    Onederland!!!! Finally
  3. I’m not an ice cream fan. I have to be in the mood. I still have almost a full box of popsicles I bought for right after surgery (early February). Think I just ate a few grape and cherry. I’ve also never been a fudgsicle fan at all whatsoever. Until I had the no sugar added ones after surgery. I love them.

My best friend turned 40 recently. We celebrated with a trip to Fogo de Chau, a Brazilian steak house where they bring out all the meats on skewers and slice them onto your plate. I love this place! I had to be very selective on what I ate. My favorite thing there is the Parmesan crusted pork medallions. To die for!! The place is $50 a person but if you bring proof of bariatric surgery it’s half off. Still ate no where near $25 worth of food but I didn’t care one bit. It was amazing! Nice to still be able to enjoy things like this. I just don’t leave feeling miserably overstuffed anymore.

I love it when I eat steak! About once a month I go to Texas Roadhouse w my mom. I get a 6 oz sirloin and it is 2 full meals for me. I tend to eat a lot of chicken so the steak is such a pleasant change. The grocery store had a sale on pork chops this week. They are the really thin, boneless minute chops. It was like $1.90 for a package w 6 chops. They are so thin and small I will likely be able to eat a whole one. I haven’t tried pork chops since surgery, hope I do ok with them. I just went on a cruise and did really well with the food. There was 1 night where I ate 1 bite too many. I was eating too fast and didn’t realize I was full. Some old habits I have to work to keep in check, and eating fast is the hardest. I did indulge some. I ate at guy’s burgers (carnival cruise ship restaurant) and would eat half a burger sometimes removing the top bun. I had a little pizza one day. If I tried a dessert I would usually have a bite or 2 and be done (sweets don’t have a hold on me anymore). I even had a soda (I let it sit for a while to get rid of some bubbles). I came home and had lost 5 pounds. I know sometimes it’s scary that our diet is advancing and we can tolerate more volume and more variety of foods, but we are all putting in the work on our issues and are learning to be aware of our bodies and what we put in them. We will all do well as long as we trust the process and embrace our new habits. I’m a slower loser. Could very well be my PCOS that is fighting me on weight loss but I’m going to keep going and will get there.
  6. It is amazing how different everyone’s pain experience is. I firmly believe surgeon skill is a huge factor in this and of course premedicating and medicating appropriately during surgery (anesthesiologist). I just hope everyone’s pain was treated quickly and relieved. I was fortunate to have zero pain after my bypass. I was never given opioids and stopped all the Tylenol and neurontin the next day. I see all the people put on morphine pumps for these surgeries and thank my lucky stars.

This surgery is more about relearning how to eat, learning what full feels like, and fixing our emotional issues as opposed to never being allowed to eat these 5000 foods ever again because you had fat surgery. You had a couple things over a special weekend. As long as you don’t eat them often then it’s fine. I see nothing wrong with a 90/10 approach. Eating healthy 90% of the time w 10% of indulgences. No cheat days just a cheat snack or cheat entree or cheat side dish once or twice a week max. If you find a food that triggers massive cravings I would avoid that, but don’t beat yourself up over this. I find myself craving crunchy thing now. My dietician thinks it’s related to the long stretch of just liquid and soft foods. She recommended skinny pop popcorn instead of chips. Not as crunchy as I want but it satisfies the craving.

I’m about to make a hair mask with coconut oil and Jamaican castor oil. Supposed to help w regrowth. I starting losing a lot of hair at 3.5 months. It’s noticeably thinner (to me at least) so I’m having it cut short tomorrow

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I feel great. My hair is thin and very fine. My ponytail is now noticeably thinner. I started losing hair at 3.5 months out. I have read it stops after about 2 months but I know it can go on much longer. I’m going to schedule an appt w my hair stylist this week. I don’t have really long hair but I figure the more weight I can take off it the better.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey everyone! My gastric bypass was on 2/5. I had a rough month in May for weight loss. I guess my body just needed some time to adjust. Weight is coming off again, thank goodness. My hair loss is astounding. Hope it stops soon. I have gone from 268 the day I started my pre op liquid diet to 207. I will be half way to my goal in 5 more pounds!! I have gone from an “extremely obese” BMI of almost 48 to now just “obese” at 37. I’m getting to where I want to be. I’m not one of the fast losers but that is ok. Picture is this morning and October 2017 where I was around 250 lbs (5’3”).

