Best snacks or food to eat to help loose weight

There are a lot of recipes out there that can be made. I did a low carb diet prior to surgery and did fairly well.. i am actually about 18 pounds away from my lowest on my low carb diet.. then i fell off the wagon, hence the surgery. I consider the tool my wagon that makes me stay seated!

    Certain Foods

I shop for two other people. We try not to keep "bad foods" in the house to avoid tempations, but it is not always the case. I am lucky that these things dont bother me because i used to never eat them before surgery.

You are more than welcome anytime!

    Rewards

Get some leggings. Those tend to fit better as your weight changes and you can still wear them after you drop some pounds.

    Pregnancy after wls

It was literally the first they made me do on surgery day. Called me back and handed me the cup Maybe the HCG levels were not high enough to detect yet! But that can be scary!

Can I afford the post-op diet?

We would rather you ask, at least I would LOL..than to try and figure it out and stress then eat the bad foods you are trying to stay away from. Also, read a lot of the message boards. You will find so much information out there and it can help you prepare for the "what may happen" and how people handled it. If it doesn't happen, great! you are lucky, but if it does, you will be totally prepared and have an idea of how it can be handled.

Can I afford the post-op diet?

also the ProCare Health Multivitamin is only 1x a day! A true blessing! I also went out and bought Celebrate calcium, because I have a 3 month supply of Procare before my health insurance kicked in and sent me the Nascobal ones. So I had to get a calcium supplement for the supply I had before I can take the others.

Can I afford the post-op diet?

My protein shakes - I have two.. I buy pure protein powder and make my own shakes. Each container cost about $20 at Sams Club but has 30 servings, I also use Torani Flavored Syrup in the SF version.. to make my own flavors. As for the other ones. I buy Premier Protein.. I ONLY use them for creamer in my coffee! I thought about getting some other stuff, but I can get 5 or 6 cups of coffee out of each container and I don't have to buy creamer anymore. ( I add about 2 ounces of protein shake to my cup of decaf) The vitamins I take are ProCare Health They come with Iron and I get them from Amazon. It is about 20 a month supply, but then you will have to add in calcium. If you have health insurance ask your surgeon about the Nascobal. That is a prescription for B12, which you will need. My Job offered Health insurance in Jan.. Now my health insurance does NOT cover the surgery, but it covers the Nascobal 100%.. the perk.. when you get the nascobal, they send all the vitamins you need along with it. So you will get your calcium, iron, and multivitamin if approved for the low cost. Mine is now free for the next year. I was told mine would be declined because I have *** Insurance but to the surprise of all it was approved and without a copay for the prescription. I don't know why this is *** out the Insurance type LOL.. Just know its not PPO its the other one that starts with H LOL

    A little scared

Just take it a day at a time and keep reminding yourself that you are doing this for a reason and soon it will become a task you have to take care of, kinda like an errand to run.. and you will walk in there with your head held high knowing it is the right thing to do.

    Vaping

I quit smoking to get this surgery! I had to be smoke free for 30 days for my surgeon to even allow me to participate. 3 days after I decided to get the surgery I quit and never looked back. There is no way I am going back now! I am 4 months smoke free and almost 3 months post op!

    Looking Forward For Great Things

Congratulations and welcome to the losers bench! I too am excited for my journey. I think the one thing I most look forward to is competing in a ballroom competition that I wanted to do last year but due to my weight was intimidated. I am super excited for this September as it was this competition I saw last year that made me decide to get this done. My son has been a teacher for 7 years and I only finally just gave in to taking the lessons a year ago April! I am so looking forward to this year.

    Pregnancy after wls

That was my thought! They make you do one the morning of surgery to make sure you aren't pregnant before going under. Congratulations to you! I am excited for your journey.. but at the same time a little shocked they didn't check!
  13. My team is against snacking for the 1st year. Right now we are to do 3 small meals a day and supplemented with a protein shake a day. After a year, we can replace the protein shake with a protein snack..and that's it. I barely have time to eat let alone think about snacking LOL

Can I afford the post-op diet?

