Upcoming liquid to soft food transition
Jazzy1125 replied to WNC AV8R's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
i would reach out to the doctor to make sure nothing else is going on. i dont recall having pain while swallowing but i have been really lucky throughout the whole process. One note to make.. liquids is easy to get the 64 ounces in when just on liquids. the moment you add in food.. it becomes 10 times more difficult. You literally have to schedule every bite and swallow to get it all in.. There are days i miss it by a few and back to game plan next day and assessing where you got behind.. Once you are behind, it is very difficult to catch up. -
i need something for this too. I am tired of cold food all the time so i have resorted to eating cold foods lol so its not too bad.. right now i am eating pepperoni slices for lunch.. i have 4 cheese cubes too but am enjoying the pepperoni lol

i had my sleeve 3 hours away. I went to the 2 week follow up and then my next appt is Jan 9th. I asked for a phone appt so i dont have to drive 6 hours for a 15 min visit. I will find out how it goes here in the next week or so and can let you know. I do know there are support groups locally that i can participate in and my Dr. Office also does an online support group. My new insurance after the 1st of the year also has a support group of some sort for weight loss that i am going to look into.

i cannot wait to be in this situation. Congratulations!

I hope you feel better. I had the sleeve so i am unable to answer lab band questions, but i hope you feel better soon.

Support and honesty needed

I agree that the husband is full of insecurities, but looking at her weight and BMI she is borderline eligible. One piece of information that is missing is are there any other comoribidities. I am far from a surgeon but all i see around here is to be considered you have to have other comorbidities at a 35 bmi.. I may be wrong, but i also see both sides of this equation. -
That your health insurance may have a fitness reimbursement program as well as weight loss support program? I just finished setting up insurance for our employees for the first time at the company i work at. ( Small Business). The Insurance is United Health Care. The insurance has two riders included in the cost. Real Appeal and Simply Engaged.... Both of these provide something to the employee. The real appeal is the weight loss support group, but the simply engaged will reimburse 20 bucks a month from your gym membership if you go to the gym more than 12 times a month. I am super excited about both of these things that are offered. I figured if our company as a small business has these options then maybe most of you may have something similar and should (if not already) be taking advantage of it if you thought about or are currently going to the gym or such. Doesn't hurt to look into it.

Am I a 'recovered' morbidly obese person?

Congratulations! I cannot wait to reach my goal weight. I am in the beginning stages, but i am hoping to be close to it by the time our family reunion comes around in june. -
I was thinking the same thing. I did not have the band, but those seem to be the signs of pregnancy again. It could just be coincidence that it happened around the same time as the band filling. Wont hurt to get checked out

Going thru RNY alone? Need someone overnight?
Jazzy1125 replied to SimoneMonet's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everybody is different. I do agree that somebody staying over night is unnecessary. Not only are you tired and will not be good company, but your nurses will be in and out ALL NIGHT and whoever is with you will not get any sleep themselves while you are there. If your husband can come in the morning that would be fine. If not, and you are traveling, take an uber home if you live nearby. My daughter went with me and i sent her home (3 hour drive) and my son came to pick me up when i was discharged, other than that, nurses are in and out all day, and they have you walking up and down the hallway all day.. i thought it was best to not have to worry about keeping anybody company. -
Well, it has been a while since i posted a status update.. So long, I forgot how to do it LOL.. Well i just surpassed the 7 week mark. I am overall feeling great. Learning how to eat is ongoing. I am learning to take time between bites so i am not overly full by bite 3. I am down almost 50 pounds total. The scale stalled again but only for a few days. It was just this morning it moved a smidge, so hopefully i will be down 50 pounds by new year Or at least by 2 months on Jan 8th. I am getting ready to join a gym.. I will go next week and see if i like the LA Fitness near the dance studio i go to. I would really like a personal trainer but will see what happens. I am excited for 2019 and all it has to offer and all that i can offer it! I have a family reunion coming up in Connecticut in June, and i have not told any of them i had the surgery. I also do not post pics on my facebook on purpose these days. I want next summer to be a super surprise to everybody there! My main focus is to learn how to eat so that i can consume more each meal. My other main focus needs to be tracking calories. I am good at tracking water and somewhat protein, but not to the T.. That is going to be my biggest obstacle but i hope to have a handle on it by Feb1st is my goal time frame.

