How fast can I bounce back?

My sister had it done while she was in college over her winter break and did ok going back. However, keep in mind that was in 1989 and the surgery was open and hospital stay was a week. Honestly, if you could shoot for Thanksgiving break it may be better.

    Day 1 pre-op.. already sucks!

Maybe start slow and allow one meal a day for a few days?

The process to get to surgery

Most of us have a 6 month Dr assisted diet to complete so it could always be worse. Take the time to do all the research you can and be ready for all the changes to come.
  4. Yes, but I had to deal with the fallout when trying to explain that he has a catheter and really didn't need to get up to pee. He got so mad at me. He had just had surgery to repair a broken hip and shoulder so he couldn't get up regardless...but darnit he wanted up....bless him😊

    Phys evaluation

That's a really terrible question to ask someone during the evaluation. Mine asked about my home life growing up...if I was close to my parents and siblings. He mostly wanted to know that I had researched the procedure and that I didn't just impulsively jump into this...like I could with all the hoops lol. Also lots of questions about drug and alcohol use.
  6. I had to postpone one of my monthly weigh ins for a week(got tied up at work and couldn't make it and the next available appt was the following week)...will that cause me to have to start over?

    Breakdown of timeline?

I did the online seminar and heard back from the bariatric center the next day...had my surgery consult about a week later and began my insurance hoops...I had already started a dr monitored diet about a month before so I continued with that and will have my final appt Tues....meanwhile, i've had the sleep study and psychological eval...I'd already had the required Endoscopy. Assuming i've lost the requisite 10% of my weight, everything will go back to insurance for final approval next week and then I will finally get my surgery date. It's been about 6 month thus far. It's a process, but be patient and it will fly by.

    Phys evaluation

Yes, it asked several times about random personal things like "is your favorite activity ...." I do remember the question about the poets as well lol. I was assuming that they were make sure we were reading all the questions and not just marking stuff down. My daughter had to do a similar test for ADHD and she got tired of the repetitive questions and just started marking things...it concluded that she was anorexic...the kid weighs 200 lbs(she was 18).
  9. It often gives that feeling. My Dad had surgery recently and he was constantly trying to get up to pee...he has dementia so he kept forgetting about the cath.
  10. It's nothing to be scared of...at the most is just uncomfortable...but honestly it's totally worth it not to have to get up to pee constantly lol. I know that we need to get up and move after surgery...but all that effort just to pee? No thank you lol.

    Phys evaluation

Mine was only about 2 hrs or so and most of that time was the 300 question personality evaluation. I also spoke with him for a while about my support system, what I knew about the surgery and what I expect from the surgery...plus all the questions about substance abuse and previous mental health history.
  12. I've spend the last 27 years taking care of my kids, now it's time to take care of me 😃

  13. Notice that it's the guys that are scared of the catheter lol. Us ladies have dealt with far worse...child birth comes to mind. Y'all cracked me up so much on this thread that I just had to go ahead and make an account and reply 😁 Hi, i'm Karen and i'm an over eater and hoping to have RNY the end of the year. My last hurdle will be finished next week and then off to insurance.
