Any foods you can never eat again???
sassy&happy replied to ratgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bread is always a no-no for me now. I have even tried toast! -

Did not end up having to self pay but at the time when it inquired about cost I was quoted approximately $15,000. I live in Tennessee.

I eat cottage cheese with fruit and I use the low carb canned fruit (can't think of the brand right now....) I think its Dole??? I do sprinkle a little splenda on the fruit and its tolerable to me, gives me a little sweet treat :heh:

Tidge--I think I had pain similar to what you are experiencing. I am 4 wks post op. I experienced pain like that immediately following surgery and did up until last week as well. I said it felt like the pain/cramp you get after swimming. I had my gallbladder removed a month prior to my banding so my surgeon told me it was probably pain from the first surgery and nothing to worry about. Mine was so bad that I could not sleep at night without rolling a pillow up to put under my side. I would take my pain meds to help out with it and it seems to be better now but I noticed it again after I exercised yesterday. -
How Do You Take Medications?
sassy&happy replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My Dr. told me not to try to swallow anything larger than a birth control pill. They advised me to crush pills and open capsules so that is what I have been doing but I don't take medication daily outside of bc. I take Nexxium occasionally but haven't since being banded. My pain med after banded was in liquid form. I have heard from other bandsters that once you get filled that you can't swallow pills but usually can before but I never tried it!!! -
Hi--I have BCBS of Alabama & I was approved for "Laparascopy, surgical gastric restrictive procedure; placement of adjustable gastric band and subcutaneous port components." Which is what my approval letter said. I previously tried in Sept 05 and was denied advising that I needed a 6 mo supervised weight loss plan. I had no co-morbidities except for the fact that I started having ankle swelling after I began to exercise with a trainer. I did the 6 mo diet and my Dr's ofc resubmitted me and I was approved. However they did indicate that benefits for complications or subsequent surgery will not be covered. They will also not cover any related office visits or fills. Its not the best thing but not the worst, they did pay for my surgery. Good luck to you keep trying and appeal!!

I told my boyfriend, mother, and a close friend. My father would die if he knew!! I felt like since the proces is slower than the bypass that nobody would think anything especially since I am on a diet every other week anyway and have been for years! They might figure I finally stuck with something!

:clap2: Elisabeth-- I too am like you I think. Please let me know how you feel after your first fill. I am nervous about it but my first one is not until June 21st. I am looking forward to feeling the restriction!!

Wow!! I am so glad I visited today! I am 5 days post-op and I myself said the same thing for the first 2-3 days!! What have I done???:think I thought I was abnormal because I know 4 people personally that have been banded and all 4 said they were up and running around the following day with no pain (just soreness) and only used their pain meds that first night!! I was miserable and in a considerable amount of pain too. Glad that I am not alone!! Thanks you guys for all the info it really made me feel better but as most of you said each day seems to be getting better and easier!

Hello all! I am attempting to get approved to have lap band surgery and was denied once due to a requirement by my insurance for a 6 mo medically supervised weight loss plan. Now that I completed that and am ready to be resubmitted I have been having chest pain. Went to the Dr and have had all pertinent tests only to learn that it was some blockage in my esophagus (caused by acid) from reflux. I also have a hiatal hernia. I have been prescribed Nexxium and told that the problem should be cleared up in approx a month. I am frantic!! I know this can't be a good thing as far as the band goes. Will this interfere or cause further problems does anyone know? Will this eliminate me from being a candidate for the lap band? I don't know what to do and don't know if I should advise the bariatric surgeon or just let them submit me to the insurance co and see what happens. Help!! :help:
