How does your body know when to stop losing?
mousecat88 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost 50-60lbs those first two months, then had an 8 week stall, and have consistently lost 10lbs per month since then. I am seven months out and it seems like this month weight loss has sped up a bit. I have lost 7lbs in 2 weeks. This is not me complaining at all, lol. Does your body just *know* when it is at an equilibrium? If you keep doing the same thing, will you just keep losing and end up looking sickly? I eat roughly 700cals a day and about 40g carbs. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less. I did stop tracking because I literally eat pretty much identical meals every single day. Yogurt, a protein snack, turkey meatballs and cauli tots with salsa, another protein snack or maybe some berries, and then cottage cheese or a turkey patty for dinner during the week. Occasional diet icecream bar. On the weekends I inadvertently eat less, or will eat out and get a salad with a protein in it. And I plan on exercising vigorously a minimum of 4 days per week indefinitely. -

My dietitian did say around 12 months I should be at 1000-1200 calories and 110g of carbs a day. I am already 7 months and soooo far from that. Seems impossible! lol. But, 5 months is still a long time in this "world". Also, thank you! -

That was my "concern". Maybe concern isn't the right word. Given my exercise and current caloric intake, I am consistently at a large deficit in calories daily. I imagine I wouldn't continue to lose weight to the point of looking anorexic and that maybe it would stop eventually. I don't foresee me adding in TOO many more calories by the time I hit 12 months out. There's only so much I can fit in me comfortably. Given that I stick to low carb foods, they are all pretty much low calorie, as well. Maybe eventually I will add in more carbs when I am comfortable with doing so. -
Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??
mousecat88 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Has anyone here ever attended an Overeaters Anonymous meeting? Right after surgery I contacted the local chapter to talk to them about my reservations about the whole "higher power"/religious aspect of OA (I am nonreligious), and the host assured me it wasn't about religion. (The AA meetings I had gone to with a friend, they read from the Bible and prayed). Anyways, she went on to talk about how she became a food addict after SEVERE physical and sexual abuse by her family, and then I felt kinda like "my problems aren't nearly as bad as these people, so I don't think it's right for me to attend". I then mentioned I had WLS and she was kinda' iffy about it - gave me the impression she felt like I took an easy way out instead of working with OA and dieting, etc. I don't know... Anyways, I am 6 months out now and the feelings of just wanting to nibble all day are coming back. I also have been eating super fast again and I vomit a lot. I don't eat the wrong foods, or too much foods, just too quickly. And I am seriously battling snacking all day, which I haven't. OA is free and in the evenings, and I can't afford therapy or the time off work to go to it, so I am sort of thinking of going to OA. I just don't know if I will be ironically rejected for "cheating" by having WLS or being a bit thinner now. Anyone familiar with this group???? I have pretty bad anxiety and I am really nervous about the idea. -

Caulitots are amazinngggg. I probably eat them too often. lol. They are sold in the freezer section; Green Giant makes them. I eat them with queso or salsa or ranch or ketchup. The possibilities are endless. lol. They are like the only cauliflower thing that is a legitimately good substitute for potato, imo. -

Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was actually feeling "snacky" during the day. Like I just wanted to mindlessly eat. I was getting nervous I'd fall back into the same habits, and also consistently eat too much at one sitting. But it appears it was just a phase, because I am back to sticking to my 5 small meals a day plan without an issue. I'm doing well again! -
Overeaters Anonymous - Should I go??
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The people in that OA group made me so pissed off I kinda' want to go back just to be like check out all the weight I've lost FROM MY WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY, YOU JUDGMENTAL A-HOLES. Unfortunately my surgeon's office doesn't have a "true" support group. They meet once a month and just have speakers come in. No one actually talks. I've mentally moved past the idea of needing a support group. I have you guys to rant to, if need be. LOL -
Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
mousecat88 replied to Zemi's topic in The Gals' Room
Complications can happen to anyone. Don't let a surgeon saying "oh, you're young and healthy you'll be fine!" convince you otherwise. I was 29 with no comorbidities and had 3 complications post-op (gallbladder, hernia, ulcer). Just be prepared for whatever comes. You will conquer it. I also wish they talked more about the hair loss. I've lost about 40-50% of my hair. Started at 3 weeks and hasn't stopped since. I *think* it is slowing down? I also exploded with badddd acne. Lasted about 5 months. Is clearing up well now. Also, don't try to use baby food as a substitute for pureeing adult food. BARF. Also I concur with the other poster about constipation. I didn't go for 17 days! Went to the ER and there was no impaction or blockage. Super bizarre. But I have to take Colace and Mag Citrate daily to have any BMs. I also have now developed an obsession with cottage cheese. Which is cool because it's great post-op and high in protein. But SO WEIRD that my fixation went from carby carbs to this random food choice. Whey never made me nauseous pre-op, but post-op whey isolate anything makes my stomach hurt so bad. Hunting good soy options in the beginning was tough, but they are out there. Now I eat some snacks with whey in them.. and just suffer quietly. lol. No one told me whey ISOLATES could hurt. -
figuring out an ultimate goal
mousecat88 replied to Johnny B's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I chose 140 because I remember what I looked like at 140 and I loved it. It's the high-end of the BMI chart for my height (and over on some BMI charts... I have no clue why they vary).... but I don't care. I liked the way I looked then and felt good. If I go lower, then okay. If I am a little over, then okay. 140 is when I was in the midst of my "omg I am sooooo fat" angst, so I want to get there and be like HELL YEAH I AM 140 NOW and appreciate what I had before. -
gum chewing after vertical sleeve surgery
mousecat88 replied to Gurtheen Mcgee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the risk of SWALLOWING the gum that they are concerned with. My surgeon said it is indigestible and can also get stuck. -
How often do you have Post-Op appointments?
mousecat88 replied to apiane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, and a 12 month in November. Then either annual or maybe an 18 month? Unsure. But I saw them a LOT in the first 3 months from complications. -
What's Your Fave BP Store Foods?
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I like the BP stuff because I can just dump it all in my desk drawer and have them for my 10am and 2pm snack each day. No prep required... or walk to the fridge. lol. Jerky is super expensive and there's no variety around here, especially chicken jerky, so I really like the Simply Snackin' sticks. -
Allowing for occasional treats
mousecat88 replied to chuckwalsh's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 7 months and haven't really craved anything. I did buy the diet ice cream bars that have like 11g of carbs max in them. I am not a sweets person though; I am a carbs person. BUT, I have so thoroughly ingrained in my head that if I dare eat refined sugars or white flours or too many carbs, I will experience dumping (which I did once right out of surgery... could NOT tolerate condensed soup) and I never, ever want to feel that again. I eat pretty much the same food every single day and that works for me, personally. I don't feel deprived. Food is fuel, not for enjoyment anymore. -
I am PRAYING my plastic surgeon lets me do my tummy and arms at the same time. Not sure if he will allow it. I have a consult in August. My arms are definitely the priority, though.
-
Are you considering any plastics? A lift? I am so psyched to have my cosmetic stuff done. I feel this way about my arms. I can't bear to see them in the mirror.

