Why are you crushing your meds? I went straight to pill form on post-op day 2. Did your surgeon tell you to? (mine said I could take pills just fine)
-
Awesome! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

So I’ve moved on to smooth consistency food today. It’s amazing how quickly I fill up. The best thing I ate today was 1/4 cup of mashed potato with a scoop of genepro protein (30 grams) and a tablespoon of salsa.
-
Think about the fact that you won’t be able to eat it after. So why bother eating it now?

I’m doing quite well. I walked 70+ laps before discharge and worked all my gas out. I’m post op day 3 today. I was able to take 75 oz today (between water, protein shakes and power aid zero) I also tried 10 spoonfuls of cream of chicken soup that my nutritionist recommended. That filled me up quickly. The pain has all but left, and Tylenol is all that I need now. (There is still quite a bit of visceral pain that is very positional though, but it’s very tolerable)

So sorry you're having such a trial with nausea! Hang in there!

I had the fifth hole simply because of my starting weight. He said afterwards though, he could have done it with four, since I followed the preop diet so well, my liver almost didn't need a retractor.

I know I personally always wanted to see what the scars looked like after surgery. I am post op day 3 and this is what my scars look like.

Day 2 post op. I’ve been home since yesterday. This is no joke. I know the pain will get better, but right now I do not want to touch any water or protein drinks

So man. What a day! Surgery went text book according to surgeon. I was on the table for 55min. He told me it was obvious that I had rocked the preop diet, as he could have likely done the surgery without a liver retractor. I was in recover for about 2 hours because I kept going apneic on the pain meds, so they had to keep the doses low, which sucked. Once I got back to the room, and got on my personal CPAP machine things progressed much better. I’m on icechips only until tomorrow morning. Let me tell yah. The dry mouth is no joke! I did 10 laps around the floor I’m on 1 hour after arriving to my room. Since then I’ve done between 8-15 laps every hour I was awake. (I slept for a few hours) All the people that told you walking is the only thing that helps gas pain? Listen to them! I’ve attached a pic of my ugly mug after walking the floor for 15 laps. Best wishes to everyone! I’ll update when They advance my diet.

Numbness in Outer Right Thigh After Surgery
VSGDavid replied to Lazarus Bishop's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Meralgia paresthetica look that up. It’s likely a pinched nerve. Weight loss and weight redistribution will likely fix it. Ask your doc if you’re worried! -
Day 6 of my 10 day pre-op diet. 4 more full days of liquid before I go NPO at midnight the night before surgery! Liquid has been a real challenge for me in the evenings. Coming home from work and smelling the dinner my wife has prepared is really hard. (I have 4 kids, there really isn't an option not to have smells in the house) Not much longer! This will be totally worth it.

Apprehensive Nurse, any other healthcare folks?
VSGDavid posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I've been lurking on the forums for quite some time now. I thought I would introduce myself. I am a 39 year old male, and will be having my first appointment with my surgeon next week. I've jumped all the hoops, had the classes, psych evals, etc. Sadly my insurance specifically excludes WLS, so I am paying out of pocket. I've decided that it will be worth it though! After my appointment with my surgeon next week, I'll start a two week liquid diet, and then have surgery. Being a nurse, I've been in the OR, I've seen how violent surgery can be up close, even when using davinci machines for laproscopic surgery. I'm having a hard time not freaking out about all the potential issues that could crop up. I've read just about every research paper I could find on gastric sleeve, so I know the risks are fairly low, but man, it's so hard being on the other side! Any other healthcare folks out there find that knowing as much as we do makes this process more difficult? I mean, I have taken care of patients my surgeon has operated on. So I fully know what to expect post op, I think I'm just excited, and scared all rolled into one. -
Anyone scheduled for December yet?
VSGDavid replied to kx2ax5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also December 4th! Which also happens to be the day before my 40th birthday! -
You don't stretch your pouch out. According to my surgeon, it will get slightly larger over time, but only slightly.
-
Yep! I start my liquid diet saturday, surgery is december 4th
-
I'm late to the party with well wishes, so perhaps by the time you read this, you will need some well wishes for a speedy recovery!
-
Oh man! Pre-Op is tomorrow! Have a full day of blood work, upper GI, classes and more! *excited*

Spectacular. Keep up the good work! You look wonderful. I bet you're a lot more comfortable!
