Differences in postop diets when having surgery "overseas"
%^& replied to elcee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The comment was about liability, not if it ours was better. As far as safer, follow up care in the US is what you get vs having things done in Mexico, or overseas, which I believe makes it safer, in many instances. Of course there may be some follow up care with some non-US surgeons, though I know firsthand how detrimental and dangerous zero follow-up care can be after such a surgery. -
Oooo those are the kind of fibs I'm going to need, lol. I Can't wait to make this custard! Thank you!!!

Hey I responded but I guess it didn't submit? Oh well. Thank you for your concern. I wish I could get out of it but I know I just can't. I will have some help with the turkey and fixins (teenagers, husband, whipcrack...)but the thing that scares me the most is them (extended family) noticing that I won't be eating much (WAAA) of anything and the conversation that might transpire from it.. I LOVE crab and would love your pumpkin custard recipe maybe? That may be something I could have! Thanks again for your reply ❤️

Do you have a Treat, what is it, and how often.

If I do one a day, then no prob. But, back in the day... before my surgery, whilst doing WW, I snuck a whole bunch of sugar free chocolate into the movies. Oh, I enjoyed them very much...until I got home. ..and good thing I made it home, lol let's just say I understand the consequences 😀 Thanks for the warning all the same;) -

Thank you so much for sharing this. I will look for the healthier version lol and WOW about the carb thing! That is fascinating, and good news/insight. It greatly encourages me. :-) , as it is done in great moderation of course and as you indicated. That is the beauty of this, I think. That we can have these things in such small amounts and be completely happy, not wanting more...YAY!!! 🎉😂😍 -
I think you should contact your surgeon if you are still in pain. ASAP and let us know how you are please.

Had my post op appt. Sleeved 10/23 and he said I can have Thanksgiving turkey!,( ..if its pureed..) WAAAA! And still pureed stage until 4 weeks. And I'm cooking for the family (meaning extended family also...WAAAA again :*( How will I survive??? I'm not telling anybody, lol ::meaning, I'm not telling my family about my surgery...😲 gasp

I don't plan on developing bad habits; I don't feel that a very small bit of chocolate even on a daily basis would be a bad habit. It would be less calories than the protein bar, just without the protein, though I do like your idea of the protein bar to reach that protein goal used occasionally. What brand do you like? I think I will try the sugar free version PB cup also as long as they come in the tiny piece that I have in mind. Thanks for your thoughts. -

I had the same thing happen to me when I started the puree stage Tues!!! I lost the 1st week, then as soon as I started the soups, weight went up. I'm pretty sure this happened because I was not aware of the sodium content I was consuming, which I was not the 1st week. Today, finally, the scale budged again after trying to correct the sodium for a few days, and tmi I pooped, lol was weighing 1 pound less. It will sort out and your losses will come, but I think the changes in the stages will cause the weight to fluctuate and that can be discouraging, so hang tight you have a loss on the way. Mine happened just in time for my post op appt tomorrow! whew

This list is great!!! Thank you Spellbound

Hiya err...umm... can we tawk?... Sleeved 10/23. Everybody poops, just not me, yet. Am I ok? Just started the soups, still no poops. My weight might go down if I could.

Differences in postop diets when having surgery "overseas"
%^& replied to elcee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Which is why I said in my post "Maybe their methods are different as to where the solid foods would not pose as much of a threat that I am not aware of, but as for us here, in the US, for the most part, I think the post op regimen is mostly the same." -
So sorry you are feeling this way! Are you having nausea? I had nausea real bad. Also at first you may not handle the liquids as well because everything is still swollen and it just needs time to heal. Small sips my friend and nausea meds, and for the gas, for me I took 2 chewable Gas-X tabs along with a bit of walking; that really helped me. The first week can be a bit rough but it starts to get much much better by week 2; for me days 3 and 4 being the worst. That being said, I did still suffer a bit of nausea and gas pain the second week, just knew how to handle it better. I realized that I needed to take my vitamin only after I had soup or something in my stomach; I had given up trying to get the vitamins down for that 1st week. Hang in there and know you may not get your fluid goal met right at first, just do the best you can. Hugs

Differences in postop diets when having surgery "overseas"

If one has it done where there is literally zero liability about what happens after surgery, that might be why there is so much more freedom. Thank goodness there is liability in the US. Most US surgeons agree and warn all their patients the difference between the sleeve and the band is this: that if you eat the wrong food with a lap-band, you vomit. If you ignore the stages and instructions you receive with the sleeve after surgery and eat the wrong foods, you die. Rupturing the staple line can be fatal, and it makes sense because it really needs that time to heal completely after such a life altering surgery. There is a reason that if someone decides to eat chicken during stage 2 that they cannot tolerate it. Maybe their methods are different as to where the solid foods would not pose as much of a threat that I am not aware of, but as for us here, in the US, for the most part, I think the post op regimen is mostly the same. Just my thoughts. -
So there is an article on this site about the Premier Protein Shakes and the protein content being bunk. I have been living on these pre op and up until the soup phase just this week, and am still drinking them just because I have them. But it worries me that I and others may suffer from the lack of protein if the protein content is not accurate, which is supposed to be 30 grams per shake. Things like hairloss because of a protein deficit. Anyone else using Premier? What kind should I switch to? Here is the article: https://www.bariatricpal.com/magazine/701-premier-protein-–-not-premier-for-bariatric-patients/

The article says "less than 1% of the product is “whey protein concentrate.” Whey protein is the type of protein that you should be looking for because it absorbs more quickly than casein." In stage 1 the liquid phase, it is hard to get your protein from any other sources besides the fact that I bought so much of it. I was worried about damage done, but now that I'm out of stage 1 and doing soups and able to add a scoop of protein I am glad.. I will continue to use them, but cautiously, since I have them, but I hope that Premier isn't lying about anything else about the product. Disappointed.

For me the pain got worse from days 3-6. After that, it was much more manageable and got better everyday. The one pain that is real is the gas pain, and you might feel that in your back, shoulders, side, abdomen and the only thing that relieved that for me was 2 of the chewable Gas-x combined with walking around a bit. Hang in there it will get better!!!

First, we are sugery twins :-) YAY! I am really struggling with the candy in the house. I started a thread boasting about my willpower, and yesterday I broke down and ate a Resees PB cup. It was the first piece of candy I had. It was the first piece of food I have had since my surgery and after hosting a Halloween party for teenagers filled with party food of every sort. The candy is still calling my name and it won't shut up. I told it to get out of my house but it didn't listen. We have a wheelbarrel full of it due to over-zealous trick-or-treating kiddos from my house. I gave a bag of it to a lady at the park today, made my son go home and get it LOL. The struggle is real. I have also pondered this question and hope I am not the poster child of failure either. What I have come up with is this: as soon as I am allowed, I will work in a treat for myself, ..and maybe even everyday, a very small one albeit, because, just that 1 Resees peanutbutter did wonders for my morale, (lol), it was enough, made me happy dance,, AND...::wait for it::: and I didnt want anymore!!! and that made me happy: a win win. So for me, treats will not be out of the question. For me, I am grateful to be able to eat 1 and feel satisfied, a completely new sensation lol.
