Today is my 1 year Band-iversay. I am so happy. I have lost 50 pounds a gained 1 very large self esteem. I do not regret the surgery, the difficult liquid stage, the fills, or the learning to eat less and feel full. I look fantastic and feel even better. If you are struggling right now - hang in there and DO EXACTLY what you are told and it will work. If you try to cheat the system; you cheat yourself. You will be soooo glad you did. -
Just a follow up to my last posting. I just finished 2 miles straight without stopping. My ankle felt great, the breathing was good. Now, I have to say the people driving past me probably wondered if they should call 911! It wasn't fast and it sure wasn't pretty - but I did it. I also burned 490 calories. (I have to walk up a giant hill to get home too) Good luck to all of you - baby steps. Everyone told me it would come back to me. I didn't believe them, but it did.

A few of you may remember me. I was one of the orginal people on the thread and in the first group that started this program. Along with Kathybad, Renewedhope and several others. I had my lapband July 16 2008 and started at 200 pounds at 5 foot 2 inches tall. I started the couch to 5K like everyone else (I thought I would die!!!) I actually did ok for the first 4 weeks, but had to start doind each session for two weeks at a time. I stuck with it and my friends on this thread we invaluable. :smile2: Then I switched to my own music and kept progressing. Within a few short months I finished my 5k and could actually run 4 miles without stopping and with great pride. Unfortunately in March of 2009; I injured my ankle (fell off of my high heel) and had to have surgery. It is now July 2009 - I am 150 pounds, I work out with a trainer 3 times a week; and first the first time since March I ran again last night. It was only about 1/4 mile; but I did it and it felt so good. I am going to restart this program to get back to my 4 miles. I want to run a marathon some day. Stuck with it no matter waht; it will work if you work. kathy, it is so great that you are still lossing inches and you clothing fits loose (I feel a shopping trip coming on) I can't believe it has been 1 year. I saw a picture of me last year- I dont even look the same. I feel fabulous! I love my new job, my new health, and my new body. See everyone at the finish line.........

I had a great weekend. I didn't get to run yet, but I am walking withour the "walking boot" My mom helped me rearrange funiture, I brought some new patio furniture and I had the greatest pleasure of weighing in at 154!! My lowest so far. I really worked up a sweat today and I truly feel I will be running in a few short weeks. The best way to WANT to do something is to have someone tell you "you can't" Kathy; congrats on the family reunion. I bet you were smiling ear to ear. OK it is another new week ladies - lets all try to go the extra mile this week. Select your food wisely and exercise more than you did last week I am sooo happy; how about you?

I totally agree. Some days I can eat something and the next time I can't. Somedays I can only eat a cup of food at a time and other times I can eat more. Very strange. I get a little anxious when I have to eat in work settings - am I going to get through the meal or not. Of course by now my family is use to it. It is really an ongoing learning experience. I am soooo glad I have my band. It has really be a life saver! I look and feel better than I have in years. So for that I will tolerate the quirks. I weighted in at 155 today. All Time lowest weight with my band. Yeah me. Have a great weekend. -
OK my two legged runners. I am out of the cast and in a walking boot. When the took the cast off I was amazed at the degree of muscle atophy. My right leg looks like my left legs little sister. The hair on my leg was about a half inch long. The skin was flaking. All in all - Gross. I have been actually been walking today with a cane. The walkin boot isnt any smaller, but at least I can walk. 3 weeks for the walking boot. Guess what????? I lost weight. 155 pounds. That is my all time lap band lowest! Renewedhope. I havent exercised since March r/t ankle surgery. I am glad you are back in it, I look forward to runnin.

Are you hydrated? What have you eaten? Where are you with your protein? Was this the FIRST time exercising since your illnesses? May be too much too soon, huh??? slow and steady wins the race!!!!!! (I am so good at advise and so bad at taking it.

