For some reason I have been craving peanut butter and I'm looking for lower calorie alternatives. So far I have found Peanut Butter Built Bars (protein/candy bars) at 170 calories and Julian Bakery ProGranola Peanut Butter Cluster at 110 calories for half a cup. Any other suggestions?

Does Food Still Bring You Joy? a newbie wants to know.
JessLess replied to MaybeMeow's topic in The Lounge
Yes! I just eat out of a much smaller bowl and quit the clean plate club. I've made a lot of substitutions, like sashimi instead of sushi and cauliflower instead of potatoes, low carb pasta, etc. but I count my calories and can still have the occasional treat. I'm just as happy with two tater tots as I used to be with a serving. The first couple bites are the best anyway. -
How did you pick your goal?
-
2 oz at a time. I was drinking water and protein water the next day. You might be reading thirsty as hungry.

@MSWDiet, your loss is amazing. I went from a 2x to a straight size 14 and am happy with that. I can't imagine wearing a 2/4.

My male friend started at 500 lbs. and lost 100 with the sleeve. He has a serious eating disorder he has tried to get help for for years. When he stopped losing at 400 he got a revision to the bypass and has lost another 100 lbs. He really needed something where he could not binge like he used to. I think you should do it for the GERD and it's likely you may lose more depending on your habits.

II have depression/GAD. I can't take SSRIs due to side effects. I take Nefazodone and did take Xanax XR. I had to switch from Xanax XR to regular and I have trouble staying asleep all night. Overall the transition has been fine and has not affected my weight. This is why I picked Nefazodone over the many more modern options. "Unlike the SSRI antidepressants, nefazodone associated with minimal weight gain and minimal sexual side effects." @NikkiOwl Buspar just made me sleepy.

Losing my hair! Anyone else, and what can help??
JessLess replied to IAmGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is somewhat hilarious but I thought none of my hair fell out. I thought it was because I ate a lot of protein and relatively, a higher number of calories. My hairdresser finally broke it to me that that’s when she told me I was so thin I should try short hair and cut my long hair into a bob. I never even noticed! So what you need is a good hairdresser who is cool and also a good liar. -
https://www.leafly.com has reviews. You can see what strains cause the munchies aka are good for chemo patients, for example, and what strains aren't.

It's really hard to lose the weight when you're stuck at home and don't use the calories you normally use running around all day. I've gained a few pounds. I do Pilates and run most every day. But I agree, the struggle can be very hard. If anyone is about to tell me to work on my food addiction, save it.

I found a study about it. Apparently some people have had success with it. It's called laparoscopic re-sleeve gastrectomy. I didn't quickly find anyone doing it. Can you talk to your original surgeon? Most people get the bypass for regain and I do know someone doing well with that. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4073220/

The restriction for people with the sleeve varies a lot. Some people have trouble eating, some never feel it. Some get full a lot faster, and it completely goes away for some people. So I think the sleeve is still there (no way to put stomach back) but the restriction isn't felt.

I HAVE. IT CAN BE DONE. I recommend therapy. It's really none of their business, and if you can't tell them to drop it or you're leaving the room, please get help!

If your "friends" can't be supportive, they are not your friends right now. Maybe in the future, but surrounding yourself with negativity will only bring you down.

Ugh, I fainted this morning on my way out of bed. This happens about every six months. I had low blood pressure 82/49 and my pulse was 64. I have half the symptoms of hypotension: dizziness, fainting, fatigue, and problems concentrating. From the studies I read Gastric Sleeve can cause low blood pressure and it's really not an issue UNLESS you have issues like fainting. My blood pressure has always been on the low side, but not this low. A normal pulse range is 60 to 100 beats per minute. If you're sedentary most of the day, like me during the pandemic, your RHR likely approaches or exceeds the top end of this range. Well, mine's at rock bottom. My PCP and surgeon both work in the hospital where they are treating COVID-19 patients and I am not comfortable going there. Fortunately, I can message either of them, which I'll do. OK, here's the question. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do? Did anything help?

My scale died yesterday after I got it wet. It's from 2014, so I'm fine with replacing it. Please suggest inexpensive U.S. scales that you like, Thanks!
-
Well, you’ve been so super-helpful but my old scale dried out, got new batteries, and is now limping along. I’m sure I will Ned one soon, so thanks!
-
Got it. That's what I had and that's what I got.
-
Yeah, that's what I meant. A body weight scale instead of a food or postal scale.

@ms.sss, I've been feeling a lot better. These were my doctor's notes from a telemedicine visit, which is remarkably similar to what my doctor friends told me. "Vasovagal syncope She reports a few syncopal events always in the morning when she was getting up out of bed. I suspect this is related to low blood pressure that is secondary to rapid weight loss and a lowering of blood pressure overall that her body has may be not adjusted to. I recommend she increase the salt in her diet. She is also check blood work to make sure she is not anemic already drinking plenty of fluids. I also recommend compression stockings to be put on in the morning. I recommend she get up very slowly from bed. If this persists despite the measures as discussed above I recommend she will need a cardiology visit with EKG and echocardiogram and potential Holter monitor."

With the sleeve. there are slider foods that you can eat quite a lot of because they don't sit in your sleeve. Ice cream, milk shakes, pie, cheese, get the idea? You will still get hungry, probably. It's like being on a diet for the rest of your life, I just fill up much more easily and try to avoid slider foods and sugar, so it's easier to stay on the diet.

Postop without narcotic pain meds
JessLess replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't feel like "I hope I have the chance to talk to him." Call the office and demand to talk to him if you have a concern. If this is part of the "Opioid Epidemic" there are other options. -
6 Month Diet Required by Insurance
JessLess replied to SlimmingItDown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the insurance company. I had NO requirement. I met my doctor and had surgery 2 months later. Others will accept things like Weight Watchers. I would ask your surgeon's office to check with your insurance. Most surgeons want to move you along as quickly as makes sense.
