machines..

    Pre-OP Diet Blues

You are so right if you're worried about missing out on certain foods then you're not ready for surgery. You're not ready for a new life or a better life. I'm going for the RNY myself and hope that food becomes just fuel and I lose the cravings. I want to eat only to live. I want to lose the diabetes and live a good life and never eat junk again!!!

When can I have some rice? Lol

The way I understand it is; Once the surgery happens you have 6-12months period where you take advantage of the surgery top Get the best possible results in that time frame. From preop onwards is your time to make the most out of the surgery and not to take it lightly. People wonder why the lose only a small amount those are the people who think they can just go easy with their diet where you have others who go hard from day 1 to maximise their results.. Think about it carefully the surgery had the most effect for maybe 6 or 12 months then its up to you to maintain not to go back to bad foods not to slack off just because you hit your goal! Surgery and healthy lifestyle is not a fad it's a life long change. There's nothing wrong with a small snack once a month maybe but telling someone they can eat whatever they like after surgery to me is IRRESPONSIBLE!
  22. Be careful of certain products that claim to be healthy..check for sugars and fats

When can I have some rice? Lol

That's very vague Just giving a person who has had issues with food choices free reign post op there needs to be guidelines or you'll end up back where you started and then blame the DR
