I’m excited about my grocery store find yesterday. First off, I live alone and left overs tend to get thrown away. Cooking for 1 sucks. I was walking around Kroger yesterday and decided to check out the fresh seafood selection (even though I’m still on liquids). They have the perfect thing for me! They have shrimp skewers with 5 medium shrimp for $1 per skewer. This will be perfect for when I am able to advance my diet to regular foods. In fact 1 skewer will probably get me a couple meals.

February 2019 weight loss buds

I checked in and was taken back to pre op in a few minutes. I was weighed. I had to put on the super stylish gown and no slip socks and give a urine sample (pregnancy test). I was given a package of chlorhexadine wipes to wipe off my body (infection is BAD). The nurse came in and started putting my info in the system and asking basic questions. She started an iv and took vital signs. She also premedicated me with Tylenol, neurontin (for nerve pain), Celebrex (anti inflammatory), and scopolamine patch (nausea). I was then taken to the next area to wait my turn. The surgeon came and saw me and got consent. Then the anesthesiologist came and saw me and got my health background. Finally they were ready and I kissed my mom and they rolled me down the hall. Made a stop at the bathroom (because no catheter was needed). I got back on the bed and the anesthesiologist gave versed (anti anxiety that has amnesia effect) as we rolled down the hall. I don’t remember even making it to the OR. -

Yours is so much prettier than mine! -
I don’t understand why people are being told no caffeine ever. What is the reason? My team allows caffeine after 2 months. At that point you should be able to drink plenty of fluids to counter the diuretic effect and the incisions should be healed enough to not have irritation. My team said best to avoid carbonation because it will cause bloating ( won’t stretch your pouch) and can be uncomfortable. But they said you can pour it in a glass of ice and let it set for a while and let the bubbles dissipate.

Horrible experience with hospital

I agree w KimTriesRNY, ask for what you want. If you are just laying in bed thinking that someone needs to come walk you then you can push the call button and ask for help. You don’t want ice water? Then say “no ice, please” when they take your pitcher to refill. I walked around with my mom but really only needed her to take the squeezey things off my legs. If you have a reason for wanting a nurse to walk with you then just ask them. I would take my water pitcher with me when when I walked to refill it since I would go through the whole thing. Nurses are there to assist you to do things on your own. (Unless you require more help for safety) -

I didn’t do a diet before surgery other than the 2 week liquid pre op diet. I lost 16 pounds during that 2 weeks -

Are there any comfort foods that can be modified to fit your diet? Like air fried chicken and loaded mashed cauliflower? Tacos in lettuce leafs? I’m sorry I know those are lame suggestions that you probably already know. I went through a lot of stress a couple years ago. I swear I was going to throat punch the next person who told me “God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.” Wish I could say something to help.

I have a notebook where I plan my protein and fluid intake for the next day. I make my plan at night and check it off as I go during the day. -

Oh I have zero issues with drinking or nausea. I’m just someone who has always been chronically dehydrated. I just don’t drink like I should. I am working on it. I need about 10 more ounces today to make my goal. -

I cannot believe how well I’m doing. I’m 1 week post op. Was never given any opiates and never needed them. I used neurontin and Tylenol for pain on the day of and day after surgery. I’m honestly shocked because things normally don’t go easy for me in anything. I still don’t feel hunger. I do struggle w getting fluids in because I wasn’t a drinker before. I have been getting in the minimum for this stage but need to work harder on this. I know you must so getting so excited!!! I do recommend having someone stay the whole night w you in the hospital. I know this seems obvious but some people send their family home because they think that they are just going to sleep all night. I was up constantly to pee, even though I was severely dehydrated. Dehydrated as in I’ve been a nurse for 20 years and have only seen urine that dark on dialysis patients. Every time you get up someone has to remove the squeezers on your legs and unplug the iv machine, trust me you cannot do it yourself. I would’ve hated calling the nurse every time I got up. I’m so excited for everyone! I know some have been having pain issues and I so hope it clears up for them soon. And I must say, my mood is improved. I’m just happier now. But that could be that I’m not at work 😁 -

What is best Protein Powder to add to soups ?
ldawn replied to texasnewf's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I agree w the Genepro suggestion. I have been putting it in tomato and broccoli cheese soup as well as pudding. Can’t taste it at all. When I put it in soup I put 1 scoop into a half cup of soup for 30 gm of protein. You can get it at GNC if you need it quicker than ordering online. -

Welcome! You will probably find a couple surgery buddies scheduled the same day as you. What is your pre op diet and when does it start? -
RNY on 2/5, went home early on 2/6. Haven’t taken pain meds since 2/6. I have no pain and no nausea. I want to ask if I could be causing an issue. When my surgeon’s office called on Friday to check on me she kept asking if I was gulping water. I’m not taking gulps but I have been taking small sips in a row which probably equals a gulp. I haven’t had any issues from this. I think I have been very fortunate so far. I’m not having any hunger or head hunger yet (I know it will come eventually). Just want to make sure I’m not causing any pouch damage I’m not aware of.

Hey surgery buddy! Wow I’m so sorry things didn’t go quite so smoothly for you. I so glad you are back home. I wish you immense success from here on out!

I had surgery on 2/5. Minimal gas pain in left shoulder. Stopped pain meds on 2/6. Occasional stinging feeling to 1 particular incision, but it’s rare. I think I’m doing fabulous. I can drink fine, no restriction so far (but it’s just liquids and pudding I know this will change with soft and regular foods.) I feel amazing. I just went to Kroger and got some soup from their deli. I got creamy tomato and broccoli cheese. The tomato was the most amazing thing I have had in weeks. I strained it and added 1 scoop of protein powder. I ate a half a cup. Can’t begin to explain how amazing it was. -

Nurse practitioner here. Get the children’s Tylenol. Take 20ml (4 teaspoons) and that will equal 2 regular strength Tylenol tabs. -

I have chewable bariatric advantage multi and chewable calcium. My iron isn’t chewable and my b12 is a liquid. No one said I had to crush my pills. They aren’t huge but there are 5 of them. I should get to come off of some in the next couple months -