Weight loss stopped after 5 weeks?
Jazzy1125 replied to Barbara H.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am just over 7 weeks out. Your weight loss is great, but check with your doctor on your plan. I still cant have fruits and can only have a few soft canned veggies just now at 7 weeks.. I never get to the veggies because we are supposed to be eating protein first and then if hungry veggies and then carbs... try tracking your carbs also and make sure that your calorie intake is half protein, 1/4 carb, 1/4 fat... i barely ever get to the carb part, fat i am going to venture a guess is in with protein since its no carbs LOL -
My number one issue so far.. at 6 weeks post op, just started recently as i am adding new food to the plan and can now eat real foods. My issue and struggle is the time between bites. I tend to eat bite after bite and then by bite 3.. i cannot handle anymore. I have counted the bites before swallowing, and somebody recommended on one of the threads the bariastic app.. I have tried that and the timer is for chewing. I have a timer on my phone and could resort to that also. Most of the time when at work i am fine because i dont ever actually take a lunch break. I eat while working and so that helps to space out the bites. My issue is more when i am home. I sit down at the table to eat. So unless i dont do meal time and do something while having dinner.. i still eat too fast. Tonight i was here.. LOL Posting while I ate my Real Good Snack Pizza.. so it was ok.. But i am looking for other ideas because if there are people around or i am in a restaurant it can be rude to constantly be on your phone or not paying attention to the people you are around. Most people in the resturant setting, eat, eat, eat LOL. This happened the other night when i went to dinner with my daughter and her new boyfriend. ( It was meet the boyfriend time) and after 3 bites (real small ones ) of the grilled chicken, i was done.. could not eat anymore. I know i will need to start to up my calories, but if i am struggling to get in 2 to 3 ounces of protein.. then how am i ever gonna get to the veggies LOL.. Anyways.. I am brainstorming here to see what i can come up with. It may take me a week or so to figure this out.. each stage seems to do that.. by the time you figure it out.. you are on to the next one lol AnyAll suggestions and Ideas are welcomed. Thanks

Dose of Reality!!! Please do your Research!
Jazzy1125 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Let me start this thread by first apologizing if it is too straight forward. I know we all need support including myself and we are all here for support, to get to know one another, and to be there to pick one another up when we fall. Gastric Surgery is a life changing surgery! It will change the rest of your life for the rest of your life. It is a physical change to your inner workings of your body.. and ONLY your body. It does not change how we deal with food. It does not change how we choose to eat. A choice is a choice that solely rests on our shoulders. Our stomach was changed on the inside to restrict the amount of food we can consume at one time. That is it!! The rest is up to us. Please do your research before having the surgery. I have seen so many posts on here where people think because the stomach was altered the weight is going to magically drop off over night. Magic is found at Disney Only :). The hard work, exercise, controlled eating, limiting carbs avoiding junk food. Making the right choices when it comes to fueling our bodies is solely our responsibility! Let me add here.. i am far from perfect! I have struggled time and time again, hence why i am a part of these boards! Read the boards before surgery from newbies! And what they have experienced immediately following surgery. Every experience is different but you will know what you can expect, and if it does not happen to you.. Guess what? You are one of the Lucky ones!!! Count your blessings! Each and every one of them! Each day is a new day and a chance to put in a little extra effort to meet your end goals. Speaking of Goals! Have some! NSV ones, Scale Ones, Measurement Ones... We all have something we look forward to on this journey. Make lemonade out of lemons! Have fun with your new tool. Take advantage of it and baby it at the same time. Follow your doctors orders! We are not all doctors here! This is a major procedure. There are reasons the doctor puts us on the food plan that he does. It is not to punish us. It is to make sure we don't put a whole in the new stomach that is still stapled and healing. Seek out a therapist if you are struggling with emotional eating. The folks on the boards can give tips, but you really need to get to the root of that, and that may require a doctor visit. Yes Accountability is a great factor to have on the boards, and it is great to vent, but if you are truly struggling with emotional eating, then you truly need to seek a provider in your area to help you get through it. There is so much information, tips, and advice on the boards! Take advantage of it. Take time to read them! Be a part of the community and respond to others that may be having a down day.. It is expected! But please please before you take the plunge on this life changing surgery know what to expect. Know what might happen and be prepared for it along the way. Rant over! If you made it this far.. Thanks for reading. I just wish some folks would read up on something they are investing in and all the pros and complication possibilities so they know exactly how things may play out. With all my love and a Merry Christmas to all.. Jazzy