I just bought the GNC bariatric line of soft chews also. I have the multivitamin and calcium. They smell amazing! They dont taste nearly as good as they smell, but tolerable. When I run out I will switch to patches.

I didn’t notice until now, but I have gone from extremely obese to just plain ol’ obese!!!
  13. I’m just sharing info in case there are people who aren’t aware of this option. I know some people get very bad GERD after the sleeve that can’t be controlled by medications. I was told the only other option would be to convert to bypass (which is why I ended up choosing RNY). Turns out another option is out there. I’m a nurse practitioner and went to a meeting last week that included dinner and an educational presentation. The presentation was done by both a GI doctor and bariatric surgeon. They were talking about the Lynx procedure. The simplest way I can explain it is to imagine a beaded bracelet that goes around the esophagus. It applies enough pressure to stop the regurg. Complication rates are low. The bariatric surgeon said he has had excellent results for his sleeve patients. He said right now the procedure is still off label for bariatric but the literature on it will be published later this year. Just something to think about or to ask your physician about if you are having GERD issues. If your physician wants more info he can contact a LYNX rep or I can share the name of the surgeon who presented.
  14. I wish I could tell you about insurance coverage but they only spoke on Texas insurance plans. It is designed for GERD so I imagine more insurances will be covering it.
  15. I don’t need an education on what off label means. They were saying off label for bariatrics. But feel free to to discuss with the 2 docs who presented.

    CHI Franciscan experiences

I’m sorry you are having this issue. I wish I could advise you of what to do but I have similar issues w my dr. His office would go days without returning my calls. I complained to the office manager and things got better. I used to work there when I lived in Auburn. But the dept I was isn’t related to bariatrics.

I had RNY on 2/5. I only had to take PPIs for 4 weeks. No issues since stopping it 4 weeks ago. Prior to surgery I took my pantoprazole daily and still had break through indigestion. I hope it gets better for you.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I haven’t participated in our group in a few weeks. I did some reading and definitely feel behind everyone in my weight loss (not surprised, just how things always work for me). I want to kick up my exercise routine! I joined the ymca this week. I’m planning on starting out w pool class on Wednesday’s and saturdays. Weights on Fridays and Sundays (and some cardio each day as well). I was just wondering what everyone else is doing and did it rev up your weight loss?

Anyone else that cannot get enough milk? I’ve never been a milk drinker but now I crave it intensely. I take my vitamins and calcium supplements like I’m supposed to. I feel like I need my own cow in the back yard.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

I was so sick last night. I vomited for hours. For lunch I had left over soup. I noticed as I was leaving work that I was very bloated. I figured it was my shortened bowel not liking the beans in the soup. For dinner I had left over chopped steak (from yesterday). I only had 2 bites. I started feeling bad quickly. Then the vomiting started. After a while just getting up thick saliva . Thought maybe I didn’t chew my food enough but on thinking about it, I chewed it thoroughly. I have no clue what pissed my stomach off, but it super sucked

My protocol was very similar. I got to choose between Gatorade, apple juice, and grape juice. Had to drink 32 ounces the night before and 15 ounces three hours prior to surgery. They said it was to help my body regulate blood sugar levels in the face of a “big trauma.”

I had no issues with the cheese stick. I chewed it up really well before swallowing. I did heat the beans w some shredded cheese. I love Wegman’s! They don’t have them in Texas so I don’t get to go there anymore, but down here H-E-B is pretty awesome. I’m not craving sweets either, which is odd for me. I do miss soda, but decaf iced tea makes me very happy.

I was advanced to soft foods earlier this week. Refried beans are amazing. Eggs are an absolute no. That was the very first time I have vomited. Tuna didn’t sit too well with my stomach, made me queasy. Will wait a couple weeks before trying that again. Cottage cheese was good for breakfast. Cheese stick and applesauce for snacks. Doing great on liquid intake. I’m going to do full measurements this weekend but so far I’ve lost an inch and a half from around my stomach at belly button level and 3 inches from where my natural waist is. I have a scale that connects to my phone but I always transfer my weight to my happy scale app. Happy scale takes your starting weight and goal weight and splits the difference into small goals. I met goal 2 today!!! I’m down 28 since starting the pre op diet
  24. I watched last night and was so frustrated with the patient. Nothing was her fault. I understand support is important, but ultimately you are responsible for what you shovel in your mouth. And she was abusive, can’t believe he stayed with her as long as he did.
