Shrinking the liver
mousecat88 replied to Mrs.Braxton<3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed to eat 3 shakes a day and a Healthy Choice/Atkins meal that was under 300 calories for 15 days prior (I may have cheated a few times, oh well. Bad patient me.) Could have no food the day prior. I found it weird I even had to follow a pre-op diet since my liver was normal-sized and not fatty whatsoever. *shrug* Standard protocol, I guess. Good luck with your surgery! -
Tomorrow will be exactly 6 weeks since surgery and if I am down 8 more ounces by tomorrow (which I anticipate, given that I can't eat jack today because of some horribleness that happened last night), I will hit 30lbs lost in 6 weeks. I guess that is good. But I'm still going to complain. lmao. I'm going to complain right up until I hit 140... forewarning. There's a long road of WHY IS THIS HAPPENING SO SLOWLY threads in the coming year. Just sayin.

Ugh, I know. I don't *really* want one. But some days it is challenging getting hydrated. I shoot for 50oz a day, which I usually meet. But the days I don't... I feel like the Sahara Desert. lol. Like today. Today is a desert day. Also I am jealous your diet allows you to have potatoes! Jellllyyyy.

Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?
mousecat88 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That is the complete opposite of what my surgeon and team stress. Every single thing I buy must be nonfat or lowfat for the rest of my life. Eventually I can have more, like nuts, etc. Everyone has different programs. No one seems to have the same recommended diet. Do whatever your surgeon tells you to do. Ultimately that is who you should listen to... not anyone from a forum or some YouTuber. The MayoClinic site also confirms that high fat diets cause dumping: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/gastric-bypass-surgery/in-depth/gastric-bypass-diet/art-20048472 amongst many other websites. Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?
mousecat88 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Honestly my dietitian would have rather me gotten protein in than go slightly over the recommended fat content. She did force me to try a bunch of others first, but they all made me super sick. Post-op, the Atkins also started making me sick, but likely not due to the fat content (I have a whey allergy). I LOVE soy protein. I think they all taste like brownie or pancake batter. lol. They are a little grainy, but meh. Oh, and for real, on my pre-op diet I majorly cheated like 4 times and had Burger King and Taco Bell and texmex and all kinds of other crap. You're not ruining anything. Don't worry. lol. -
I am on both Carafate and Prilosec for now for the ulcer. I recently (like last Thursday) sent my daily meals to the dietitians and surgeon to confirm that I am eating correctly and they both replied that I am doing great and I am eating the right choices.
-
My manual and both dietitians say I should be at 400 calories a day and 800-1000 is the long-term goal by 8 months. I do feel more comfortable following my surgeon and dietitian's instructions, but I appreciate the offer.

Since surgery I've definitely felt worse than I have in a long time. lol! I am nonstop nauseous from the ulcer. I hate it so much. Last night, as seen in my other thread, I vomited nothingness in the middle of the night for no reason. I doubt taking vitamins longterm will be an issue for me. I'm so used to taking a billion pills so what's 3 more? lol. I hope I get past this mental block... maybe when I see some greater weight loss, I'll feel better about it. Yeah... my entire diet plan is very low. Must buy the low or nonfat options of everything... cheeses... dairy... lean meats... no fatty bacon or full fat cheese or anything, ever. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -

I lost 60lbs on Atkins last year. You can't follow similar diets. And Atkins is all about fat. You really need to watch carbs, sugar, and fat post-op unless you want to poop forever. loll Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Yeah, but fat post-op with cause dumping. That's why your diet will be low carb and low fat. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?
mousecat88 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The only thing my dietitian grumbled about is that the regular Atkins is 7g fat and the shakes should be 3g or less. But I wasn't tolerating the others so she was like whatever. lol. I don't know how much fat is in these. The fat content didn't bother me... ultimately it ended up I can't tolerate anything with whey at all... including Atkins. wompwomp. I messaged into my surgeon about a nausea medication because I have Zofran from immediately post-op, but it does nothing. Just don't understand why I would suddenly wake up so sick when I obviously hadn't eaten or drank anything... Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

I have an ulcer and I am on Carafate and Prilosec. I was pulled off Pepcid in exchange for Prilosec once I was diagnosed with the ulcer. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?
mousecat88 replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Theres nothing wrong with these. I drank Atkins shakes for a while post-op. These just have lactose in them. Some people cant tolerate it after surgery, some can. I dont even drink whey anything anymore, just soy. Egg and rice protein is fine, too. Pea protein needs to be supplemented with amino acids. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm not reducing calories. I'm eating the number of calories my surgeon told me to. I can't each much more anyways, even if I was allowed, because of my marginal ulcer. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

I just had surgery a month ago. I'm not in a relationship currently. I'm 30 years old. I don't have any plans on ever having a child, but if I did... I have a huge concern now given the bypass. My mother gained 100lbs when she was pregnant with me when she was 22 (she ate very healthily, but her hormones went nuts). She is just now losing that weight... 30 years later. I am terrified that would happen to me and destroy any potential weight loss success I've had. Has this happened to anyone that has gotten pregnant? Is this a concern for anyone?

Ditto the previous poster - my surgeon and OBGYN both said two years before trying because of the risk of malnutrition to you and the baby, and potential developmental issues. I would consult both of those people.

Nutrition Change HELP!! Gout is killing me with my protein intake
mousecat88 replied to jrmolina2006's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Obviously consult your surgeon, but my surgeon said not to even worry about remotely reaching protein goals for a few months. I am at about 40g a day. I'm female, and much shorter than you so definitely wouldn't cut back that far, lol. But cutting down a good amount I doubt would do much harm. -
Maybe that's why I have unreasonable expectations for surgery. Because I have dieted... a lot... and always was somewhat successful... it just wasn't sustainable long-term. That's also why I didn't have much support for this surgery, because my friends and family had seen me lose a large amount of weight on my own.

Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?
mousecat88 replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hahaha... my surgeon is chubby. Not bariatric surgery size chubby. But he is definitely a round-faced dude (pic of him on my profile). Several of his staff have had WLS. Most are average-sized... but I'm not sure which have had the surgery and which haven't. -

Recent Post Op Having Issues with Liquids
mousecat88 replied to TeeMillz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try warm/hot liquids. I am almost 6 weeks out and still can't tolerate anything cold. It's weird to get used to, but feels good. lol. -
I'm in a private FB group with people that all had surgery the same time as me. And I see them posting about their weight loss and I know I should be happy for them, and I am, but I also get really upset at myself and I've thought about leaving the group numerous times. I feel similarly about this forum, but there's legit medical questions and stuff I do ask about.
