  1. if you drink coffee use the shakes as creamer. Get some sugar free syrup and add flavor to the shakes to help the taste. I have heard some people say they add a little water to thin it out some. I also get Protein2o. That has 15g of protein and can be used to substitute some of the shakes. Premier also has a clear protein drink. I am now 6 weeks out and still have to drink shakes, but i have set aside the ready made ones for when i am on the go and bought 25g per scoop 100%whey and i make my own shakes now. It helps to change it up. Being 6 days out you are on full liquids probably.. Get some genepro.. its unflavored and can be mixed in your soups.. it has 30g per scoop ( and the scoops are tiny -so you get a lot out of the little bit). Hope this helps.

    Confronting the "mean girls"

I am different. I am not ashamed of what i have done. After all we are still putting in the hard work. It isnt easy doing this. This is not the easy way out. In my office.. Most know what i have decided to do. For one, i work in a small office and we are like family. For two.. if something happens to me during work ( like it did the other day when i couldnt tolerate chicken... ( had my head over the trash can for hour and a half) How else are they going to know if i need help with something. My co workers are very supportive of my decision. When they order food out, they are very considerate of what i can and cannot eat, and accomodate to what i can do. The person who order supplies, specifically orders decaf coffee for me to keep at my desk so nobody drinks it all and i am left without. I consider my co workers a part of my support group. When i was on liquids they would ask.. what can you have here are our options.. etc. Now if you want to keep it private, that is also fine.. we all have our reasons.. for one.. ppl in the office are going to notice the changes in your eating habits, etc. You may want to bring up something like Orchids said.. you are investing in you for the new year and decided to start early.. You want to make sure your decision works for you so you are doing it under doctors care and supervision. I would rather my office work with me than against me. After all, we are at work more than we are at home.
  3. I also think we in the post WLS are more aware of the food and our surroundings. I for one.. can smell something now over 10 ft away and it drives me bananas. People in today's world look at food as a second nature must do.. Forget restaurants and serving sizes.. we in America do not even think about the amount of food that we are served, just that we have to clean our plates. If America keeps up this trend, this article is correct.. it is only going to get worse.
  4. The whole process is easier than i expected. I didnt have any pain once i woke up. I have no issues getting in water or protein.. even my first cycle post surgery.. while late.. was normal.. I feel very lucky.. overall. As for my struggles.. not drinking and eating at the same time.. and waiting in between. Getting sidetracked then having to catch up on my water. Trying to drink sip after sip without pausing and the biggest one.. Slowing down to eat. I seem to get too full too fast because i eat too fast. I need to install a habit of putting down the fork, spoon, whatever it is. and Chew Chew Chew.. Once i get these two things figured out.. I will probably be able to eat more. Right now i get full after 2 to 3 bites of anything and only eat 3 times a day.. I am now full menu so i need to be able start increasing my food intake somewhat so i can get more than meat (protein) in and start having a balanced meal.

    Ensure Max

I have 2 cases of Premier left. I am at the point i drink them if i am on the go. I have started using pure protein.. 100% Whey and making my own shakes. They are lighter, less sweet and more of a liquid than premier. I have a slew of torani syrups and i just add a flavor i want for the day.. Changes every day !
  6. you can take protein water and ready made shakes!!! You can get them through security at the airport because they are medically necessary. I just went to DC and was able to take mine with me. I did an ASK TSA on FB as recommended and they said absolutely. The only thing is with the ready made shakes, you will have to pop them open so they can vapor screen them, and leave them in a seperate bin ( if you choose not to check them).. you can take them on the plane with you..
  7. It all depends on your weight. I happen to lose 20 but i started higher so i had more to lose.. Well 19.5 to be precise. The scale at home and the scale at the hospital were different by half pound.. Today i am down a total of almost 45 including the preop. I am good with this..My cycle showed up the night before surgery. Then again on the 17th of this month. I can say from all the stories i read about cycles changing.. I was lucky! Mine was normal, just 10 days late LOL.. Gone in time for Christmas!!! YAY! Anyways everybody is different so do not compare yourself to others, it will only frustrate you. This is your journey and you will be different than everybody else. Good Luck on your Journey!

    chugging water

I do not chug but i have found myself trying to take 3 drinks in a row from a bottle of water. Two back to back i can get away with.. Always.. without fail when i attempt the 3rd one, its an automatic reaction to stop mid drink stick my tongue on the bottle to keep water from entering my mouth and then i sit and wait with liquid in my mouth for a min before i swallow. It is the funniest thing.. Good thing it hasnt happened in public LOL.
  9. I have not. Good Luck and feel better!

I fear it's wasted on me

you can do this. Take it one day at a time and keep moving in the right direction. I would suggest you see a therapist to help you with emotional eating so that you do not fall down the same path. Good Luck on your Journey.

    Beta Blockers...

Good Luck! Start tracking your intake. Dont just assume the gain is from the meds. You still have to intake more than you expell to gain. The meds arent going to automatically add the extra weight. It may cause you to eat more to cause the gain, or retain water.. but evaluate what is actually causing the gain and address that. Maybe you need to drink more water to rid your body of more toxins ... Good Luck!

    Vomiting

I hope you are feeling better.. I am only 6 weeks out and still learning how to take meds so they dont come back up.
  15. I just wanted to give a big thanks to whoever it is in here that recommended the egg bites from Starbucks! I went to DC this past weekend and there was a Starbucks in the hotel.. YAY! I got to try the Cheese and Bacon. While i could only eat half of one.. it was absolutely flipping amazing LOL.. Between that and the Pepperoni and Cheese box from the Smithsonian i was in heaven LOL. I am back home now and stopped and Starbucks on the way to work this morning just to try the egg white and red pepper. I have to wait a few more min before eating it because it has not been 30 min since water yet.. but THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! You saved my weekend!

    Three week stall! :(

you have done a great job. 90 pounds is really good. Unfortunately this isnt Disney.. The magic stops there.. we have to do all the work! Dont be so hard on yourself.
  21. Awesome Job! Above and Beyond... you absolutely went above and beyond with information you did not have to provide.. I totally appreciate you even though it doesn't pertain to me lol.

    Going home!

That is Awesome! Welcome to the Losers Bench. I was in the hospital for 2 nights but that is the protocol for my Surgeon. He does the leak test during surgery and then the day after. Once the leak test is done you can start liquids.. If all goes well on day one after surgery in the hospital and you are up and moving around, going to the bathroom, etc. Then on day two post op you can go home.

    Weight Gain After Approval

    Good Luck on your Journey!
  24. Good Luck on your Journey. I was self pay as i did not have insurance that covered it. I did all my research, researched the Dr. to see his stats, successes, and such. Did a lot of YouTube watching, and READING a lot of the message boards will also give you a lot of insight on how people are doing. The one thing i can say, is if you are ready, you will know it, you will not second guess your decision and you will be prepared for whatever may come.. Do your research now while waiting that way you will have all the extra knowledge they may not tell you during the consult.