Special K You only gained 1 pound after vacation! That is great. I can gain 1 pound by the end of the day! Ice cream is my weakness too. I just can't have it around. Your mom and I would be camped out at the ice cream parlor. I still have problems ordering too much at restaurant also. I try to order small amounts but it is still too much. If I order a side salad with everyone else - I am too full for the protein. How are the rest of you managing the ordering part of this process? Another thing I am very cautious about -is when I have to eat with coworkers/boss and they don't know about the band. (new job- they only know me thin) It wasn't a big deal at first, but now they are starting to notice I do not eat much and that I usually order soup. Big panic- what if something would get stuck!!!!! My cast comes off Wednesday - can't wait. Have a great holiday weekend. Lynn -
2 days until my cast comes off!!!! A walking boot for 3 weeks I cant wait to walk again I am dreaming of running. Hey I think I lost some weight during this whole thing - I can't image how. It is hard to guess the weight with this cast on. But I did my measurements and I am down a few more inches overall. Yeah. I would love to reach goal by my banding anniversay; but I am so happy with where I am and proud of what I have achieved. enjoy the weekend. lly

Hello my two legged friends. I am finding the best way to get motivated to run is to have some tell you can't. With my leg in a cast; I have never wanted to run more. As I read your post, I can imagine and remember the feeling. My feet finding there beat, my breath syncing to my stride, my body cutting through the air, my heart alive and strong, my spirit turning off my head (the part that says- you cant do this- and my spirit- ignores it), my motivation comes from my music and sheer gut determination. As I lay with my leg propped up with nerve stingers shoot to my ankle; I read your stories and that I will run again soon and will use this time as a motivation. I remember the first time a "ran" it was probably for about 1 minute - I thought I would die from a heartattack or respiratory distress. - I pushed on and eventually was able to complete a 5K. I am not sure if I could have done it without the motivation from this thread. And for that I am forever gratefull. Thank you all for sharing your running trials and tribulations. You help me stay focused and egar to run again. Wel actually to walk again then run again. SusanG- the knee walker I use is rented from the internet website knee walker.com about 35.00 per week. worth every cent. As a hopsital adminstrator - the crutches were very limiting to my mobility. Altough I wil warn you; everyone will want to know about, giggle about it. I just offer then a ride and show then how I can do my ice skating move (extend my left arm foreward, left leg extend striagth back. Right arm on the handlebar, right knee on the seat ...and glide. My surgeon was especially impressed. OK friends, run today for me and then describe it to me. (you will get your run in, and I will get to experience it through you) Strong work ladies. Lynn

You look outstanding kathy. Good for you. I am just starting to go sleeveless too. You have nice arms. Mine are a little floppy.

Hello, my local buddies. I am checking in. I haven't been on lately, but it looks like there is alot to celebrate on this thread. WAY TO GO! Everyone is shrinking around here. I am doing pretty good, with a set back. (I had an ankle injury and had to have surgery) I am in a cast; not exercsining until mid June - that is a rough way to go for me. so I am depending on diet alone to reduce my weight. July will be my 1 year band-aversary! I would like to be 15 pound lighter by then. (I will loss at least 2 pound when the cast comes off) So I think I am going to start using the "myplate" website. I used it in the beginning and it really helped. Do any of you still use it? Well keep it up. PS. My last adjustment in Feb. has really held me at a good spot. I am glad to be a there. That helps so much. -
I feel like we are having a family reunion. I have miss all of you and it is my fault for not logging on. The ankle must be healing; it is itching like crazy. I have a beautiful black fiberglass cast from my toes to my knee!!!! I am getting lots of exercise on my left leg from lugging the right leg around. Renewedhope; it was ge to hear from you too. Don't worry about that stupid wagon - the nice thing about it -is it is on wheels and you can just push it off of you. I should be out of my cast by mid June - the first of July. I am signed up for a 5K walk in Sept. Although it is a charity "Walk", I though it would be good to get the distance in. I am no longer on crutches; I have a knee wheeler. If you haven't every seen one; itis worth the google. I get alot of stares. Nice thing about being 50 I don't care. It beats the crutches. georgia - Move it girl! You can do it. Kathy - size 12 - yeah for you. SIZE DOES MATTER! (oh, that is something else! sorry) Put down the dessert fork. the only thing I can control right now is my diet; cause I can't do cardio; So I think I will get back on myplate.com. I have gotten away from it, but it really did help. Are only of you on facebook? If you are add me to your friend list. ") OK, I am going to roll into the bathroom and spend the nest hour and half trying to take a bath and getting dressed by my self. DH has been as helpful as he can, but......... Well, you know. My hygiene routine should be on You Tube; it is so funny to see my sliver into the tub with my leg in the air. (OK, on second thought maybe not.) Happy Mother's Day - do something perfect for yourself today friends. Lynn

thanks Georgia. I went to see my doctor today. Hard cast for 3 more weeks no weight bearing. I chose "Black" for my cast color! Obviously I am benched for awhile. Keep running folks. Stay off your high heels!!