WAIT WHAT NO CALORIE SALAD DRESSING!
mousecat88 replied to michellehill's topic in Food and Nutrition
Didn't read all the comments but I think the Walden dressings are DISGUSTTTINNNNGGGG AHHHHHH. I just use lite Italian or herb ranch. The calories/carbs/etc are negligible in the grand scheme of things. -
Okay, few things... I was on Xanax for 15 years (6mg a day) and I was able to just stop and start - no withdrawals symptoms. Some years I was on XR, some the instant release. Do you actually experience dangerous withdrawal symptoms or do you just think you will? Or do you just have increased anxiety? I was switched to Valium because it lasts longer. I now take 30mg of valium a day (in 3 doses). I take as needed, however, so rarely 3 a day (typically one at night). They are small, like Xanax. Rather than going down in dose since surgery, I have needed an increased dose. I was only at 10mg a day, but another anxiety medication I was taking, Tenex, was causing me to blackout when standing so they had to stop me on that. I did have very severe rebound anxiety after the removal of the Tenex, which is when they increased the Valium. Pill size only mattered if they were giant horse pills. I had to crush my Potassium pill for a month. I was also on Ambien CR (the extended release). They told me to switch to instant after surgery, which doesn't help as much, but I did. HOWEVER, I have run out on occasion of the instant release and take a leftover extended release pill and it still works just as effectively. Every body is different, but the extended release may still work exactly the same for you, like the Ambien CR did for me. Can you switch to the instant release Xanax if you are concerned about it? Or switch to Valium because it is longer-acting than Xanax. I don't think there is any shame on being on a benzodiazepine the rest of your life if it helps. I intend to be on either Xanax or Valium forever BECAUSE IT WORKS. No interest in not taking it and no shame in needing it.

My mother was not supportive. She was vehemently against it, actually. She said I could lose it with diet and exercise "if I really tried" and I was mutilating my body. She said that when I am older the vitamins may not be enough and I could have nutritional deficiencies, etc. And, of course, all the possible complications. She reminded me in the weeks pre-op how stupid I was for doing this to myself. And even now, 7 months later, the most she can say is "I'm happy you're happy but I don't support this." Screw it. You're not doing it for her. Who cares what she has to think. As long as she will watch your kids, that's all you need to worry about.

My hair loss started 3 weeks out from surgery and now I am almost 7 months and it has not stopped or slowed down at all. I have extremely thin hair now.

a sickening look at my eating disorder
mousecat88 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
these popped up in my fb memories today. i used to binge eat/overeat. i had decided to use MFP to help me curb how much i ate, but instead i used it as a competition tool to see how much i could fit in me. i was probably around 175 or so in 2012. the comments are mostly me joking about how my ads are all for diet pills now and my friends joking I'll be one of the feeder fetish chicks eventually. the last photo is from 2018 when i was 286lbs and considering bariatric surgery. spoiler alert: it wasn't my thyroid that caused my weight gain. why the eff did i do this to myself!? jesus. a sickening look at my eating disorder
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you! I had plenty of "food funerals" during my 16-day pre-op diet. While controversial, I don't regret it. Because I made a promise to myself to not have those foods ever again, and thus far I haven't. And, honestly, I don't miss them at all. Fortunately after surgery you physically CAN'T binge eat, which is the ultimate training tool. Not being hungry those first few months really helps. I think overtime people can fit more and more in if they really try, but I know 7 months out I couldn't. I would get so so so sick! And I don't want to sabotage myself. -
Second spinning class today! I got my cycling shoes, my BUTT PADS (which totally look like a diaper), suede gloves, and some weird towel that cools 20 degrees below room temp when wet. I AM READY. lol
