    Birth Control Options

I have Mirena. I've had Mirena for 5 years now. The first 4 years I had it, I loved it and had NO PERIODS YAYYYYY. I got it taken out when I was diagnosed with pseudotumor because apparently levonogesterol can cause that, but decided eff it and had it put back in last October. I've had random one day sporadic periods once in a while. It's annoying because there is no rhyme or reason to it, other than it seems to happen when I am under a LOT of stress. I got a random one day period pre-op back in July... but have had 4 random one/two day periods since surgery 11/1. My hormones are overtaking the IUD's power. lol. BUT, still much less annoying than dealing with a period on a regular basis. You do not have to check the IUD periodically. The OBGYN can see it at your annual visits. I recommend it to everyone.

    chugging water

It is really frustrating because I am SO. THIRSTY. basically all the time. But once the nausea kicks in, I can't stomach any water so need to wait it out, which could be hours. And then I want to chug, but that hurts, too. =( Ughhhh. My best day will be when I can actually finish my 22oz thermos in my 8 hour work day.

    Clock app. And move app

So I was looking on Baritastic and noticed it had "groups" and you could invite people based on email address to these groups. Is that like the friends thing on MFP? Like if I added someone to this group, could I stalk their food logs? Who wants to be my guinea pig? lol.

    I cheated [emoji45]

Not saying it's okay, but I cheated several times on my pre-op diet (Burger King... Taco Bell... pizza....) and I'm doing fantastically these past two months sticking to my new lifestyle. I don't miss anything or want any of that junk. You didn't ruin anything. What matters truly is if you can mentally handle the changes post-op.

    chugging water

Ohhh I am still on teeny tiny sips because the ulcer situation. Hurts like cray cray if I take larger sips. Still on hot water, too. I figured tiny sips were a forever thing.
  7. 7.5 weeks here... hard: getting my water is still impossible and meeting protein is improving but challenging. Also wasn't "anticipating" an ulcer so that's been annoying, pain-wise. Not weighing daily is a struggle. Finding a good, non-whey protein was hard due to my allergy. New poop habits can be a challenge, lol. Not drinking within 30 min of eating is hard because I am thirsty. Easy: Had NO gas pain at all post-op... so that was easy. Have no cravings anymore. Very easy to control any hunger. No desire to snack. No desire to switch up foods. All that has been super easy... following an ultra strict regimen. Eating out easier than expected, no temptation. wisdom my from drunk bff

Hahaha I would never actually do this. My friends are grateful because they usually end up with my leftovers since it's still multiple meals-worth of food for me. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Life without NSAIDS?

Update on the topical Diclofenac. My right knee, hip, and ankle were murdering me a bit ago and I applied some to my knee and ankles and the topical NSAID actually helped some. Nothing like pounding prescription NSAIDS or 2400mg of Ibuprofen... but it did provide some relief! First time since surgery I've had a flareup. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Preface: All my bosses (I have 6) know I recently had gastric bypass (7 weeks ago today). Christmas presents have been trickling in... so far I've received... 1) A large basket of candy 2) Panera and Dairy Queen gift cards (My mom and stepdad have called dibs) 3) Sparkling cider (Regifting to my aunt next week) 4) A tropical pine tree that must stay indoors and grows to 15' tall (everyone else got candied nuts, but I guess he paid attention and realized I couldn't have those) I cannot stop laughing at my little (eventually gigantic) tree. I've named him Stu. He's covered on confetti and on my desk. It's the thought that counts, guys. lmao. Ohhhh my.

Anyone have no issues with plain water?

Honestly, my first 2 weeks I only managed like... 15oz a day. I could have sworn I was dehydrated. I felt pretty rough and my urine was darkkkk. I had labs done but my electrolytes and kidneys were perfect despite the very low water intake. So, they said not to worry. After that, I tried to get it more warm broths... didn't start protein shakes until 4 weeks. Every liquid counts, not just water. I try to remember that because of water I usually only get 30oz a day at most... but I also have my shakes. I am still low... in the 50s... but not dehydrated. Building it up slowly over time. Haven't needed an IV. If for whatever reason you struggle with water, remember that popsicles count and shakes and soups and broths. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Having trouble with eating

I measure/weigh virtually everything. If I can't, I try to eat verrryyy slowly and usually know that 4-6 bites is the limit. I've eaten too fast just once and gotten sick. A few times a tiny bit too much and it is uncomfortable. Learning curve. But yeah... I try to pre-portion everything I can... I even eat out of measuring cups half the time. lol Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hot sauce junkies.

