Thank you so much for the detailed reply! Since surgery, my acne has actually gotten exponentially worse, like you mentioned! I have seen a dermatologist who put me on a topical right now. He wants me on Spironolactone but my surgeon said no for at least a year since it's a diuretic. My face is a cystic, painful nightmare!! I haven't noticed an increase in oil production; my hair is actually now quite dry where it used to be oily. But my face... man... I feel like a teen boy. I am new to this whole PCOS thing, so I haven't heard of Diane-35 before.

Keto Diet with weight loss surgery - What are your thoughts about it?
mousecat88 replied to erics300's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Realistically, it seems like the long-term WLS diet IS essentially keto. With the exception of the addition of some dairy that is not allowed in keto diets (like milks and yogurts and certain fruit). I wonder if I am in ketosis currently given that I've only been eating proteins primarily. Those OTC ketone sticks... I have no idea how accurate they really are. -
Can an admin please delete my post "PCOS and WLS" from The Gal's Room? I posted it elsewhere and need this duplicate thread deleted. Sorry about that!

Just a few years ago I was 130lbs. I didn't become overweight until I was 21ish... and not obese until 25ish (I am 30 now). Most people have been overweight or obese their whole life... not just a few years... so I have a unique perspective. I was even the a*****e teen who used to make fun of fat people behind their backs. I was awful to people. I was awful to my own mother who was overweight and used to tell her to her face I hoped I would never be that size. Jokes on me because I am now 70lbs heavier than she is. I definitely 100000% notice a massive change in the interactions with men between when I was thin and fit to being obese. Yes, 100000% men were much more flirty and took things I said sexually or like I was interested in them, when that wasn't the case whatsoever. I think it was on their end, wanting to think a very attractive person was interested in them. Now, not a single soul I talk to treats me like I am being flirtatious. It's a complete 180. The world is judgmental and biased against the obese. And it sucks for me because I remember so clearly how well I was treated by everyone when I was skinny, and how invisible I am now. People are going to talk to you differently and act differently around you; it's just ingrained. Don't change a single thing about yourself and just roll with it.

Keto Diet with weight loss surgery - What are your thoughts about it?
mousecat88 replied to erics300's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was on a strict keto diet last year and lost a lot of weight (60lbs in 5 months). But keto is big on fats, and fats aren't so awesome for RNY patients. I am obviously a "newbie" post-op... but I was told to stay lowfat/nonfat/lean meats forever. I don't know if a keto diet would work the same with low fat? But I guess if it doesn't upset your stomach than it would be fine. -
Yeah, that brief few sentences of positivity is about all I've got.

The nurse is trying to track down the surgeon to call in some Phenergan. I probably did just have some one-off overproduction of stomach acid. I am taking Prilosec and Carafate, so it's frustrating that happened... I woke up in a sudden state of panic. Totally random.

And honestly, I know I b***h about my ulcer because life is unjust... but since I started the meds, it doesn't bother me so much. Yeah, I have to be on bland, crap puree for way longer than I should have to... BUT it's definitely taught me a) portion control, b) how to ignore my cravings, and c) how to stick to a really strict diet. So... brightside?

Haha pooping at work is the best. You get paid to poop! I mean, I wouldn't want gross, excessive pooping at work. Or pooping without making it to the bathroom. But regular pooping... the best. I have started carrying spare underwear in my purse, though... just in case. Hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed.
-
I only had the dumping because my then-undiagnosed ulcer didn't like the cream in the soup. It's a totally normal food post-op otherwise. I had the cream of chicken. I DID try the cream of broccoli a week later but it still made me nauseous and had maybe 3 spoons worth so... nahhhh. My boss has also gained back like 50lbs so. There's that. Sigh. I don't even think he takes vitamins anymore.
-
It was actually a recommended food for me on full liquids, BUT I read later than cream can really upset an ulcer (which at the time I didn't know I had)... so I think I had some weird... dumping-like reaction because I have the ulcer and the cream didn't sit well. Once the ulcer heals, I can probably have it... but.... no. lol.

One of my bosses had gastric 6 years ago or so, and he will still go get milkshakes and slushies on occasion KNOWING he will get sick. He always says he ends up pooping, though. I guess it can go either way! He still does it though. smh. lol. I had a reaction 2 weeks out from campbells condensed soup and was shaking/shivering for 4 hours straight and will NEVER HAVE CAMPBELLS SOUP AGAIN. lol. That stuff happens ONE TIME and you never want it to again. Unless you're my boss, I guess.

