Hello everyone! I was banded in April in Alabama. So far so good. Hit a small plateau, but had a fill, started karate and now things are back on track!

Help--what is consider mushie foods
corry1 replied to mamalovell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you can mush it with a fork, it is a mushy food. Just stay away from stringy foods. You think they are mushy, but they can cause problems-- like asparagus. Some mellons still bother me from time to time. -
glue instead of stitches
corry1 replied to jess187's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was glued also. I healed great and was able to shower earlier than w/ out the glue. I still had stitches, but you could not see them. -
I was banded with tricare on April 3rd. I paid $500 total to my dr. The claim is still in process, but everything looks ok so far. I will keep you posted.

What mushies do you/did you eat?
corry1 replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
scrambled eggs, pimento cheese, cottage cheese, mashed potato-- those all worked for me and helped me get my protein w/o the protein shakes--yuk! -

This is totally worth it. You will be feeling great very soon. I, like you, did not tell many people what I was doing. I have opened up more in the past week and everyone has been very supportive-- try telling your freinds, you might be surprised at the support you get. As for weight loss, everyone varies. Start walking and I bet it will melt off quickly at your age. You have a great life ahead of you free from extra weight-- look forward to it and enjoy it.

I have heard that scar tissue can be a problem. I had a hernia and the dr repaired it while he was in there doing the band. I feel great and am off Nexium for 1st time in 5 years. I would asked for a 2nd oppinion. How many bands has this dr done? There may be other options. I would ask more questions before opting for bypass.

I think that is natural. I just think about the things that I have not been doing because I was just too big or uncomfortable. That makes me so mad to be missing out on life. The lifestyle change was a worry too. I had my surgery 4-3. I havn't had a fill yet, but have already lost around 30 lbs. The difference is 2 pants sizes. People who see me and do not know what I have done keep looking at me and saying "you look great" or "you are so pretty". It feels great! I think most people have reservations about the future, but the future is now something for you to look forward to even more! Good Luck!

How much food could you eat...
corry1 replied to COSkinnyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a fill yet either. Today was my first day to add something to my "mushy" foods. I had crab legs at a catered event tonight and could not eat an entire king crab leg. I am full and think I should not be able to eat so much. I am also going to follow the ww plan. Good luck w/ yours and let me know how it is going for you. -
One Month Post Op - Need a Fill & Port Pain
corry1 replied to ErikMesa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 4-3. My dr is a little more strict on diet- I just started mushy foods on Thursday. I go back on the 12th, but don't know if I will get a fill. I am staying pretty full. -
OK - still feeling crappy Day 5 - HELP
corry1 replied to BSWhip08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry. I felt crappy for about 5 days too. Then I started feeling better in my stomach area, but was increadibly tired until I could start on full liquid diet. You can only hold so many calories when you are on clear liquids-- your body does not have much energy to work with. Stay positive, it will pass soon. my stomach was very tight for about 7 or 8 days-- walking helps. Also, I found it more comfortable to sleep in a recliner for about a week-- less of that funky feeling. Good luck! -
Second thoughts about Lap Band.
corry1 replied to celticdreamer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my band done about 3 wks ago and am down 30 lbs already. The band can get you there, but it will take longer and more committment on your part. However, the band is safer, adjustable, and reversable.--- you are stuck with bypass. My aunt had bypass about 6 years ago. She has gained back most of the weight because she did not change her lifestyle and is considering getting banded. This is a very personal decision. I made it looking at long term results and risk factors. Good luck! -
The gas in the shoulders is rough. Walking really helped me. Also, if you have a neck wrap that you can heat in the microwave, that helps. If not, a slightly damp towel heated in the microwave would work. I also found that sleeping in a recliner helped. Good luck. It does not last much longer.

Help understand my blood test results...please!
corry1 replied to Startingover!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy, I can't help a lot with the blood work except for looks like you may be a little anemic. I had lapband with tricare ins on April 3rd. I tend to be a little anemic and the best advice I have picked up to date is to use a chewable Vitamin with Iron ( like Flinstones). I started that 3 weeks after surg and it has made a difference in my energy level. Good luck. Corry