I'm baccccccck! Although I do not recognize many of your names; I do remember Georgia and Kathy. I love my new job! (2 Months) Still working out and lossing weight...... until my first week of my new job. I fell off my high heel and broke my ankle torn tendons!! I had surgery last week (yes, I walked on it for 6 weeks!) I am on crutches for 6 weeks. My question: It will be about 6 months in all by the time I am heal since the last time I ran. I know I will be starting all over, but do you know of anything I might be able to do to try to keep staminia up? I know the answer is probably... just rest and heal! Just wondering. weight: 157

I think this is a great idea. I will commit to 20 more pounds by July 4th. I am excited about my journey so far. I feel like a new improved me. I am almost where I want to be. This will be the "icing on the cake!!" (so to speak). I can not believe how far I have come in the past 8 months. I have control on my eating, exercising, attitude, confidence, and I have the job I have always wanted. As sad as it might be.. I know I would not have gotten this promotion without the weight loss. (sad; but true) My husband of 31 years has a new twinkle in his eye. (once again, sad, but true!!) I think self awareness and attitude has a great deal to do withit too. How are you all feeling about society and the new body image?

Kathy - thanks for remembering my new job. I started yesterday and I am thrilled. Of course it has only been two days- but I know it was the right move for me. Now to the exercise and diet section of my life. I am still getting up at 0400 in the morning to workout with my trainer. Lap band is just right. Great restriction. I am probably not eating enough calories. I have noticed major hair loss (not enough protein) Running - I am not running as much as I would like; but when I do run it is comfortable now and I look forward to warmer weather. I admire all of you longer distance folk.. Great job. If I run 1-4 miles I am happy with that. And I can't believe how easily I just said that. 6 months ago I would have been proud to run 1-4 minutes..... Can you believe there are over 100 pages on our thread. Off to bed. Hope all of those little virus and bugs go awys soon. lynn

Happy Valentines Day all you Lovers!!!!! I am so excited about my day. It is Saturday and my husband is in a Poker Tournement (which will last all day). I got to sleep in! When I woke up there was a note next to my bed with a large cup of Tim Horton's coffee and oatmeal awaking me; with a hand written Happy Valentines Day card. (Tim Horton's coffee is CRACK to me - I love it!) I am going to go pick up my DS and DH's birthday cake (non for me! Come home get a long run in and have the day to do whaever I want. I will have great food control, exercise, shopping, reading, napping! Oh glorious day!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kathy, I start my new job in 2 weeks; Everyone want to take me out to celebrate and there are going away parties and welcome aboard parties. I really do not want my new coworkers to know about my band. How did you handle all of the eating events when you started your new job. PS I am still up 4 pounds from my vacation. I plan to kick the cardio into high gear today. It is really the only way for me to loss. I had a band adjustment and feel it is in the perfect spot for right now. Lacey - My daughter's name is Lacey, she is 26!!! My son just turned 30! ouch! that hurt me. Anyway, I still love the name Lacey and as fate would have it; she is a children's clothing designer for Justice, just for girls. "Lacey is a perfect name for a clothing designer, don't you think? OK off to pick up a cake I wont eat!!! I can do it!

Hello Old friends and new friends. I am back from 3 weeks in St. Martin and 5 pounds heavier!! I am not to worried it will come back off. Back on the treadmill in the morning. Kathy -Good news. I got my new job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited. It was a long interview process but I did it. Boy has my life changed in the pasted 6 months. It stated with my lap band. I have completely re-invented myself. It has been hard work and worth every blister, uneaten bite of ice cream and every mile I have run. I am proud of myself and all of you. If someone is reading this and "considering" a lap band or starting a running program - do it!!!!!!! It will effect every aspect of your life.

Hello from sunny St. Martin! DH and I have been here one week and have two more glorious weeks in paradise. I have been a good girl and have been watching food intake. There is a gym in our condo complex - haven't made it there yet, but it is in the plan for the next two weeks. I have been drinking alcohol and was wondering if anyone know what would be the least in calories. Wine? Vodka, etc. I am not a drunk; but I do enjoy a drink by the pool each day. I would hate to be passing up all these great desserts only to be gaining weight in alcohol. No scales here either. Advise please. Kathy- I wont hear about the job until I get home from vacation:(.
