What fruit can you and can’t you eat?
mousecat88 replied to OzCaz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can only have berries in small quantities. I was told no banana or apple ever because they are so high in sugar. I just stick to 4 strawberries at a time or a few blueberries. I can also tolerate one kiwi. I had a few bites of watermelon once. I was also told no citrus fruits ever again. Not even going to try anything else ever. -
How to choose a realistic goal weight
mousecat88 replied to ValerieInMexico's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My goal weight is the weight I knew I looked good at. It just happens to be at the very top of the normal BMI range (and depending on WHICH chart you happen to look at, 140 is actually a bit over into overweight on some). That is the last weight I recall ever once feeling OK with how I looked, if even for a brief moment in my long history of low self esteem. Not even looking at the BMI chart. If I go lower than 140, fine, whatever. If you want to go by any kind of chart, I would find out what a healthy fat percentage is, rather than a healthy BMI. That matters way more than the stupid BMI charts, imo. I would say anywhere from 25%-30% body fat seems to be considered average. The first surgeon I saw said I *would* get to 125. I KNOW I would look sickly at 125. Like, for real. lol. Any smaller than 135 and I look like a bobblehead. The surgeon I went with expected me to get to 160, and 140 with exercise. I am sticking with that since that's where I *want* to be anyways. -
Oh yeah, just noticed that. lol, sorry. I had essentially no pain. I think it's like a rare phenomenon for anyone to have pain unless something went wrong. I mean we are all different, I suppose, but I feel confident in saying that the majority of people on here didn't experience much pain at all. It was like... they didn't even do anything to me.

I don't know what surgery you're having but I think pretty much everyone on here will testify that the only post-op pain they had was gas pain, which isn't helped with pain meds anyways. I didn't have any pain at all. The only time I got pain meds was RIGHT after surgery in the recovery room and they gave me a bit of fentanyl, but the rest of the time in the hospital I just got IV Tylenol and maybe like 3 5mg Percocet that first day in the hospital. That's it.

I have a friend on Facebook who is morbidly obese and her two children are very, very heavy. I always feel very sad when I see their photos, although they seem like happy kids. She is always yo-yo keto dieting. I was never heavy as a child and fed healthy meals, so it was my own stupid adult-self that made me obese. I live in the first or second highest-rate State for obesity amongst adults and children and EVERYBODY is extremely heavy. There is so much focus on the opioid epidemic in this State, but absolutely NO focus on the much larger issue of the obesity epidemic. It is heart-wrenching.

My dietitian said they won't give any macro advice until 12 months out, and just be concerned with meeting protein goals. BUT, I did weasel out information from her because I told her my trainer wanted that information. This was at about 5 months out. She said since I was working out seriously hardcore, I should be getting 1000 calories a day, 90g of protein, and 100g of carbs. That is usually the standard at 12 months, she said, but because of my workouts I should get that now. BUT, in reality, at 8.5 months out I eat 600-700 calories, 100g of protein, and well under 50g of carbs per day and I am doing just fine. NO WAY could I shove in 1000 calories a day.

International Cross-Country Hiking - Diet Issues

unf. Yeah, I think this will be the same scenario. We have 11 hour hikes some days so I hope it is enough. -
International Cross-Country Hiking - Diet Issues
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
We are only allowed to bring camelbacks with our drinking supply of water in it - there's weight limits for our packs. No showers or water or anything; we are told to bring wet wipes to bathe ourselves for 5 days. I'm going to bring some powder. Just not sure if it'll be enough to sustain me. I think I'm just going to go for it and if I am hungry, I am hungry. LOL. It's not like I eat *that* much anyways. I don't think I can bring meal packets because there's no microwave? -

But I can eat steak just fine? I have no idea anymore. I just roll with it at this point, lol. -
International Cross-Country Hiking - Diet Issues
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I don't know... no matter how small of a bites I take or how much I chew it, I start sweating and shaking and get really nauseous. But if it's all goo'd up with some kind of sauce I can tolerate, I am fine. Bizzaro. -
Why did your surgeon opt for sleeve instead of bypass if you have such bad reflux issues?

International Cross-Country Hiking - Diet Issues

I can eat chicken jerky, just not chicken breast. UNLESS it is smothereddd in low-sugar ketchup. Same with turkey patties. Must be smothered in ketchup. I reached out to the company to see what they think. -
You can do it! I would recommend following the "actual" pouch reset diet. I'm doing a modified one. https://www.livestrong.com/article/430673-how-to-complete-five-day-bariatric-diet/

Home scale vs dr scale
mousecat88 replied to PudgeBeGone's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The doctor's scale is probably more accurate... the one at my doctor's office costs thousands of dollars because it runs all kinds of metrics. Mine claims to, but it was $29.99 off Amazon sooooo. But anyways I go with whichever is lower. LOL. -
124lbs 8.5 months out.

Pretty much! I am hitting 98-105g of protein eating this. Not bothering tracking carbs because I know there's virtually none in all of those things.
-
=p I have a soy protein isolate shake for breakfast, a light and fit greek yogurt for a snack (if I need one), a hard boiled egg for lunch, a soy protein isolate shake for afternoon snack, and cottage cheese/hardboiled egg for dinner. I randomly munch on cherry tomatoes/blueberries too occasionally.

Awesomely. I lost a little over 5lbs last week and felt amazing. I am essentially sticking to my modified diet indefinitely. I am actually getting MORE protein now than I did before because I brought back the dreaded protein shakes (which actually taste fine, lol). I still enjoy a "regular" bariatric diet on the weekends, but for the most part I am sticking to this new thing I have going on during the work week. I definitely feel full so much quicker - even cottage cheese is difficult to eat at a full 8oz like I was before.

I had my gallbladder out in January. No exercise for two weeks, and then just avoid any core work for another 2-3 weeks. PS I feel your pain. I go to the gym 6 days a week and I'm having plastics in November and won't be able to go for a monthhhh. NOOOOOOOOO
-
I had three complications - a marginal ulcer formed one week out and I was on medicine for 12 weeks to heal it. Then my gallbladder went to hell 2 months out and they also found a hernia while they were in there. It happens. It's generally not a big deal and all 3 of the issues were resolved with time. Nothing that couldn't be fixed. Just be aware of how you feel and speak up if anything feels off. Definitely wouldn't change my mind had I known I would have gotten those complications.

I had my Gastric Bypass reversed 😞
mousecat88 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
May I ask what about the bypass can cause the obstructions/necrosis? Why is it a higher risk than the gen pop? I am so happy they caught it in time and you had a successful surgery! Best of luck in your continued recovery! -
Your stall story
mousecat88 replied to stilljustafatguy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I didn't have the "3 week stall" that people talk about. I stalled at the beginning of month 3 and it lasted for 8 weeks. Didn't lose a single pound. I honestly didn't do anything different to get it started again, it just started dropping again by itself. Very bizarre and frustrating. lol. -
too real. ;(
