I am 4 weeks out and sometimes I eat to fast and don't chew well enough. The food feels like it sits at the bottom of my esophagus and top of my stomach. I usually need to get up and walk around and try to burp. Sometimes the food comes up and I do feel better. Trying to get better at eating mindfully!

Taste bud changing thing was no joke
Georgetown replied to sleevegirl88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I noticed right after surgery, things that were sweet were disgustingly sweet. I also couldn’t drink my beloved cup of coffee. That’s changed now. I’m better with tastes and can drink my coffee again! -

You look fantastic! -
My dr had me stop my blood pressure meds two days before surgery. I would think if there was a med he/she wanted you to stop taking before the two week pre op, you’d know. Is there someone in the office you can contact with questions?

Congrats on taking such a positive and healthy step in your life!

You look fantastic girl! -
Sounds like quite an ordeal! I’m glad you’re in the mend and feeling good!

Lol! Georgetown is the name of my street! I couldn’t think of any names that weren’t taken already when I signed up on BP!

You deserve someone who loves you and thinks you’re beautiful no matter what size you are! That guy can go shove it! There’s a reason he’s still alone! I’ll step off my soap box now! Lol

I haven’t tried the Isopure. Have you tried the premier protein clear liquid? I like the mango/orange flavor. It has 20g of protein in it.

Thanks for the info. I love cookbooks and this one looks like a good one!

Hi flyawayfree! I’m glad you shared your feelings. First, let me say you do deserve to be healthy and happy! So don’t have doubts about that. I’m about 4 weeks post op. I’ve stopped obsessively weighing myself because it’s making me crazy! I’m going by how I feel and look and how my clothes fit. I think how you’re feeling is normal. I would definitely suggest seeking out a therapist who can help you quiet the doubt in your head and help with the tough time you’re going through now. The BP forum is very helpful too but a therapist would be great to help too! Best of luck to you! You’ve done the right thing for yourself! Keep up the great work!

Hi KT1981! Welcome to the site. It’s a great site for support and if you have questions. I had my sleeve done on 10/16. I’m trying to only weigh myself once a week. Lots of people have said it’s very common to not lose anything in week three because you’re body is trying to figure out what on earth is happening! Best of luck to you!

Struggling with post op diet and calorie restriction.

I’m on week three too. I am able to eat soft protein but I get what you mean about feeling hungry. For me, I think it’s just in my head sometimes. I’m used to eating whenever I want and that’s why I look the way I do! I think it’s great your seeing a therapist! That’ll be helpful. Can you take a walk to feel less stressed while you’re studying? Maybe set your watch for every hour just get up and move and drink some water or crysyal light? You’ve got a lot going on. Don’t be to hard on yourself! It’s hard to stop thinking about food! Good luck! -
Wow that’s exciting! You’ll do great! I third what everyone’s saying about not taking much to the hospital! Get some clear protein drinks for afterwards because you’ll be sick of the super sweet and milky ones! Good luck!

Hi Hrsnjs. I had my sleeve done on 10/16. I’m eating solid foods now and I noticed that I can eat more of certain foods than others. My doctor wants me to get 60-80 g of protein per day. They never said 1/4 of a cup. Today I was able to eat a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese which has 16 g of protein in it. Just make sure you’re getting enough protein and following the serving sizes. I hope that helps!

Thanks!

Had my sleeve done three weeks ago today. I’m down 16 pounds since the surgery and 31 pounds since the pre-op diet. I’m happy with the results but I did step in the scale this morning hoping to see lower numbers. I’m trying to only weigh myself once a week. I can’t wait to start working out again. I do think that’ll help. Drinking has gotten much easier and I’m so happy to eat solid foods again. I did try some deli turkey yesterday and that didn’t go so well! I’ve made some delicious soups and chicken chili with lots of beans. All of it went down well. My nutritionist suggested I write down what I’m eating with the amount of protein so I can keep track. I’m going to start doing that as I think it’ll be helpful to keep me accountable. A lot of folks have said they can only take a few bites and they feel so full. I haven’t experienced that. I find myself having to learn what satisfied feels like. Not a feeling I’m used to. Anyway, I hope everyone’s doing well on their journey!

Hi grapefruit. I had my surgery on 10/16 and boy is to nice eating real food! Last night I made a crust less quiche and it was so good! I also made low-fat cream of broccoli soup. Also delish. We take for granted chewing!

Hi golfgirlgettingthin. When did you have your surgery? I burped every time I drank something, for the first few days. It does go away. I know the feeling you mean when you drink. It feels like it’s sitting at the bottom of your esophagus and top of your stomach. Just take small sips and keep walking! That will help! Good luck!

Hi notmyname. I put the protein powder in the blender or use an immersion blender and that breaks up the clumps of protein powder. Don’t stress about the walking. You sound like you’re doing great. I’d say, if you feel you can go further, then walk a little more. If you have an iPhone, I know there is a pedometer on there or you can download an app that counts your miles. Hope that helps!

I had the same thing. If irs just a little drop, I wouldn’t be to concerned!

Hi Freiabr. Glad you’re home! I had my surgery on 10/16. I had a drain they took out before I was discharged. I didn’t put any ointment on the incision. I did take the bandage off before I showered and then put a clean one on. My doctor said he didn’t want a wet bandage on the incision. Had the staples taken out a week later and you can barely tell there’s a scar there! Best of luck to you!

I had a rough time with nausea after the surgery. Mine was from the anesthesia and lasted until the next morning. Then I was ok. Good luck!