Healthy foods may be more expensive, but you will not eat nearly as much as you did before. Yes you will need items that are not part of your regular food plan like vitamins and protein shakes, but literally, you will be eating 6 ounces of food a day in total! A perfect example of two things I did.. I made my own protein crust for pizza. 1 cup of mozz cheese, 1 egg, and 1 1/2 cups chopped cauliflower.. I may have spent 8 dollars on those 3 items.. the cheese will make this twice, and so will the cauliflower.. and well you now have 11 eggs for something else.. so in essence it cost me 4 bucks to make this crust, but this one batch of crust made 5.. enough for 5 meals!!! and then some.. because I can only eat half LOL. Also, we have wawa gas station here, and I bought an egg bowl. with eggs, steak (double) and cheese.. the item cost me 3.74 but again, it was 5 breakfasts worth of food.. what somebody else would eat in one meal. It truly is worth it in the end!

    Rewards

I too believe in rewards, but I too do not want to keep spending on clothes that will be so short lived. Try rewarding yourself with spa days or an overnight trip somewhere not too far from home.. I am buying stuff, but stuff a few sizes smaller only because I liked it so much and I will wear it in a month or so. But I believe those items may be short lived too. I will find out soon enough!

    shocking the system

I agree 100%. I am not saying I will never have that piece of cake or cookie or brownie for that matter. But I also agree 100% that I have no plans to sabotage my surgery or plan. Every person looks at it differently. I do think that for those that have no control over moderation, should not attempt it at all as it can lead to two or three or every week. I was never a sweets person prior to surgery. I do not see myself being one after. My biggest issue before surgery was cleaning my plate as I was raised to do so even if I was full. That is what I still struggle with even though my plate portions are extremely smaller, but I am learning day by day. We each have our own struggles, and we each have to deal with them pre and post surgery just the same.. the issue being we never dealt with them pre surgery hence why we needed the surgery...

    Everything is Disgusting 😕

I did not have the RNY, but i find that i cannot tolerate the food i used to love. I have almost reverted to tuna and salmon a lot... today i am going to make meatballs since i cannot eat more than 12 ounces of tuna a week. I cannot do chicken at all, nor pork.. Steak only and only if very thin sliced. It is a constant learning process.
  19. I hope you feel better soon. As GreenTea said you are relatively new to the surgery process. You can make it through this. Do not allow this to change your mentality and put you in a place that you think you have failed so soon as it may lead you back to bad eating habits. Keep trucking along! You got this!

    Gastric sleeve

Welcome, Congratulations, and look for the board for Feb Sleevers? Every month there is a new thread for all the folks getting surgery during the month of each of ours. It helps to also be part of a thread where others are going through the same stages are you are at the same time.

    A little scared

The only answer i can give you is to pray about it and do your research! Once you do all of that and you get your final answer and you know it is right for you, the fear goes away completely.

Starting WLS journey as a vegan

For when you get to the food stage.. my son is a vegetarian, I know it is a little different than a vegan, but if you have an Aldi near you, they have a brand called earth grown.. that has a lot of vegan items.. meatless meat.. I buy a lot of it for him and i have even tried it.. very tasty.

So I cheated on my pre-op diet

Every doctor is different on what they require patients to do prior to surgery. It also depends on our weight and all as the patient. The doctor is trying to shrink the liver so he can work on the stomach without complications. I do not recommend cheating as it will only hinder you in the long run.

    Motivation to eat

I am almost 3 months post op and still struggle to get all my water and protein in. There are some days i dont make it.. but most days i do. I too am never hungry but my tool is starting to send me its time to eat signals. I am starting to get the hiccups if i go to long without eating as well. I do get 3 meals in a day.. though they are quite small. Most days i get in the 64 ounces, but have missed a day here and there. I have to use timers and eat on a schedule. If i do not.. i get way off track and it is hard to get back on schedule.
  25. Why is it that our head tries to play games?? Especially when it comes to our weight loss! I am very happy with my progress overall, but each week it is a mind battle for my head to accept where i am on this journey. Last week when i weighed in, it was 59 pounds loss total.. Great! Not so great! Why was it not 60? My mind wanted it to be 60 and it was not so i was disappointed in myself.. ok.. great! Next week it will be over 60 and i will be happy. I weighed this morning ( A day early) because it was killing me i didn't get on the scale all week on purpose to try and go a week without weighing LOL.. Anyways.. result.. Down 3.2 ( and i still have tomorrow to go, but if no change ok) but now my mind says.. you are not in the 230s yet.. Need to lose another 1.6 to get there. So now i sit here thinking.. What can i do today to impact that 1.6 by tomorrow since official weigh in is tomorrow.. Seriously! Brain.. Get a life! This is great you aren't even 3 months out yet and you put on a size 16 dress.. ( even though I couldn't breathe) lol it still fit, but not correctly.. it will not be long before i can actually wear it in public.. Oh the mind games!!!