I had a ton of fairly expensive hot sauces from pre-op and they are all gunna go bad (no preservatives). I am heartbroken. lol. My favorite hot sauces are from Heartbreaking Dawns and I can't wait until the day I can douse everything in their sweet (spicy) nectar. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hot sauce junkies.

I know having seasonings and spices are fine after surgery, but what about serious hot sauces? I asked my nutritionist about it, and she was like "oh, curry powder and red pepper flakes are fine!" No, no. I meant like Trinidad Scorpion/Carolina Reaper Death Sauce kind of hot sauce. Start-crying-when-you-smell-it hot sauce. Currently, I don't get any upset stomach from any level of the Scoville. I douse crazy hot sauce on pretty much everything. Anyone a hot sauce junkie? Can you tolerate it post-op?

    Hot sauce junkies.

Yah, food doesn't cause ulcers... but when you HAVE an ulcer.. you can't have spicy food. I can't even tolerate pepper right now! The littlest kick of anything is utter misery. Bland nation. ;( Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    MRE Lite Shakes

THESE SHAKES ARE AMAZING. HOW DO THEY MAKE COW AND SALMON TASTE LIKE APPLE PIE? I DUNNO. DONT THINK ABOUT IT, JUST BUY IT. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Discovered a new animal-based, non-dairy (hence no whey) protein! Ordered Dutch apple pie and oatmeal chocolate chip. 2g fat, 4g carbs, 133 cals, 24g protein. Got awesome reviews! Also came with a free hoodie, lol. Made by Recon1. I can't tolerate whey so I am pumped for an alternative to my Now Sports Soy. Anyone try these? I think they're brand new. 100 lbs in under a year?

I tell myself that it will take the 18 months to get near my goal. Which would be April 1 2020. So far away! lol.

I wish Baritastic had a friends... thing... like MFP does so I can stalk other people's food logs. lol.

    How do sleevers get RNY?

I'm just having a hard time picturing the logistics due to the size of the stomach that is left, I guess. I need a graphic representation of this procedure specifically. lol.
  21. so brilliant. i've made like 40 miscellaneous threads with my random rantings. i like to make people work. you should see the bypass FB group i am in. i am 85% of all content.

    Smoking

I can't answer about the weed, but I can tell you I had no pain post-op except for muscle soreness. Wasn't even worth taking Tylenol for. Just felt like I did a billion sit-ups. You'd think this kind of surgery would be painful, but it really isn't... at least in my experience. Tylenol is all they said to take. I had an rx for Percocet but took 2 or 3 just for the hell of it and it didn't do anything to help with muscle soreness. The soreness is totally bearable. I never had gas pain either, but pain meds wouldn't help with that anyways... just walking and farting.
  23. I fortunately never experienced really any medical discrimination due to my weight. Every single doctor would always MENTION my weight, but always listened to me and treated my problems and didn't blame them on my weight. The only time anyone ever said anything that upset me was when my OBGYN mentioned that being obese means I would struggle to have kids (this was during the time I was baby crazy and actually wanted one). I cried for like 3 days straight. I don't even want kids anymore so whatevaaaa. But it's pretty annoying when every doctor points out your size. Like, yes, I realize I am obese. I see myself every day, thanks. When I was diagnosed with pseudotumor, the neuroopthamologist said if I lost 10% of my body weight it would go away. Except, before I saw him, I had lost 30% of my body weight and still had it. I told him that and he didn't believe me. He is still convinced it will go away when I lose more weight. I dunno if it will or not. I also have Mirena which causes it (class action lawsuits going on now), and he refused to investigate that possibility. I had the Mirena out for a few months, but decided to put it back because periods suck. When I was 140lbs doctors would shame me for my weight constantly because I was considered overweight for my height by like 5lbs. It made me really depressed and contributed to my eating disorders, eventually ACTUALLY creating the obese-me.
  24. Crush up the Oxy and put it in some yogurt or applesauce. They gave me a gigantic horsepill of Potassium post-op and said I had to either break it into fourths to take it or crush it and put it in applesauce. They gave me Percs and I only took like 2 or 3 of them. Just had muscle pains and I found pain meds don't help with that.

    Social outings suck now

I eat so slowly that I finish my few bites the same time they wolf down their entire meals. I am not a big drinker, so going to a bar during the day has been a non-issue... I just have water. I probably won't go to clubs or anything anymore because I am an introvert and HAVE to drink to feel comfortable partying. But since I don't really like going anyways, I don't really care. Looking forward to doing outdoors things with friends instead, movies, hiking, shopping, or still eating out, etc. If your friends don't want to do other things with you than eff them... they aren't real friends.
