I should have just shut my mouth....
VSGDavid replied to saramelie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ok. So I know you’re frustrated. It let me tell you what I did. I also have BED. My program required me to see a psych for approval. Being in the medical field I already knew they would be looking for eating disorders. I lied to my psych. I chose the right answers on the paperwork that led to an outcome that had the psychiatrist approve my surgery. in 2018 I had VSG. Lost 170 pounds. in march of 2020 I started regaining. (Yay Covid) Once I started regaining my BED kicked in and I regained 70 pounds. In short trust the process work through your BED and know that you aren’t to blame for being truthful. I which I had been. -

7 Years after VSG Gastric Sleeve Weight Gain/Loss
VSGDavid replied to JinnChan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep. I had surgery in 2018. Lost 172 pounds. March 2020 hit and I started regaining. I regained 60# of the weight I lost. I’m back on the road to fixing it now (16# lost from highest regain) I kept telling myself it’s not that bad. It’s only 10#. And it kept snowballing. Very discouraging, but it happens. -

Does anyone eat Protein bars instead of protein drink?
VSGDavid replied to BQT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, working out being very active makes a huge difference here. -

VSGDavid replied to BQT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't, they're much too heavy, and the number of calories is a huge turn off. -
Everyone does. Your weightloss will not be a steady burn, it will come in fits and starts. You will go weeks sometimes without losing anything, and then drop a bunch all at once.

Not so easy to make friends here...

In a word? Consistent I've had stalls, some as long as 3-4 weeks, but it always flips back around to going the right way! -
Happy Scale. LOVE. IT. I think it is the best weight tracking/motivation app I've ever used... and I've used them all.. lol

People tend to post a TON before surgery, a little bit after surgery, and then very rarely after that. It's just the nature of how this works I think. Good luck on your surgery!! -
What’s the reason why we can’t lift?
VSGDavid replied to Elisibeth777's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would direct this question to your surgeons office. Not a random group of strangers on the internet. I say that as an RN with a Masters degree in the field. -
What’s the reason why we can’t lift?
VSGDavid replied to Elisibeth777's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Short answer: This is a question for your surgeon. Slightly longer answer: Your abdominal wall muscles are still healing. You do not want to stress them, break them back open, and end up with a hernia at one of your incision sites. -
I'm a huge fan of Stronglifts 5x5. You see a TON of progress in the beginning as a newbie lifter.

Start weight lifting. It won't be immediate, but it will be noticeable in time, especially as you lose more weight.

3 months post op and I hit a stall
VSGDavid replied to Naya.G's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stop looking at the scale. Live your new life, keep walking your steps, hitting your water and protein goals. The weight will come off. It is NOT a linear loss. I have WEEKS where I lose nothing, and then all of a sudden I'll lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks. -
Hunger and working out
VSGDavid replied to elmatador's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walk 4 miles every morning, and then go to the gym for an hour and do the stair machine/elliptical. And alternate weight lifting. So I totally get you on the hunger. The way I combat this is to add 21 more grams of protein on the days when I lift weights. For me this is in the form of real food, not shakes. (2 eggs, and 3 strips of bacon) That gives me enough staying power through the day, and I don't feel like I'm super hungry.
