I am in ketosis by virtue of my bariatric diet (and confirmed via labwork). I ordered some exogenous ketone supplements. Are they going to "boost" the fat-burning or are they just bull? They were only 12 bucks so *shrug* Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Day 10: Tomorrow is yoga day, D*MMIT! lol! I did 10 on-my-knees pushups yesterday at the gym. I can do pretty much everything just fine except darn pushups. Bah.

Calling all Equestrians
mousecat88 replied to Impromptu's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stopped riding when I hit 220 because I felt bad for the horses. LOL. But I did ride for years and years, and I am excited to start again. I would wait until at least 8 weeks out to let your core muscles heal from the incisions. It's not so much the surgical procedures itself, but the incision sites will be sore and you want those muscles to heal back well and also not develop a hernia. I think I was cleared for core exercises around 6 weeks... but I'd wait to 8 to be safe, given how much a workout riding is on those muscles. If you are anxious to get back on sooner, ride Western so you're not posting. -
Insurance may not qualify you based on BMI? I am 5'3 and don't think I would have done this at 200lbs UNLESS I had serious medical conditions associated with the weight. Many bariatric offices offer medical weight management programs (special shakes and usually Phentermine) as alternatives to surgery. Schedule a consult! I can quit whenever I want cold turkey. Like, I will buy a pack, smoke it, not buy a pack for 4 or 5 months. Decide to buy another pack. That kind of thing. I'll go for a year without smoking or more. Then start again. I dunno. It's just a casual thing I occasionally enjoy, especially on long drives. I don't smoke when I am home... only in my car or out socially (which is rare). Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

A Side: No meditation today because it's trainer day at the gym and that is the total opposite of meditating! lol! But yoga on Saturday! B Side: I was told to avoid caffeine until I was able to get in at least 72oz of non-caffeinated fluid, and then I could have a cup or so a day. Just ensure I was hydrated well before I added in caffeine. I drink a few cups of hot tea during the work week now (6 months out). As long as I stay hydrated, I don't think it's a huge concern if I go a cup or two over. I don't drink caffeine on the weekends... but I need some tea to get me through the workday some days.

Breastfeeding right after surgery?
mousecat88 replied to MizzNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My concern would be a) the drastic hormonal changes that will occur after surgery may affect milk production and the large doses of vitamins you will be taking may not be good to pass onto your baby through breastmilk. I would ask your surgeon if those vitamin levels are safe. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Issues hitting protein goal, six weeks out.
mousecat88 replied to Ellf's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wasn't able to hit my protein goals until 4 months out because of limited food intake and the shakes make me sick. Don't stress if you aren't getting there just yet. You're only 6 weeks out! My surgeon said I can rely on the shakes (which I can't have sooooo) even up to a year if need be to get there. Chicken and fish still make me feel crappy. Turkey patties have 22g of protein and sit well with me. 1 cup of cottage cheese is also 23g of protein. That's a lot right there and cottage cheese is easy to get down. Greek yogurt has 8-12g of protein depending on the brand. Don't feel bad if you need to supplement with protein shakes at 6 weeks. I'm 6 months out and not supposed to be on all foods yet for another 3 months according to my diet plan (still limitations on complex carbs, rough veggies, and nuts). -
A Side: Does it count as crafting if I have to reconstruct my computer desk that my 18lb fatcat knocked down and broke apart yesterday? Because that's my plan for the day. lol. Cats.... B Side: This is tricky because this journey has helped me overcome a lot of my issues- self-esteem, confidence, motivation to get up and go... One thing it hasn't helped me with is working on maintaining a healthy relationship. I am perpetually attracted to people who need "fixing"; I've resolved to stay single until this journey (my goal weight anyways) is complete, and probably much longer than that because I thrive when I am alone. Maybe some day I will explore dating again, but for now I am just doing me.

