    From the album: Me

  2. So before you judge, please hear me out. I'm 19 years old. I have been overweight my whole life (literally, you should see my baby pictures). I've tried dieting and exercising. Neighter works. Right now i weigh 302 lbs and my BMI is 48. I'm scared that soon i'll get diabetes because both my parents have it as well as my cousin, aunt, and uncle. I think my doctor is surprised that i haven't got it because everytime i go in i have to do a blood test to make sure. I'm also starting to have other issues. I have "woman issues" and think i have sleep apnea, I'm going to do my sleep study in the next month. Not to mention i can't even make it up the staires without gasping for air. Other than my health I also feel like because of my weight i've missed out on many opportunities that other teens got to have. I want to be able to enjoy my life. I feel like because of my weight people aren't comfortable approaching me eventhough i'm a very out going and fun person to be around. I've talked to my parents about lap band and they're behind me all the way if i'm sure. My insurance will also cover it. However i think my doctor will be hesitant about referring me because of my age. Does anyone have any suggestion to what i should say to my doctor to have him behind me on this? I've research this for 2 years so i am completely sure this is right for me.

    Teenager

Hey! I'm 19 and i know what your talking about. I'm thinking about this surgery too and i know what it feels like to be overweight as a teenager. I've been overweight my whole life. I've heard of younger teen getting this surgery in like Mexico but i don't think you can in the U.S. Honestly i'm a little worried my doctor won't refer me because i'm a teen too. I think that's completely unfair though.
  4. I have a question about this doctor. I'm thinking about going to her. I've looked around at some of the different surgeons in Seattle. Like the Swedish hospital requires you to do all these diets before you can be consider for lap band. Did you had to do anything before you do this proceture with her that's required?
  5. I don't think i'll do it right away or anything. I'll try execising first. Like get an actual trainer or something. It's just hard because i am an active person, i play sports at school, i tried dieting, i'm working out, and it's still not working. My dad think diet pills are waste of money & i know he'd support me on this because we talked about it as an option. He was really obese. i think he was almost 400 lbs....but he went on a diet because his daibetes was getting bad and he was having other conditions too. now he's around 250. So he knows what i go through.
  6. I'm only 17 [18 in May] and i started thinking about the surgery after my dad actually sat down and talk to me about my weight. My uncle, aunt, cousin, dad and recently my mom found out she have diabetes and my doctor started worrying about me getting it. My uncle died from it. I was always chubby and i had astma when i was little. I missed so much because of my weight. I'm scared to do things. I don't feel pretty anymore & i'm tired of missing out on everything. I've basically missed out my whole teen years. I've been doing research on this & it might be my only choice. I've tried execising & dieting...it got to the point where i slept all day so i won't eat anything.... Do you think i should consider it?
