When my husband and I moved here, we didn’t have jobs so I applied for Medicaid for us while we were looking. And we got approved. I found out a couple of months later that Staywell/WellCare might possibly cover bariatric surgery so I gave it a chance. In 4 months I was completely approved and operated on yesterday. Woohoo! Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll try to help as much as I can!

My surgery was 3/27 and I had my gallbladder taken out yesterday. How has your recovery been?

Ended up back in the hospital yesterday. I bent down to pick up my shoes and something happened to my stomach. I still have no earthly idea what it was. But I was in excruciating pain and couldn’t hardly breathe. My sister called an ambulance and they took me in. My blood pressure was low and my heart rate was high. Even my sugar was high and it never is. They said I was diaphoretic. They ran all kinds of tests on me and everything came back normal, of course, and they think it was just really bad gas pains. I thought one of my organs was trying to climb out of my body. I’m home now and doing better but I’m definitely super sore from my muscles being super tight and spasming all day. I could use some prayers! I kinda feel like I’m back to day 2 or 3 after surgery, ugh...

I haven’t had a hard time getting my shakes in but I feel like I’m so hungry. And I’m already dealing with temptations. My coworker had a birthday so of course cupcakes were brought in. And of course they were placed where the whole office could have easy access to them, right by my desk. So I got to stare at them for a few hours before I couldn’t take it anymore and I moved them. I could just imagine myself licking the icing off. What’s interesting is that I wasn’t afraid it would make me sick. I was afraid that it wouldn’t make me sick and that I would realize what I can get away with eating still...does that make sense?

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking. It was almost too easy to get down. But then I really think about everything I’ve tried today and it has taken the full day to get the fluids and protein shakes down. For some reason unsweetened applesauce with a little bit of cinnamon added in soothes my stomach. I think it’s the cold. The broths are not working for me at all. I’ve tried 3 different types and they’re just gross to me. SF popsicles are amazing though lol

Lol. I am super sore and still have some gas pain in my shoulder. But regarding my fluids I’m not really having a difficult time at all getting everything down. It’s almost concerning how easy it is :/

How’s everyone doing? March 27th surgery here. Recovery is so much fun...

I had surgery on Wednesday and I’m home recovering. Parts of this have been much easier than expected and parts are super dang hard. For example, sleeping lol. I am getting plenty of fluids down and able to get my meds down. I even got one protein shake down today. I recommend not getting the vanilla shakes. They’re so darn sweet.

Howdy! I’ve been a lurker here for over 10 years. I have wanted this surgery and prayed for it. Through a divorce, job changes (which mean insurance changes), disabled son’s surgery, Lupus diagnosis and then prescribed steroids, I have wanted and needed this surgery. But it wasn’t until about 6 months ago when we moved to Florida that I realized it was actually a real possibility. And it was, and is. And it’s happening tomorrow, March 27th. I haven’t wanted to post anything because I honestly didn’t believe it would happen. Can it be real???

Hello, I just got off the phone with Florida WellCare and finally got them to confirm what I found with my own research. If you google the HS-006 you can find the WellCare (Staywell) plan booklet that shows the requirements. It’s pretty much the same as other insurances, 35 BMI with a comorbidity or 40 without, medically supervised weight loss program within the last 2 years (doesn’t give timeframe), etc.