First Real Challenging Food Day: WAKE UP CALL!
mousecat88 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There's a used version on Amazon for 5$! The book new is less than 10. So good. -
As someone who just vomited last night, I feel well-equipped to answer this question. lmao. Womp womp. I've puked twice since surgery and both times I don't think I had food in my stomach (it passes through quickly). It feels the same, though. Both times I just had a bit of mucus and spit comes out. The heaving feeling is identical. I feel so paranoid I am going to rip something now, though, although I don't think that is actually possible. So soon post-op, though, I do check for blood just in case something is awry. You have such a small pouch, it's pretty uneventful what comes up, but I still have similar... projection... into the toilet. lol. I usually have a bit of mucus come up, and the rest is just me spitting out excess saliva. So... the trashcan theory is possible maybe? You really shouldn't puke though. It's not really common at all. The first time it was my fault, I did something really stupid that I'm not going to mention LOL... last night was some freak occurrence with no real reason identified yet. Basically just uncomfortable dry-heaving. In sum: You're never going to Exorcist vomit all over a bathroom and have to clean up.

First Real Challenging Food Day: WAKE UP CALL!
mousecat88 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am not one for therapy or self-help junk... but I have to say that I did read the book Never Binge Again (and it's not just about binge eating, but dealing with cravings... which was my issue)... and it is the most amazing book I've ever read. It is funny and realistic and awesome. It's cheap and on Amazon and pretty short... check it out! I actually have only read half and the first few chapters of his no-nonsense tips and logic have virtually squashed all cravings I've had (given me REAL tools to make them disappear). The author was an obese psychologist who worked for "Big Food" making food more addictive to the consumer... who eventually lost a ton of weight and realized how eff'd up his job was and decided to help people lose weight instead. -
I just shot them a message about it, replying to the messages re: the vomiting and nausea. To be continued...
-
I know it's not much... but I've actually impressed myself with getting the 26oz down so far since 10am. That is A LOT for me in such a short time frame. And I've been very nauseous and still plugging away at it.
-
Oh, I talked to my surgeon's office this morning. They are just giving me phenergan for now. I didn't think to mention the poop issue because, again, I don't think about it since I don't have any discomfort at all. My hesitation about taking a stronger laxative is because I am scared a stimulant might irritate the ulcer situation... so maybe try a more conservative approach first? I guess I answered my own question with that. lol. The manual is for people without complications. Water intake has not been swell the last 3 days... again... because of the stupid stomach pain. I am working on it today, though. I got 26oz down so far and hope to get another 26 down in the next 4 hours... which will be more than I get nearly any other day. Could just all be a water intake issue. I guess tomorrow I will try Colace and go from there.
-
I don't know how you do it. I have one relatively minor complication and I am like MY WORLD IS ENDING, LIFE IS SO UNFAIR. And you are just plowing right along. You are my hero. lol!
-
Yeah, that's a lot! What is that... 12 ounces? I'm currently at 2 per meal... eventually going to 6-8.
-
Oh, I didn't take it that way! No offense. I just try to stick to my doc's recommendations 100%. I figure they've had thousands of successful patients over who knows how long so they must do something right!

Blood Pressure Increase AFTER Surgery?
mousecat88 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe check it on your own at CVS every so often just to keep tabs between appointments and if it continues to go up in the next month, talk to them about it again. I figured it went up due to stress and trauma on the body? I'm just making that up though to justify the weird drastic increase I had. lol. Makes sense though. In my mind. -
Blood Pressure Increase AFTER Surgery?
mousecat88 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THIS. The exact same thing happened to me! I had low BP pre-op, or perfect. It was always like 110/70. Never in my life had high BP. Post-op, it was regularly 160/100 and crazy numbers (to me). They still said it wasn't *high enough* to warrant BP meds, but scared the crap out of me because my BP had always been perfect. I am 6 weeks out now, and it seems to be lowering. My last check was 135/90 ish... so almost normal. The nurse said she had never seen someone's BP go UP after surgery.... guess we're anomalies. -
Multivitamin
mousecat88 replied to Lovingmyselfforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bariatric Advantage vitamins are so expensive too. There are so many equivalent and better options out there. Celebrate is decent, but a bit expensive (much cheaper than BA, though). I have some Celebrate wafer calcium vitamins I haven't tried yet, and immediately post-op I took the Celebrate powder multivitamin, but it was too much to drink and kinda sour, so I switched the Unjury chewable. -
Multivitamin
mousecat88 replied to Lovingmyselfforever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my multivitamin. It is once a day. It's made by Unjury and called Opurity Optimized for Sleeve/Bypass. It's a chewable. A 90 day supply is only 28 bucks! I take that a lunch time, a 65mg iron, and 600 mg of calcium twice a day.
