Making a Bariatric Pal Order: Any "Must Try" Products?
mousecat88 replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a tonnnn of bariatricpal stuff at home but haven't been able to try much yet, only the sloppy joe entree, which I really like. My mother is diabetic and orders their food and says the pancake mix is really good, the lentil and chicken curries, veggie chili, and the mushroom soup. She also gets the jerkies. I did try the tomato soup and found it off. -
Do arm lifts only focus on tightening and removing skin from the triceps, or does it also include fat on the biceps? I imagine tightening the bottom would also pull the skin taut on the top, but I have an actual fat roll on my biceps. It actually creases and gets red. I know I am a long ways away, but I have some of the largest arms I've ever seen on an obese person and I know they will be my #1 go-to when I have plastics. You can see my pre-op arms in my album on my profile for reference.

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
mousecat88 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did not have a supervised diet. I went in, did the consult, did all the pre-op appointments in less than 2 months, then surgery. I was given a very, very large manual (like 200 pages) that describes all of the nutrition and exercise and mental health stuff. I did meet with the psychiatrist, the nutritionist twice, and had to watch some videos. I felt like I was prepared, though, and haven't had any problems following the book. If I have a question, I shoot them an email, but it's always an unusual question that has to do with my complication or just some off the wall thing most people probably don't think to ask, ever. lol. I've talked to a disturbing amount of people that don't have a manual, though. No guidance at all on portion sizes or what foods are safe or how long their stages should be. That is scary to me and I don't know why anyone would pay a program without... getting a program. -
Yeah, Unjury is super gross. lol.

I can't even explain my (former) Taco Bell addiction. 7 layer burritos, chicken chipotle grillers, potato soft tacos, and 5 layer burritos were basically my staple diet far too often. lol. Yes, all at the same time. Anytime I would go on a binge, it would almost always be Taco Bell. Taco Love.

I just cannot wait for my appointment on the 7th. I decided to keep a log of each time I get nauseous, starting today, so he has an idea of the frequency. I have no clue if it's the ulcer anymore or what. It's so deterring trying to swallow anything when you KNOW it's going to make you sick. You'd think I would be rail thin by now! lol.

Liquacel does not taste good. LOL. I recommend the peach mango or watermelon if you get any. If you go to the manufacturers site, you can get a sample of all 5 flavors for 5$. It is not a "complete" protein (it's collagen), so it can't fully replace protein shakes, but good if you need a boost for the day or if you are traveling short-term. Unjury sells individual shake packets, too. Liquacel is nice because it is one ounce and you're done. But it tastes like medicinal goop. Bearable... You don't have to mix it with anything. In fact I recommend you don't. The flavor is not good and it is thick gel. Just slurp it from the pouch in 2 seconds and be done. Like taking cold medicine.

Just diet and exercise. WOW! Never considered that.
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Rants & Raves
Even before I considered WLS, thin "friends" that can literally eat garbage 24/7 would always tell me "calories in, calories out" and "you just need to exercise more", etc etc, as if I didn't KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ALREADY ABOUT NUTRITION. Thanks, Ms. Perfect, for the advice. Kill me now. lol. -

Oh geeze! I would have slapped him with the Christmas ham. Must be easy living a life with no problems in it whatsoever. 🙄 -
I haven't had either, but I don't know if I would want anything else messing with or being inserted into my GI system when I already had issues in that area. If I had an option and was in a similar situation, I think I would opt for the PICC. Did they put it in the bend of your arm? That would be really annoying...

Has this happened since you posted? I just heard about this thing called Candy Cane Syndrome where some people develop a tiny second pouch a year or so out from surgery that holds food and medicine without letting it get down further.

I want the full 360 lift with the butt, tummy, thighs, hips... and then my arms. Part of me wishes they'd do it all at once so I could just get it over with, BUT, I know that the skin removals are extremely painful and I don't want to be totally immobilized... so two procedures is probably best, even if they would do it all at the same time.

My insurance company was billed $45,000ish between the surgeon's fee and the hospital fee (lol). I paid $1350 out of pocket. That doesn't include the pre-op visits which I paid $35 bucks each for and maybe like $200 for the labs pre-op.