A Lotta Brachioplasty Questions
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
So, my bariatric office gave me a referral to a plastic surgeon on Monday. This surgeon is about 2.5 hours away, though. Given my history with complications (with regular surgery and previous cosmetic surgery) it makes me really nervous to go to someone so far. They said he deals with bariatric skin removal all the time, which is a plus. But I am considering just going to the guy who did my breast reduction since he is very close by and did an excellent job. In the event there was some kind of complication, I don't know how I would get to the other guy being so far away! I'm going to set up a consult with my guy in July and schedule this surgery out for November-ish. -
Hey all. I've had batwings my whole life, even as a 130lb teenager. When I hit 286, obviously they were much worse. I do not wear short sleeve shirts in public and haven't in years. I only just now started wearing tanktops because I now go to the gym. Now that I've lost 86lbs, they are even droopier. My arms are 17" around each (approximately). I have a very hard time finding sleeves that fit, especially since the rest of my torso is no longer plus-size. I still have 64 more pounds to my "weight goal". I am hoping to get there by the end of the year or so. I am HOPING I can have the brachioplasty in December or January at the latest. Few questions: 1) Did you have a drain? 2) How long did you need off work? 3) Subjective pain scale 1-10? I had a HUGE breast reduction with nipple graft and had zero pain, but I hear this is worse, even though both involve skin removal? 4) How long did you wait after reaching your goal to have this procedure? 5) How much did it cost total out of pocket? 6) Anything else you'd like to share! I am very excited for this and consider it my ultimate goal. 7) Will insurance pay if I am getting rashes? I do not have a large stomach that need a tuck, really, but I have the rash issue with my arms. Will the surgery tighten the bicep area, too? I have excess skin on my biceps AND triceps. The pic attached is me one day before surgery; you can see how large my arms are. They are even droopier now.

Six Month Post-Op Then and Now
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone. I feel a lot better, physically. I look forward to my trainer sessions each week. Had my six-month appointment and they were thrilled with the results so far and said I don't need to change a thing I am doing and they are confident I can get off this 46lbs by the end of November, which is my goal. Now that the complications have resolved, I feel a lot better and less regretful. It's nice to be able to compare these photos since you don't always notice the change yourself without really seeing the befores and afters. I can't wait to get to my goal weight because buying clothes is a hassle! I have no clue what size I wear any given day and I am still gravitating towards the plus section, even though my tops aren't plus anymore and my pants are a borderline 12. -
Just gotta announce that since 2017 I went from a 48H to a 46D (breast reduction) and now 5 months post-op I am a 42C. I HAVE NOT BEEN A C CUP SINCE I WAS 11 YEARS OLD. IT IS AMAZING. BACK PAIN IS ASSUREDLY GONE FOREVER! I wanted a B cup with the reduction but apparently you don't get to choose like you do with implants, which is totally not cool. I hope they get even smaller! I had SO much pain as an H cup, I would not mind to have zero boobies. I can't wait for the band size to shrink even more - probably already need a 40. no bra nation.

Today is my 6 month "surgiversary". I guess I am officially a sophomore. HW: 286, CW: 190, GW: 140. 96lbs down in 6 months, 50 more to go. My goal is to lose 7-10lbs in May to keep on track with hitting my goal weight by end of November (13 mos post op). Also going to try to exercise one additional day per week. I told everyone in the world I was having surgery. Like even people who didn't notice I found a way to sneak it into a conversation. That got all of the questions out of the way pre-op and no one says a thing to me anymore except complimentary things about how much weight I am losing. It was just easier to let everyone know that I couldn't eat XYZ anymore than have people ask me until the end of time what diet I was on or what my secret was or why I wasn't having any bread or whatever. Plus, I think my experiences have encouraged others around me to diet and exercise more, etc, and even consider WLS themselves.

A girl in my FB group has bypass and is vegetarian. She eats dairy and eggs, though. Vegans can also have the surgery, but they rely on beans and soy product a lot. They sell separate supplements with amino acids in them for vegans/vegetarians. I get the vast majority of my protein from dairy (cottage cheese).

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??

WLS is a tool. Just like OA. Seemed very hypocritical. Why not take advantage of EVERYTHING available to you if it works? Whateva. lol.
