I think when people get used to seeing you thinner the comments will stop. At least that's what I'm hoping for too. I know a girl I work with had surgery 2 yrs ago and people used to say that about her all the time. Now I rarely hear anything...maybe because they are now saying it about me, behind my back! I hear those comments too and I think it's because the wt came off so fast. I just hit my "normal" BMI wt this morning so now when they comment at least I can say I'm where I want to be...and don't plan to lose more! Congratulations on your weight loss!

So, I am now 10 months post op RNY Gastric bypass. I have exactly one more pound until I am "normal" BMI! I am so excited! I saw my doctor recently when I was 125 lbs and he told me not to lose any more weight. After much discussion about how I really want to be a normal BMI and it was only 2 more pounds he agreed it was ok to do. I'm sure this last pound is going to be the hardest one to lose! According to my doctor I have lost 93% of my excess wt. I wonder if I can actually make it to the "ideal" wt they gave me, 117 lbs. My doctor said he doesn't expect me to go that low. Hmmmm....sounds like a challenge!

I did 42,000 steps according to my fitbit last week but I don't wear it continuously. Also, did a few miles on a stationary bicycle but didn't keep track of how much. Now that I found this thread I'll keep better track this week.

The Last Pound!
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Lynnlovesthebeach's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@FluffyChix once I hit the 123 lb goal it seems doable to lose 6 more before I see my doctor in 6 months! We'll see. I haven't been that low in probably 40 yrs but it would still give me a BMI of 23...perfectly healthy. Oh, by the way, I was 123.9 on my scale this morning...after using the bathroom and naked! Now I gotta get there with clothes on! -
I know what you mean. I tell people all the time "the last time I weighed what I weigh now, I was considered fat because I was on the way up!" I had weighed 112 lbs so when I hit 124 I was fat! The other day when a friend whispered into my ear, "don't lose any more weight, you will be too thin," I asked her, "how come you didn't tell me not to gain any more weight?" Rude is rude, no matter which side of the scale you are on! Do your own thing and be happy with it! Don't worry about what anyone else says!

I don't think it's an age thing. There are plenty of us "seniors" on here that are losing weight. Make sure you are fowling the guidelines your bariatric team gave you and track everything you eat or drink. I use My Fitness Pal but there are others out there to use. Good luck!

They gave me one at the hospital the first time I got out of bed. I used it about a week or 2. It helped quite a bit because you don't have to use your hands to support your sore belly when moving around. Also, it makes walking more comfortable.

I didn't eat any fruit at that point after surgery. I had no room after I ate my protein.

No longer "obese"!!!

Congratulations! It is such a good feeling! -
Whose goal weight are you using? Your own or your program's?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Uterno's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My goal weight in my profile came from what my doctor said he thought I could get to. They actually list my "Ideal" weight as 117 lbs but I'm not sure I need to go that low. I need to be 123 to be a "normal" BMI so that is kind of what I'm shooting for. Any weight less than that is a bonus! I see my doctor today and I'll see what he thinks about my goal. I'm now a size 4 petite in pants, XS-S in tops...I ok with that! -
Starting my new Journey

Good luck with your journey. It's tough at times but worth everything you put into it! -
You are the patient, it is your decision! If this surgeon can't provide the service you need and want it's time for another doctor!

Weighing food (how do you measure yours?) cup or scale
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Carolina Rose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
solids measure on a scale, liquids measure in a measuring cup -
I think "the weight basically melted off" is a dream for most WLS patients! It rarely happens that way. It's not a magic bullet and certainly wasn't presented to me that way by my team. It's a tool and requires a lot of work. If you stick with your plan you will lose. Good luck and hang in there.

My doctor yelled at me at my one month post op visit because I told him I put a little bit of hot sauce on my soup to make it less boring. He told me it could cause ulcers and to wait until I was 3 months post op.

Congratulations! Such a wonderful feeling isn't it?

3 Days and counting
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to BigChefEgo357's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with your surgery. It was a much easier surgery than my right hip replacement I had 5 weeks ago! -
Went to the mall yesterday and stopped in Chicco's. The lady working there asked if I was shopping for myself. I said yes and she said, "I don't think you are going to find much in here to fit you, you're a little to thin for us." Ok then, Macy's petite department here I come! Petite XS please!

I was instructed to open the capsules and mix with water and crush anything else and mix with water for the first month. I had chewable vitamins and calcium. Most of the meds they prescribed were liquid except Eliquis that I crushed for 2 weeks and something (can't remember what it was) that came in a capsule.

Where will you be 9 months from now?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to KT1981's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too am 9 months post op but I had gastric bypass. I have reached my doctor's goal but need to get to 123 to have a normal BMI. About 5 lbs to go. I don't really think I'll strive to reach the "ideal" weight for my height-117 lbs. If I get there fine, if I don't, that's ok too. I hope in 9 months I too will be ready for plastics because my "bat wings" make it difficult to find clothes that fit...my arm size doesn't match my body size. And face it, I live in Florida...all the cute summer clothes are sleeveless! Now, I only buy things with 3/4 sleeves. Also, the loose abdominal skin has got to go! Congratulations on your success! -
Weight loss during nutrition counseling?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Libby63's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was never told to lose any amount of weight in my 3 months of supervision but I did lose about 25 lbs in the 4 months between my first doctor visit and my surgery day. -
50 days post op & finally down a size!
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to JanJan19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on your progress so far. I like your attitude. I had no issues either and I'm 9 months out. I just did what I was told to do and didn't' worry if I had an occasional day where I may have been a little low on protein or fluid. I figured if I was doing my best that's all I could ask. I didn't compare my weightloss to anyone else. I thought I would reach my doctor's goal in 6 months but I didn't. It took me 8 1/2. No big deal, time is going to pass anyway and it will happen when it happens! I stay away from the stuff that got me to the bariatric service in the first place! Sugar and junk food. After a while it becomes easy to say, "Yes, that looks delicious, but no, I don't want 'just a taste'." -
Just continue following the instructions your bariatric team gave you and it will happen. My hair loss started at about 5 months and continued for about 3 months. Luckily, I had a lot of hair to start with.