There are some things I do say I will "never" have again, simply because I need that structure and regimen to stay on the straight and narrow. But some things we simply enjoy and having them on occasion isn't the end all be all of everything we are working for. And even those "never" things, if I slip up later on... again, it's not the end all be all. There are a couple of tough personalities on this forum that took a minute for me to get used to, but I love everyone now. lol. I think my most eff you moment was during pre-op and I think I mentioned that I had cheated on it and wasn't sure if I was ready (just my nerves talking) and a few people were like IF YOU CHEAT NOW YOU ARE DOOMED (less dramatically, though) and I DON'T THINK YOU ARE READY FOR THIS AT ALL. Etc etc. But, I am doing just fine. I didn't screw myself over by cheating on my pre-op. My life isn't ruined. My surgery isn't ruined. I am, mentally, doing just kosher and very thankful I had the surgery. Everything I was worried about pre-op has been a complete non-issue. I am, and maybe by virtue of complications, more strict to this new diet than a lot of others who had surgery around a similar time as I did. Sometimes you have to take things that people say with a grain of salt... they are living their own experience and you yours.

Wendy's. Their burgers are so gross to me! Weird peppery seasoning on them or something? I don't even know. I also think Chipotle is way overrated. We have a Chipotle and also a local place that has the exact same "model" as Chipotle and just tasting the difference in the quality and the amount you get for your money at the local place... Chipotle doesn't hold a candle to it. NOBODY BETTER TOUCH MY TACO BELL, THOUGH.

I just tell myself that this is how it is for everyone. lol! It's easy not to eat when it hurts to, so I really don't mind it. It's the new normal.

I've gone on several dates from online sites and none of them were "bad". They didn't work out or anything, but no different than randomly meeting someone out in the real world. You never truly know what you're going to get. lol. The people I've ever actually dated I always met through friends. And let me just say that my friends, personally, have a crappy choice in men for me, so I don't recommend relying on your friends to hook you up with anyone. LOL. I'm hoping that somehow, magically, me just going to work and going straight home every day... someone will just happen to fall into my lap without me putting in any effort whatsoever. Maybe the paid online dating sites are better than the free ones? Maybe people are more serious when they are paying for the subscription. I may try that some day. Match or something.

When I was skinny I was told often I looked like Zooey Deschanel. Also basically any famous woman with bangs. lol.

I'm down! Make sure to bumpy bumpify this thread on Jan 2nd so we all remember. lol! Well, me anyways. I'm counting on you. haha.

Clothing while you're losing weight
mousecat88 replied to xMissyChrissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe if you're concerned ask about Actigall. It's to prevent any gallstones from forming when you're going through the rapid weight loss period of the first 6 months. I'm scared of having my gallbladder removed. Moreso than I was this surgery. Irrational, I know. lol. -
Stigma may keep people from getting weight loss surgery
mousecat88 replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My OBGYN mentioned bypass to me numerous times, even when I was much smaller. I found it sort of offensive at the time. SO many people think it's an easy way out... but this is a billion times harder than any diet. Because with a diet, you can always slide off the ride if you really want to. There's no sliding off this ride... without serious repercussions. This is the strictest regimen I've ever followed and I've certainly never had complications from "mere" dieting. -

Do they have you on gallstone dissolving meds? I'm on them for 6 months (Actigall). They put everyone on it, no matter starting size. I already have gallstones but they aren't stuck anywhere that will cause trouble (for now), so no need to get it removed. -
I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with Christmas going to be a little strange around table sipping on my protein shake..This to will pass

I had 1oz of shrimp dip and 1oz of port wine cheese. Everyone else shoveled in ham, mac n cheese, rolls, Chick Fil A catered nuggets, spicy green beans, deviled eggs, etc etc. I just looked at them like they were total freakos because HOW THE HECK DO THEY FIT ALL THAT IN? And everyone else looked at my plate and told me they wished they could eat just that small of an amount. I think they felt more awkward than I did. I was like two bites, done. And look at ya'll. SMH. JUDGEYYYYY. lmao. -
I can smell plastics super strong now. It's weird. I threw away a cheapo cup I had the other day because it just smelled too plasticky. Probably saved myself from some Chinese spray chemicals I never noticed before.
