  1. Almost all my dates with my husband for the past 13 years have centered around food. I had surgery 11 days ago and obviously can’t go to a restaurant so we have just been sitting home. Does anyone have any date ideas that don’t include food??

    I'm New To This!!

I’m doing great and thanks for asking! I see my surgeon on Thursday and hope to be onto purées! 👍
  3. Thanks so much for all your great ideas! I hadn’t thought much about this before my surgery (I was mostly focused on my “freaking out” and on what I would be eating/drinking at the different stages)! I do love the idea of “day dates” instead of at night because then we can do more active stuff - especially after I get the “all clear” from my surgeon. For now walking does seem like a good thing - as long as their are benches as CrankyMagpie suggested! Thanks again! You guys are the best!! ❤️❤️
  4. Good luck!! Hope everything goes well!!!

    Sleeve vs bypass

I started at 365 - surgery weight was 327 (on October 10th) - current weight is 319. I went with the sleeve because I was afraid of the complications with the bypass. Another reason is my surgeon told me that down the line - if I wasn’t happy - I could convert to the bypass. I have never been a “risk taker”, so for me, this was the right choice. Whatever you decide, I’m sure will be the right choice for YOU! Good luck!! 👍
  6. Thanks for your reply. No quite up for hiking yet, but I will definitely put that on my list for the future. We do love live music - but usually when we go it’s to a bar. I would be fine with going to a bar and being the designated driver - but he thinks I won’t be happy if he’s drinking and I’m not (it wouldn’t bother me!)
  7. OMG! I’m so sorry! I have zero medical training but if I had a pain that was 8 out of 10 (sometimes worse) I would be heading to the E/R! Do you still have your gall bladder?? Hope you get answers soon!!!! 😰

    I'm New To This!!

    I’m just a week ahead - had mine October 10th!! 👍
  9. Everything you are feeling is totally normal! I had my sleeve on 10/10 and I was FREAKING OUT before then! But I just kept thinking - being morbidly obese is killing me. I am literally saving my life by having the surgery! Just relax and trust in your decision! Good luck!!
  10. So sorry you are going through this! My surgeon handled the insurance and it was approved easily - but I don’t really know much about that. I will say this - the pre-op diet WILL get easier! The first 3-4 days were hell, but then my body adjusted to it and it was much better! I’m sending positive thoughts that your approval will come quickly!!
  11. I think sometimes it takes our bodies time to adjust to things. Relax and give it time! Also, make sure you are drinking enough water. I know I tend to lose more when I drink more water. Good luck and don’t give up!! 👍

You don't need WLS just go on a diet!

I’ve told many people about my sleeve surgery (10/10/18). Some were supportive and some were not. I found it an excellent tool to weed out the negative people in my life!! If you can’t be happy for me in my journey to get healthy, then I really have no desire to have an ongoing relationship with you! (Thank God it wasn’t anyone like my husband or mother!!) And that is my favorite thing about this group. Everyone is SO supportive of one another and I just LOVE it!! ❤️

    Second thoughts

So sorry you are struggling! I had similar feelings while I was doing all the pre-op “hoops”. I just kept plugging in and figured if I changed my mind any time up until my surgery I could always back out - but if I stopped the process then I wouldn’t even have a choice. My surgery was 8 days ago and so far so good! I’m glad I kept at it! Good luck!!

    I. DID. IT.

    Dating

13 years ago I met my husband on a website for chubby girls and guys that like chubby girls! He is amazing and I feel very lucky that he is supporting me in my weight loss journey (I was sleeved on Oct 10th) even though I know he loves me the way I am! I would definitely recommend online dating - but would obviously only meet in public! Good luck meeting someone - no matter how you do it!!

    September bypass buddies??

I had my sleeve October 10th. Other than really bad nausea, vomiting and heartburn for 2-3 days, I have had no problems. It’s a bit tough to get 64oz if water in, but I do my best to stay well hydrated. I could easily go back to work now (I work in an office) but I also have a month off so I’m taking advantage of that. Good luck!!!
  17. I’m so sorry your surgeon treated you like this! That is so wrong! I’m only 8 days out from my sleeve surgery, but I am definitely hungry! And I don’t think it’s the “head hunger” that some people talk about. My stomach is growling and I would be happy with a carrot (not like I’m craving something bad for me!). I know at my surgeon’s office they see you at 1 year, 18 mos, 2 years and then annually after that (unless there is an issue). Good luck and I hope you find a better doctor to see!!

    Food funerals?

Mousecat - I totally agree with your idea to abstain from certain “trigger foods”. I think of it like someone addicted to drugs or alcohol who can NEVER have that again. I plan to NEVER eat Doritos or barbecue chips again. I know myself enough to know that I can’t eat those in moderation. Good luck with you surgery!!

    Hungry after surgery

Nikki - I had sleeve surgery last Wednesday (10/10) and came home Friday because I was vomiting so much. Once the nausea and heartburn subsided (Monday) I have been SOOOO hungry! I wondering if they didn’t take enough of my stomach! I’m looking forward to next week when I have my follow up appointment so I can talk to my doctor!
  20. I had sleeve surgery on 10/10. I wasn’t expecting the nausea and constant vomiting the first 2 days or the terrible heartburn, which thankfully is going away. I also wasn’t expecting to GAIN 9lbs while I was in the hospital! The other thing i didn’t expect - i look pregnant! My stomach is so distended I look terrible! On the plus side - I never really had any pain (besides the heartburn).

    Liquid diet

So sorry! I only had to do liquids for 1 day before surgery (prior to that I could have 1 meal a day - 4oz lean protein and veggies - for 2 weeks). Can you try something different than protein shakes? I found the broth from my favorite wonton soup was a welcome change from the shakes. Good luck!!
  22. I have Blue Cross also and I gained weight prior to being approved for surgery (then lost before the actual surgery - but after my approval). I don’t think you will have a problem. Good luck!!

    Hot sauce junkies.

I love hot things also and I’ve never had a problem! Now 5 days post-op I have such heartburn that I couldn’t imagine having ANYTHING spicy right now!! But every day it’s getting better so I’m hoping to add some spice soon!! Good luck!!

    Sweating

I’m not sure if you are a man or woman or how old you are. Could it be a hot flash? (That’s what it sounds like to me!)

    Nervous about vsg

I don’t know what obesity level 2 is but my highest weight was 365 and my surgery weight was 327. For me - the risks of NOT having surgery were worse than having the surgery (gastric sleeve). I had no problem with the anesthesia and my only problem after surgery has been really bad heartburn, but even that is getting better every day (surgery was 10/10). Best of luck to you!!
