What are "full liquids " on your plan?

Along with the things MrsGamgee mentioned, my list also included cottage cheese, jello, popsicles, pudding.

    "Just Overweight!"

I'm so excited today! I am no longer "Obese." I weighed this morning and am officially "overweight!" My highest recorded weight about 3 yrs ago was 242 lbs. That equals a BMI of 48.9 and is Class 3 Morbid obesity. I had a BMI of 46.2 when I started my bariatric journey last June. Today, at 147 lbs, my BMI is 29.7! I am finally just "overweight!"

    Diet

I had no problems with the liquid diet but I now think I'm addicted to the sugar free popsicles!

    2 1/2 Weeks Post-op food intake

Do you have any guidelines from your nutritionist for how much you should be eating at 3 weeks post op? I was told my pouch would hold about 1/4 cup at that stage so I measured out exactly that much. Sometimes I could eat it and sometimes I couldn't. At 6 months out, I still measure and weigh all my food to make sure I have a healthy portion not an "as much as I can eat portion." I've never challenged my pouch to see how much it can hold. As you start to eat more dense proteins you will feel restriction and know when you are full. You will begin to recognize the cues that one more bite is too much! For me, it's a runny nose. It can be very uncomfortable to eat too fast or too much. It only took me a couple of times to do that to get the message that just because I wanted to and probably could eat more doesn't mean I should. That's what got me to the "Bariatric Ball" in the first place! Also, at this stage it's a trial and error kind of effort. Your pouch is still healing and some things you will not be able to eat for a while but will be able to later. Hang in there. It does get easier and is so worth it! Even at your stage now, you may not meet you protein goals yet. Try not to worry too much about it. Give it your best effort and you will get there soon!

    12 tablets a day h.pylori

I remember when I did the treatment a few yrs ago I almost quit because I felt so bad. I was ready to call the office and say "I'm done, I can't finish this" but it was Sunday. I decided if I was still alive on Monday I could probably make it until Wednesday and then I'd be done. It's a tough treatment. Hang in there. Sorry you have to do it again.

    Loss Reports

@med28thmed, here's how I do updates, from a phone: tap on the 3 lines top right corner on the screen, select "patients", select "my surgery," select the "my surgery with the 3 lines beside it, then select "progress." Fill in the blanks then save. From a computer at the top of the screen, choose patients, my surgery and then to the left is progress...fill in the blanks then save.

    Belly button cut?

Yes, I've had laparoscopic surgery before my gastric bypass (gallbladder about 15 yrs ago) and they use the belly button for one of the incisions. I think that's where they insert the camera to see inside your abd. The other incisions are where they put the instruments to do their work. I only had 4 for gallbladder but 6 for bypass. The only site they used for both surgerys was the belly button one so I have a bunch of tiny abd scars. The gallbladder ones are pretty light now but I can still tell where they are.

Fear of being hungry, and RNY success

I had gastric bypass. I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky one's to go a long time without feeling hunger but I wasn't that lucky. My hunger came back after about 4 weeks. It's different now though. I feel hunger, can eat a couple of bites of something and it's gone. It usually happens at work where I tend to go longer periods of time between meals and drinks. I now take a little bag of nuts in my pocket for those times. Sometimes I need them, sometimes I don't.

    Post-op Weight Gain

I found it ironic that I lost 9 lbs with my 2 week pre-op diet and gained exactly 9 lbs in the hospital in less than 24 hrs! I lost that plus 3 more the first week post op. It's normal.

    Ache from over eating?

I pretty much lived on cottage cheese and yogurt for a while. Couldn't eat more than half a scrambled egg for a while or it felt like I ate a rock once it hit my stomach! At this stage more than a couple bites of anything may be too much. Take it slow and if something doesn't sit well now, wait a few days and introduce it again later. It's boring at first but as you heal it does get better!

    Vitamins - Yuck!

I was only required to take chewables for one month and then could switch to capsules.

    How much to eat

Sometimes when the calendar says it's time to change to the next phase the stomach says otherwise! Just wait a few more days and try again. Go slow and let your stomach be your guide. It really is a trial and error process as to what your new tummy can handle at this stage. It does get better with time.

6 MONTH COMPARISON VSG vs RNY weight loss

If everyone would update their statistics you would have lots of information. I'm not at 6 months yet but will be 5 months on the 9th. My info and my wt loss ticker are up to date. Are you still pre op?

    Any 4' 11 Bypassers?

I'm also exactly 4'11" tall. I'm not sure our height has anything to do with how fast we lose wt if that is what you are asking. I just know extra weight is noticeable quicker because it has no where to go except to make us wider! I had actually been losing wt for about a year before I had surgery but for some reason this time around no one said anything until I had lost about 30 lbs. Not sure what my ultimate goal will be as far as wt goes but health wise I've met my goals of no more meds for high BP and hemoglobin A1C is the lowest it's ever been. I also weigh every day but try not to concentrate on the number too much. I count my Sunday wt as my "current weight."

    Chile? Hot sauce?

When I went for my one month check up my dr had an absolute fit because I told him I had put hot sauce in my soup! He yelled at me like a disappointed dad! He said it could cause ulcers. So, being the good patient I tried to be, I waited until the 3 month mark before I did that again! Now I enjoy as much spice as I need and don't feel any ill effects.

    Plastic surgery after wls

I haven't yet because I'm not at goal yet but I will when the time comes. I know 2 people that have had plastics recently after WLS and their results are excellent. One lost 250 lbs, the other 150 lbs. Both still have more surgery to do.

    Bypass tomorrow and scared

Exactly what Fluffy said! The only thing I can add is ask for an abdominal binder while in the hospital if they don't offer one. It keeps everything nice and supported while getting out of bed and walking. I used mine for about a week or so and then didn't feel I needed it after that.

    Yogurt

I eat a lot of yogurt too and if I have one that is too sweet I add a scoop of plain unflavored protein powder to it. Cuts the sweetness and ups the protein too.

How sore can I expect to be post op?

I am 3 1/2 months post op RNY and have had absolutely no pain or nausea. I did have nerve blocks in both sides of my abd preop and they gave me pain meds in the hospital even though I told them I had no pain. I went home less than 24 hrs post op and never took any pain meds at all.

    Tailbone

I use the recumbent bike at the gym to loosen up my arthritic right hip and have started having pain in my tailbone. I was thinking I may need to get a pad for the seat.

    Heavenlyangel50

@lifeasfaith, so you were 49 when you had your last baby? I have seen plenty of natural pregnancies from women in their 40s, just none in their 50s. I'm not saying they don't happen, I'm just saying I've never seen one. I work in a hospital that delivers 14,000 babies per yr! I know what you mean about the "geriatric" part.. I was considered an "elderly primigravida" when I had my son, meaning I was older than 30 with my first pregnancy. I think that term may now be used for those over 35, not sure. Not very flattering for sure!
